WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - CAMERON PEDERSEN

Featured Replies

Great. We give up the player we took at 11, who everyone agrees has talent and is still young, for a 25 year old VFL player who can't get into North's side and wasn't even good enough to be drafted as an 18 year old. What do we put as Sellar's value, given he played most of the games this year, is taller and was quite handy for us in a number of positions. To me Pederson is about pick 50, similar to Sellar who went at 54 despite being a top 10 pick as a junior. Gysberts would have to be somewhere between 15 and 30 given he is contracted and has tons of upside.

Nailed it redlegs, was thinking this exact thing.

IMHO if we really do want Pederson maybe it by way of picking up a second rounder in another trade, maybe one where we have got a good deal. We want Pederson for a role - North dont budge.. We look it over the two trades. At the end of the day does it really matter if he was pick 30 compared to pick 45 ish if we have a specific role in mind.

But I agree would hate to give up Gysberts for him.

Picking up more second round picks genius idea , someone should start a thread ...

Neeld and co saw something that most didn't in Clark last year and if they see something in Pedersen this year, I'm willing to back it.

Hey, I was just spewing out a possibility! Not saying I'd be happy with it. I don't want Gysberts traded at all, for the record. I agree with your post.

No worries, I thought you were saying you were for it. Happy to look at Pedersen for the right price if FD think there is a role for him.

I just re-read my original post. It was poorly written. You and poita were right to call me out on it. I put it down to insanity caused by excessive waiting for the offseason.

I don't post much however some interesting information regarding Cameron Pederson. I have from a good source that we are heavily into both Chris Knights & Cameron Pederson. The information received for both players is that we have more available salary cap & preparedness to spend which is making the Dees attractive to this level of player. Not saying a deal will be done but I can assure you Melbourne has made enquiries and is trying to get these deals over the line.

Note: For those that ask for "the source" there is a link between these players.

So why don't we send Martin to Collingwood for their 2nd round pick, then send that 2nd round pick to Nth Melbourne for Pedersen???

That's probably a pretty fair trade. There's no way we would get a first round pick from Collingwood, but maybe we could get a player thrown in as well as the pick. But I reckon a 2nd round pick would be fair compensation for Martin anyways, particularly if it netted us Pedersen.

Collingwood won't trade their 2nd round pick - they'll need that for their F/S pick.

The article mentions his VFL form being very good, does anyone have any insight into how he was performing?

Bate is very good at VFL level, perhaps we could arrange a swap?

Or just pick him up when Norf delist him.

North have said Pedersen won't be traded and is contracted next year. Could make it difficult.

Of course they'd say that, it puts some value on him then. If they can't find a spot for him this year what's going to change next year?

If viney falls to our 2nd round selection it will be very hard to secure him

Unless we trade someone out for a pick...

Assuming we don't sign any free agents ourselves.

We give up the player we took at 11, ... Sellar who went at 54 despite being a top 10 pick as a junior. Gysberts would have to be somewhere between 15 and 30 .

Right, so Sellar went in the top 10 (well nearly anyway) and was traded for 54 and therefore Gysberts who went for 11 is worth 15-30.

Old, you chopped my post and changed the whole meaning. I repeat it below. I was trying to show that Gysberts is different to Sellar and that if Sellar who was taken as a top 5 pick and now went at 54 and is probably better than Pedersen , Pedersens value therefore is more like Sellar's than Gysberts'. In other words I value Gysberts far higher than the other two.

Gysberts is "worth" what someone is prepared to pay.

Gysberts is "worth" what someone is prepared to pay.

Or up to the point of compensation where we're prepared to sell him, rather than keep him.

No, he's worth what the market dictates. He's worth what the highest bidder will pay.

Every seller then has to make a decision if they'll accept what the market is telling them. They either sell, or retain.

Think you both are arguing over semantics. JM's point indicates someone wanting to sell, where you are coming from a more neutral position where someone might offer up something and the MFC has to assess the worth of the offer.

A player's value can erode. Sellar was pick 14 in 2006 and went for pick 54 in 2011. Gysberts was 11 in 2009 and has eroded since like Sellar's did. You've inadvertantlly made a compelling argument against your position.

You think so? How so. This is what I said " We give up the player we took at 11, who everyone agrees has talent and is still young......Gysberts would have to be somewhere between 15 and 30 given he is contracted and has tons of upside. "

Don't see anything that I said that makes a compelling argument against my position. My position is that Gysberts is far more valuable than Pedersen for the reasons quoted.

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
