Josh Toy is the pick of the two players in my opinion.

Does not have the hype of Caddy and will/could meet a need for the MFC.

Anyone out there that didn't have Josh Toy in their SuperCoach or DreamTeam at the start of 2011? - his early form at GCS was pretty good.

Let other clubs fight over Caddy and get Toy with minimal fuss - smart strategy.

Caddy won't be choosing which club, GC will decide on the best deal.

Yes he will. He'll have a "preferred" club and GC will want to be compensated adequately. I agree that there's no guarantee that he'll get to the club of his choice, but in the early stages both he and GC will try and make it happen.

Caddy is very overrated by the AFL community. He is not overly quick and not great by foot. He is not worth pick 13 in my book.

In saying that, a potential path we could take is to offer him a high dollar i.e. $750K one-year contract to come to us via the PSD (so high that it puts GWS and GCS off taking him) and agree to trade him to Essendon the year after for their first round pick. We need to spend the salary and we would gain a first round pick the year after. Caddy would pick up extra money and eventually get to Essendon and GCS would lose out on any compensation.

The other option would be to offer to trade down pick 13 to broker the deal a la Geelong and Mark Williams from Hawthorn to Essendon. (i.e. gain two picks in the early 20s).

Is the bloke going to be really worth it? From what I have seen has done SFA with Gold Coast. Its like we're salivating over the fact a new franchise player is homesick so we should pay whatever to get him here.

Caddy hits me as a young player who has done little more than others of his year, but generated enough headlines that he is known to all and thus assumed to be better than he is.

Bit like our Tom.

To do the trade you gotta have the picks and the Cats (pick 15+) and Bombers (pick 30+) don't. So who are they sending to GC in exchange for Caddy?

Would GCSuns be interested in Brent Moloney (RFA)? I think they said they'd like some big bodied players?

Moloney + P13 for Caddy ???

We have already made it known we will let Moloney go as a FA.

So what you are saying used to be unlikely - now it is impossible.

Surely, if Beamer wants to go to the Bumbers, & IF the GCSuns were interested in Beamer, & Beamer I reckon wouldn't mind the Sun, Coast & girls, then maybe we could help it happen?

Beamer is a free agent, no-one needs to trade for him. He's free to sign wherever he wants.

"This is the new world of free agency – Brent is a restricted free agent and the rules allow him to explore these opportunities.

“We wish him well for the future.”

Doesn't sound like we are going to go for a trade.

It doesn't matter - he may get a few FA credits or points or whatever they are going to call it and we might get a decent pick regardless.

What about

pick 13 + Stef Martin & Petterd

for

Toy & Caddy

Gives them a geniune ruckman (fraser retired) and a medium size forward as I dont reckon they will be after mids as they have O'Meara coming in

Posted

No no no no no to Caddy if it means parting with pick 13. Nothing so far to show that he is worth it. If he can be packaged with Toy in a reasonable deal maybe, but even Toy is looking to have been overrated a bit.

If we trade for caddy with pick 13, we must also get an agreement from gc not to bid on viney.

I would not mind if we also agree pick 4 for md pick 2 for gws with the same agreement.

Could end up:

- pick 3 (toumpas/orourke/kennedy for speed outside)

- pick 4 hogan (kpf)

- pick 13 + pettard - caddy + toy

- 2nd round viney

- some fta eg: byrnes, russell etc

Would be happy with this.

Pick 13 is over the odds considering Mitch Clark was pick 12. Caddy has shown very little at GC. Let him go elsewhere We need players that are quick and can impact games. Kennedy or Garlett would be better for us..

Don't know enough about Kenendy and Garlett but what I have seen of Caddy doesn't thrill me.

To use a PK line, Caddy is "all tip and no iceberg".

Caddy has his best football still in front of him. Get a deal done - what ever it takes

Try Pick 3 & 13 for 2 & Caddy. That gives Gold Coast a chance to get Tippett with Pick 13 and their 2nd rounder and they still retain Pick 3 in the national draft.

Secures us Caddy, Viney in the 2nd round and our number 1 target in the national draft.

Posted

Hold on.

Gold Coast get Tippet for pick 13 and a second rounder, and we get Caddy for pick 13 (and some change).

I'd prefer GC's deal for Tippet.

The team that helps Gold Coast get Tippett has to be in the box seat to get Caddy.

We need some players with a serious case of leather poisoning. Of what I've seen of caddy, he gets about 13 touches a game, and butchers the ball. Actually he will fit In perfectly!

Posted (edited)

I'd pass on Caddy for the sole reason that he wanted to go ONLY to the Dons last year and made too big a fuss about it all for a player with few credits in the AFL player bank...

Over valued and we'd be likely to pay too much if we tried to out muscle other clubs ... for a so-so midfielder whose value has diminished since he was drafted, i.e Drafted at pick 7 & now struggling to justify pick 13.

I do wonder how many people in here actually realise that GCS actually have to REDUCE the size of their list?

They'd be THE LEAST INTERESTED CLUB in whatever steak knives/grab bag of plastic cutlery we have to offer. Picks or GTFO.

Yes, but they may want some bigger bodies...

They're on record from what I remember that they want to get some bigger bodies onto they're list as they went too young, & got the balance wrong. As we did with too much kind skilled types.

Beamer is a big body & is a handy age bracket for them as many of they're kids mature. You never know, they may be interested.

Steak knives are a necessity unless you have too many sets.

Time will tell if they go after some more physically mature players to supplement their list.

It will be interesting to see how clubs handle the new FA Regulations & what tricks get applied.

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
