Memo to MFC

Surely Dean Towers now at pick 20. He showed he is too good for VFL. Played and beat many AFL listed players in VFL. At 22yo, mature, runs and carries. Lock it in.

Mark Neeld must have his mobile number on speed dial.

Maybe have a look with a compo pick if we get one in the 20's dont think he will make it to the 30's

If we don't secure Dawes in a trade, then lock in Towers. If he is available at pick 20 we cannot let him get through.

Agree , if we keep pick 20, and Dean Towers is available... Shout him OUT.

This kid could be available in the 3rd round. Run and carry type mentioned in a few other posts. Beat Trent Croads standing vertical jump. A good Age 22.

If we took Grundy for instance this kid could be ready to go.

Merged this with existing Dean Towers thread......

I'm not very keen on this guy. I haven't seen him play and so can't really pass judgement on him but looking at the VFL stats he was named in Nth ballarats best only once during the entire season and that was 5th best. That doesn't sound too convincing to me!

Dean Towers

Kevin Sheehan says: “Medium midfielder who was a member of the VFL State squad this year . Is a player who can break the lines with his speed and agility in traffic and is strong overhead . Mature aged player having a consistent year in VFL.”

Wasn't that the talk from McClardy at a meeting mid-year with 50 invited members to communicate to the supporters that the crap that was coming from the media was unsubstatiated? There was talk of software purchased/set up to search the country for mature age players who can break lines, or something along those lines. I got the impression from McLardy's comments that the club was playing "moneyball" to source players unoticed on the fringes that had good "indicators" in the midfield.

If he can break lines, than surely the club is aware of him.

I was a big fan of Towers in 2012 and was disappointed that we could not get him onboard.

I think the Dees should try to grab Dean Towers now.  He has been squeezed out from Sydneys best 22. Yet everytime I see him play, his pace and ballwinning is a standout. Very good overhead mark. I think he would compliment our hard inside mids.

Offer a 3 year deal and he might be a prize.  Swans will have some serious salary cap pressure.

  • REPORT: Richmond

The fans who turned up to the MCG for Melbourne’s Anzac Day Eve clash against Richmond would have been disappointed if they turned up to see a great spectacle. As much as this was a night for the 71,635 in attendance to commemorate heroes of the nation’s past wars, it was also a time for the Melbourne Football Club to consolidate upon its first win after a horrific start to the 2025 season. On this basis, despite the fact that it was an uninspiring and dour struggle for most of its 100 minutes, the night will be one for the fans to remember. They certainly got value out of the pre match activity honouring those who fought for their country. The MCG and the lights of the city as backdrop was made for nights such as these and, in my view, we received a more inspirational ceremony of Anzac culture than others both here and elsewhere around the country.

  • CASEY: Richmond

The match up of teams competing in our great Aussie game at its second highest level is a rarity for a work day Thursday morning but the blustery conditions that met the players at a windswept Casey Fields was something far more commonplace. They turned the opening stanza between the Casey Demons and a somewhat depleted Richmond VFL into a mess of fumbling unforced errors, spilt marks and wasted opportunities for both sides but they did set up a significant win for the home team which is exactly what transpired on this Anzac Day round opener. Casey opened up strong against the breeze with the first goal to Aidan Johnson, the Tigers quickly responded and the game degenerated into a defensive slog and the teams were level when the first siren sounded.

After five consecutive defeats, the Demons have now notched up back-to-back victories, comfortably accounting for the Tigers in the traditional ANZAC Eve clash. They surged to a commanding 44-point lead early in the final quarter before easing off the pedal, resting skipper Max Gawn and conceding the last four goals of the game to close out a solid 20-point win.
