Would Emma Quayle make a good recruiting manager?

I have been reading through some posts and there are quite alot on recruitment, super drafts, compensation picks, who should be interviewed ect and most of these seem to all mention the name Emma Quayle.

She seems to know the up coming players inside out, strengths and weaknesses as well as have good knowledge of how all other recruiters in the competition work and there tendencies.

With all this, wouldn't she be a good candidate to be a recruitment manager? She obviously knows how to do her homework.

Being able to mine information from recruiters and articulate them - which Emma Quayle is very good at - and being able to spot talent and manage a team of recruiters are vastly different skills.

I'll jump in. I think she knows her stuff. I suggested elsewhere that she does get a lot of her stuff from a wide selection of recruiting people and these sources would dry up if she were working for a club.

I think she may also have built relationships with alot of the TAC coaches over the years and be able to get more info then what may be first provided. I am sure alot of TAC coaches may hold back on negative information in relation to players personality and character as they wouldnt want to reduce there players chance of being drafted

No offence, but she's a journalist.

Put it this way, if 2 people applied for the job, one was Emma and the other was Todd Viney, who would you chire?

If the 2 applicants were Emma and Phat Phil on the other hand, I'd be re-advertising.

Seriously? Emma Quayle, as recruiting is actually her specialty.

Emma has had a decades experience in analyzing youngsters and draft prospects and has a good track record of predicting the draft opposed to Todd who acts as a fill in guy for whatever role is needed?

What's Casey Sibasado doing these days?

What my post is indicating is that I'd rather a "fill-in" like TV, than a qualifed journalist like EQ.

What's wrong with that bloke from Collingwood that we are trying to poach? Would you prefer Emma over him?

Actually, I wouldn't be against me over Emma, if you know what I mean... B)

If I were you, I would be running for cover about now.

As for recruiters, with the amount of "expertise" among the posters here on Demonland, I think the club need only stick their nose in occasionally and get it done for free.

Her good track record on prediction comes from talking to those who do the actual bidding.

However I will not dismiss her as quickly as others.

I take onboard Nasher's comment that she is good at articulating what she is hearing but I also know she does do a fair amount of her own "scouting". She has experience in watching recruiting teams so maybe this could translate into doing.

She does make good judgements from the brief reading of her stuff.

If footballers can play for 10 years and be exposed to enough media that they can cross from footy to media who is to say a savvy journalist who is not only skilled at interpreting others information but also gleaning knowledge first hand and has years of focusing on recruiting cant make the cross from journalism to recruiter.

I'd prefer a real recruiter. Todd Viney is not a real recruiter. Neither is Emma Quayle, but she at least has significant experience in the talent-scouting industry.

So Chook, are you saying we have made the wrong decision putting TV in the role that he is currently in? I hope you're wrong, as I'm sure Todd, you, me, Emma Quayle, and Blind Freddy know that watching the form of any potential AFL draftee happens well before draft day. If we're activated our compo picks for this years "super draft", we'd want to get the bloody thing right.

I'd prefer her to stay doing what she is doing. She's the best sports journalist in the country.

Only insofar as there are people who would do the job better than him. He's probably the best guy we currently have to do the job, so for now, he'll do.

Would Michelle Grattan make a good Prime Minister?

she could possibly make a good beuracrat.

im not suggesting Emma Quayle to pick up a footy and get drafted herself.

No she has had a decade experience second handing the comments of others who can and do recruit.

I'd back Todd miles before Emma.

Social media is a very useful tool for spotting/listing talent in AFL footy- its very hard to keep "secrets" in modern day football.
