Melbourne will play the 2013 season... haha sorry it's too early to tell without any excitement of new recruits....

I personally think 2013 will be another rough season - I hope to see longer periods of competitiveness though -

On a positive note I can't wait for J Viney to run out in the Red & Blue - & Mitch to be back at FF

I am expecting Shannon Byrnes, David Rodan and Q.Lynch to come in.

Expecting Rivers, Lucas Cook, Jordan Gysberts and Jamie Bennel to leave.

Fine with all of this, with more young picks coming in we can afford to rid ourselves of some failures, and with the Free Agent gets we have solid role players who the team needs until our kids develop.

Lets face it, Neeld cannot afford another season where our kids get destroyed every week.

Honestly right now I have absolutely no idea what direction we are taking...

Coming to club (best case scenario):

Hogan, Wellingham, Ray, Toumpas and Viney

leaving Club:

Would have expected 12 leaving but Im starting to suspect we cant replace with any better so may keep a few duds on the list.

Bate to doggies, Rivers and Moloney to Brisbane, Bail to Gold Coast, Martin to the Pies??

Rivers i think will go to Geelong?

Melbourne will want to keep Bail, he has a bright future ahead. Hopefully we can do a deal with pies for Wellingham

Right at this point it seems like "the road to nowhere" . 2012 has been insanely difficult to support . It's time to walk the walk. We need to land some fresh stock quickly. Just like Big Mitch I reckon we will land a big fish that hasn't t even been mentioned yet. Trade week will be bigger than FA for Neeldy.

We're going nowhere thats the answer! Free agency is going to kill our club. Why would anyone want to come to the Dees? Unfortunately I think most players wouldn't want to move here and I wouldn't blame them! Sorry to be so pessimistic!

Roos is right as is GAZ85. It is a sad day for football. Free agency will widen the gap between the haves and the have nots. Soon only a half dozen or so clubs will have the only realistic chance of winning premierships. Melbourne is not one of them. The English Premier League all over again. I pray I'm wrong.

Unfortunately I think youre correct with these concerns. The writing is on the wall and will be a hard process to reverse once it begins.

Those points are slightly fair. The salary cap itself makes it not like the premier league

If Melbourne sign Dawes it will be Templeton Mk 11 but worse because Dawes wasn't as good as Templeton. Obvious fatal error .. he will get in Clark's way and be a hindrance.

AFL needs to reduce the minimum player payments from 90% of salary cap to at least 75% to allow struggling clubs more bargaining power in free agencies. It is pathetic to think that players like Cam Bruce, Green, Davey, Moloney etc (no disrespect intended) have been paid the same or more than the likes of Bartell, Scarlett, Selwood etc.

But the fat controller doesnt have a clue so gap will keep getting bigger.

As much as that is ridiuclous (that Bartel can be paid the same as Moloney)

its the way it needs to be, because it can enable players to go to other clubs for more money

i think that we should take a good look at Clinton Young?

unrestricted agent. offer him some dolep, he would dominate in red and blue

To the posts above.

If we were still at the Junction Oval i would totally agree with you. But we are not.

We still have a chance to get off the canvas. Won't be easy, but we still have have a few bullets left.

The Draft is only 2 days old. Our $$$'s are still in neat piles.

Thank you for steadying the thread.

I grew depressed reading it haha.

Your right, the club is all cashed up, just need to land some big names and get some form.

not all is lost

It's not a silly suggestion, but disagree about dominating. He could contribute though by offering pace, outside run and a decent left foot. He would be finding it very difficult after a couple of absolute 'mares' in the GF, including not keeping his feet against Jack late and not being able to run it through for a behind. Coach killer stuff.

He is a very very good player.

regardlesss of his gf performance, would be top few at the dees

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
