Sharks get the win in the men's water polo and are through to the quarters!

We're now 3 from 3 in team sports tonight. Hockeyroos need to make it 4!

And congrats to McKnight and Buckman in the women's 1500m track for making it through to the semi finals. Top effort from 2 very young runners and bright prospects for the future!

Oh and of course Sally Pearson, fastest qualifier for the semi's in the hurdles. How could I have forgotten that?

Edit: Pearson.

Sharks were terrific . Apparently our shooting % has been below average leading into tonight's game . Barring an upset we'll probably face Serbia in the QF's . Anything can happen on the day so ya just never know !

Well done to Sally and our 1500 metre runners . Tom Slingsby sails in less than an hour and then its Michael Diamond in the Mens Trap at 1.00am .

Steve Solomon is unlikely to win a medal, but he has won me over.

The kid has class and a fiery will to win that you just can't teach. He lengthened really, really well when nobody expected him to in both races. And has lowered his PB twice. I like the forward pattern and hope he can improve on it again in the Final. All of this for a 19-year-old. FM.

Gold Australia , GOLD !

Well done Tom Slingsby

Great effort by Slingsby!

In other news unfortunatly the Hockeyroos drew 0-0 with Argentina, meaning they miss out on going through to the semi finals on goal difference only for the 2nd Olympics in a row. If they were in the other group they'd earnt enough points to get through but not in Group B. That first up loss to New Zealand really cost them. :(

Further to what I posted above, this is the 2nd Olympics in a row the Hockeyroos have missed out on the medal stage.

Maybe it's about time they looked at bringing in Quarter Finals for the Hockey. They have it for the women's water polo when there's only 8 teams competing, why not the field hockey when there's 12????

Edit: Link didn't work sorry.

BOOM! Only 6 minutes in and the Kookuburras 2-0 up over Pakistan already.

With only a draw needed to advance I'm feeling better already.

4 - 0 now ! Great 1st half .

Edit : Kookaburra's win 7 zip . Great win . Next up , Germany in the Semi's .

Been a long time coming, well done Anna and Sally. Two gold in the one night is a grat effort after our quieter then expected first week.

Fingers crossed we can at least pick up another 3 Gold to equal the amount we won in Barcelona.

With the Kookuburras and Opals in the semis, Matthew Mitcham, Steve Hooker (out of form I know) and more sailing still to come, here's hoping!

And bad luck to our women's water polo team who went down in their semi final over night. Now to play off for a bronze.

Great to see 2 more golds added. Pearson is incredible!

Absolutely.

Awesome performance. So too the Kookaburra's win over Pakistan. Some of the best goals you will ever see. Pretty good win against a quality opposition in Pakistan. Gold I tell you, gold !

Great stuff from Pearson.

Awesome power riding from Meares.

I also wanna tip my hat to Annette Edmondson who got Bronze in the Omnium ???

Watched the young 20yr old jam her bike through the narrowest of gaps at full tilt on the last turn and elbow her way to the lead in one of the legs.

These Velodrome bike riders in the argey bargey events have serious balls.

Good to see the Russian pole vaulter is wearing his throwback 1980s Melbourne guernsey in honour of Brad Green. The Cuban vaulter Borges snapping his pole was impressive too. Speaking of near calamity, how the German weightlifter overnight avoided serious harm is beyond me.

Top effort by the sailign team again!

Now only 2 gold short of what we got in 92'. And with the first week we had, if that can be achieved then it'd have to be a pass mark.

With Mitcham to come along with the Kookuburras into the semi's and Steve Hooker into the final of his event and more sailers in good positions we'd have to be a chance.

Then again I will note that in total medals won we are 8th on the medal tally. Reckon the IOC should change the medal tally to have positioning given to total medals won ahead of total gold, that way it's celebrating all medalists more. It just seems silly that Japan have won 4 times the amount of medals that Kazakhstan have won, yet are behind them on the medal tally.....

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie
