There are other threads but I think they are messy and I can't be stuffed going looking for something NQR.

Here are the contracts for people who think a contracted Martin will be gone or for those fans worried about what Healy said to McLardy last night about youngsters not re-signing.

2015

Clark, Trengove

2014

Frawley, Tapscott

2013

Watts, Sylvia, Davey, Gysberts, Grimes, Taggert, Gawn, Martin, Tynan, Sellar (assumed automatic 2 yr deal),

2012

OOC (in number order)

Jones, Batram, Bennell, McKenzie, Petterd, Blease, Strauss, Garland, Cook, Jurrah, McDonald, , MacDonald, Howe, Jetta, Davis, Spencer, Bail, Fitzpatrick

Rookies (upgrade or delist)

Nicholson ®, Evans ®, Lawrence ®

Rookies (1 year option)

Couch, Magner, Sheahan, Williams

RFA

Moloney

UFA

Jamar, Green, Rivers, Bate, and Dunn.

I hope this helps people with any confusion over who is out of contract.

A great deal of talent is out of contract...

Thanks rpfc

Makes for interesting reading

Somebody has a lot of work to do over the next 3 months.

I reckon there are a number of the ooc group that will have their manager looking for offers, my guess is 8.

of which 3 probably won't get a choice.

Only my view from the stand of course

Good to have confirmed

A lot of players out I would have them ranked on priority as below

Jones, Howe, Blease, Rivers, McKenzie, Jamar, Jurrah, Strauss, McDonald, Garland, Batram, Bail, Moloney, Petterd, Davis, Jetta,Nicholson, Bate, Dunn, Bennell, Cook, Fitzpatrick, MacDonald, Spencer, Green

On the Rookies keep Couch, Magner on the rookie list and I think you can nominate 1 or 2 that has been on your rookie list for 2 years that can remain, for me Evans and Lawrance would be good to keep as Rookies

Order of importance for me: Garland, Blease, McDonald, McKenzie, Jones, Jamar, Jurrah, Rivers, Howe, Strauss and then the rest.

Interesting. Not an easy call to make. Here's my attempt.

Jones, Jamar, Jurrah*, Garland, McKenzie, Blease, Rivers, Howe, Bartram, Strauss, Moloney, McDonald, Bail, Bennell, Petterd, Nicholson, Davis, Dunn, Bate, Cook, Jetta, Fitzpatrick, MacDonald, Green, Spencer.

* obvious implications around court findings to consider

Wow! That was hard!

2012 ooc

Interesting I wouldn't miss 12 of those at all.

The problem is getting replacements.

I'll rate mine in order of preference..

* Jones, Howe, TMcDonald, Davis, Garland, Blease, Fitzpatrick, McKenzie, Strauss, Rivers, Spencer, Petterd, Cook, Nicholson, Bartram, Jetta, Bennell, Jamar, Bail, Moloney, Jurrah, Bate, MacDonald, Dunn, Green.

Just noticed an interesting one, Cook

Wonder if he wants to stay?

Who would pick him up?

Jones, Howe, Mcdonald, Jurrah, Blease, Jamar, McKenzie, Cook, Garland, Rivers, Strauss, Moloney, Bail, Nicholson, Petterd, Davis

others need to earn a spot

Who would pick him up?

Alot of teams, as clubs dont right off all asutralian U18 CHF after 1.5 years

like supporters do

I'll rate mine in order of preference..

You rate him 21st out of 25.

Behind Fitzpatrick, Petterd, cook, Bennell and Bail.

Not sure you will have many agreeing on that one Dee-luded certainly not me.

From that list there is only one other I would say has Star ability.

Why so low?

My question was would he want to stay?

Only signed a 2 year initial deal

Now who does that remind me of.....

Would he want to stay?

Yep, at this point, about that. Hardness & work ethick, almost nil. I'd rather keep Sylvia.

Excitement counts for zero, when the tough things aren't desired. Flash over the pan.

# edit: Do you really think I right things for people to agree with? I right things hopefully for some people to think about some more.

Ok i answered someone else, but i think he would,

We need a KPF obviously and Watts is becoming further from it.....

He has been injured so i doubt he can claim he has been starved of opportunity

If we somehow get Cloke then he will become dispensable and maybe some nice trade bait

Thought he worked hard on the w/e personally, chased ect

Leopards & spots. It'll take more than 6 months of good stuff to convince me he wants to change his desire for the contest. it's not the chasing, it's the hog tying & bringing them down bare handed i want to see from him. so what if he gets hurt or breaks a fingernail.

I'm hoping for us to find finals winning players.

Not tiddlee-winks players.

Stay calm Dee-luded

No I don't think you write just so people will agree.

I was just surprised you rated him so lowly.

Just wanted your opinion why

24 out of 39 are out of contract at seasons end . Is this some sort of record number? Seems an awfully high figure . And we haven't heard much at all about re-signing any of them .

And of the 15 that are contracted post 2012 , there's a few that some supporters would rather see the end of (Sylvia , Morton and Davey) and another 3 that are in the 1st year of their initial 2 year contract .

What this indicates to me is that the club is looking to 'turn over' quite a number on our list . Or at least be a big player at the trade table and in the 'free agency' area .

Thanks for posting the list 'rpfc' . Didn't see Morton there (contracted till the end of 2013)

I'm not sure that it's all that unusual, but I imagine we'd normally have more players already sewn up, if we didn't have new coaching group trying to form firm opinions on the players first.

It's mighty unusual . 24 out of 39 is unprecedented . I reckon it might have been about 12-14 last year for instance . Obviously the new coaching group would make the figure a bit higher . I'm with old dee on this one - there's probably more than a few looking elsewhere . The figure is too high to suggest otherwise .

By the law of averages, I'd you're correct about players looking elsewhere.

Quite a few we shouldnt be worried about.

I think at least 5 of Petterd, Moloney, Jamar, Green, MacDonald, Bate, Sylvia and Dunn will go.

Possibly all.

Some poached, others not.

Our list is underperforming so much it's difficult to know where to begin . We'll have a much better idea at seasons end . The interesting bit is that our own free agents coupled with the contracted Sylvia and Davey hold the key to our re-build . And it's looking increasingly likely that that's what we'll be doing .

I can foresee a stack of new players at the club next year . Through trading , the draft and hopefully 3-4 players picked up as free agents . We may go for Cloke but he'll probably take up too much of our salary cap . Experienced midfielders are what we need - desperately

It’s Game Day, and the Demons return to the MCG wounded, undermanned and desperate. Still searching for their first win of the season, Melbourne faces a daunting task against the Fremantle Dockers. With key pillars missing at both ends of the ground, the Dees must find a way to rise above the adversity and ignite their season before it slips way beyond reach. Will today be the spark that turns it all around, or are we staring down the barrel of a 0–6 start?

  • PREVIEW: Fremantle

A month is a long time in AFL football. The proof of this is in the current state of the two teams contesting against each other early this Saturday afternoon at the MCG. It’s hard to fathom that when Melbourne and Fremantle kicked off the 2025 season, the former looked like being a major player in this year’s competition after it came close to beating one of the favourites in the GWS Giants while the latter was smashed by Geelong to the tune of 78 points and looked like rubbish. Fast forward to today and the Demons are low on confidence and appear panic stricken as their winless streak heads towards an even half dozen and pressure mounts on the coach and team leadership.  Meanwhile, the Dockers have recovered their composure and now sit in the top eight. They are definitely on the up and up and look most likely winners this weekend against a team which they have recently dominated and which struggles to find enough passages to the goals to trouble the scorers. And with that, Fremantle will head to the MCG, feeling very good about itself after demolishing Richmond in the Barossa Valley with Josh Treacy coming off a six goal haul and facing up to a Melbourne defence already without Jake Lever and a shaky Steven May needing to pass a fitness test just to make it onto the field of play.

  • NON-MFC: Round 06

The Easter Round kicks off in style with a Thursday night showdown between Brisbane and Collingwood, as both sides look to solidify their spots inside the Top 4 early in the season. Good Friday brings a double-header, with Carlton out to claim consecutive wins when they face the struggling Kangaroos, while later that night the Eagles host the Bombers in Perth, still chasing their first victory of the year. Saturday features another marquee clash as the resurgent Crows look to rebound from back-to-back losses against a formidable GWS outfit. That evening, all eyes will be on Marvel Stadium where Damien Hardwick returns to face his old side—the Tigers—coaching the Suns at a ground he's never hidden his disdain for. Sunday offers two crucial contests where the prize is keeping touch with the Top 8. First, Sydney and Port Adelaide go head-to-head, followed by a fierce battle between the Bulldogs and the Saints. Then, Easter Monday delivers the traditional clash between two bitter rivals, both desperate for a win to stay in touch with the top end of the ladder. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • REPORT: Essendon

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.
