Farren Ray

Please don't waste pick 33 on Farren Ray. 2 years ago we got Howe with pick 33. Surely we can find someone better than Ray at pick 33. Someone harder.

We won't.

pick 53 and 73 for ray?

With how Melbourne are trading I'd expect it to be more like 49 + 53

wont happen... unless we are planning on handing over pick 4 and today that would not surprise me.

He is the final player that we had earmarked at the start of trade period that we haven't got.

Let's see it happen!

One thing I keep thinking of with Ray, not sure if it has been mentioned on this thread yet (can't be bothered reading it all), Misson would know what Ray's work ethic and attitude toward training would be like...

For Pete's sake, I can't believe I'm that desperate, but just give them 49, 53 and 70 for Ray and be done with it. We don't have a recruiting manager and clearly were not interested in using any decent picks so just [censored] them off.

I'm happy to see the club trade in some experience and it's really good to see they've recruited some very good senior players as well but you can go too far and you have to have one eye on the future as well as the present. I would hate to see, say, Rodan getting a game ahead of a talented kid who may deserve a game but will miss out because of the desire to win a couple of games now.

I for one don't want to see the team full of "not great but ok senior players" from other clubs who know they won't be around for a flag and therefore will be playing for the money and maybe a bit of fun in the twilight of their careers.

I don't want to see us lurch from one thing to another, we can't replicate the Swans in one draft period..

It is hard Robbie, we have seen it done the opposite way and that doesnt work, but i think your right in suggesting we could go too far the other way.

I just hope as i bet you and others that we can get the mix right, bring in Viney, Pick 4 and maybe a Taggert ect along with the Dawes, Pedros, Byrnes ect to bring the mix right, and replace the Sellars and Bails or just put the pressure on for the in form players to get games.

Gotta get ray after today performance, would have happily kept Martin and gysbets over a lot of players still on the list!

You will find it very hard to trade someone with no value DD

Those two have some value so guess what they get traded.

It is like selling your house

The value is what some else will pay which way be way different to what you imagine.

If the best value you can get is pick 88 then that is the market value.

All over , Ray stays a Saint.

I wonder if we were serious. Reported as no MFC contact with Saints in last couple of weeks. Maybe they smell a chance of Jacobs in the PSD.

Tim Harrington said they put in a lot of work in this today and were close but not quite there.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
