Membership Tally 2012

Featured Replies

A few call back listeners on SEN Radio that barracked for other teams would like to express their respect for the late JIMMY STYNES by buying a melbourne membership that could then be passed on to a young person thats part of the reach foundation , We will see what affect this will have on our membership tally.

27, 267 as of this morning.

How is that so? BarrassHarrass posted on the 21st March that figures were 27,868.

Just checked the MFC web site hardtack and 27267 is the number so based on that we are back at 2009 levels.

We must win the first game or we will struggle to break 30 000 in 2012

FFS OD. We will easily break 30k.

I am concerned that we won't get above last year, but I am also worried that we will smash through 40k on the back of 'goodwill' members and that is worth very little to me. They are unlikely to stay members in the future and give a false sense of where we are at.

This seems to be most up to date site.

RPFC is right, I wouldn't be surprised if we reach close to 40,000 this year on the back of Jim's passing. The drop in 2013 will be telling.

Gee rpfc I just do not see 40 000.

Are you sure our enthusiasm for Jim and all the good will generated will translate to memberships?

If you were a Carlton member would you buy a membership of the MFC because of Jim?

I am doubtful.

I just think it is vitial we win the first game because the second will be negative.

Not long now.

March 31st comparison:

2009 - we had 27,128 members

2010 - we had 27,595 members

2011 - we have 32,386 members

March 31 last year was our first game and I saw alot of people signing up at the ground. Hope the same happens this year. On a side note I pay my membership monthly and it's automatically renewed by the club each year. It's simple and painless and I don't even notice the money leaving my account. With many people saying they are saving up or didn't receive a renewal etc I was just wondering why more people aren't using the demons direct option?

Like you mine is deducted monthly but we are rusted on some are not.

Like it or not there are a substantial number of members who buy a membership based on their view of how the dees will perform.

pre 2011 we were coming off a promising 2010, 2011 was terrible, a large number of 2011 members feel burnt.

IMO they will only rejoin if they think 2012 will be a better year.

It is absolutely critical that we win at least 4 out of the first 5 winnable games and this will see a major boost in memberships. This will see a quick spike in the right direction to 40,000.

If we win 4 of the first 5 I will be unbelievably happy.

wins over Bis, Richmond , Bulldogs and Saints would be a great start as we could not beat 3 of that four last year

If at this time you are being a lazy [censored], sitting on your fat arse not renewing your membership, then I hope the club hunts you down, kicks you in the nuts, then makes you pay up.

Sh*t this post scared me so much that I phoned up this morning and paid my $170 mfc/mcc membership.

Mind you, like many other supporters I generally leave it till the last minute to renew (and I've been a member of the MFC for over 30 years). Now - to get my children to renew...

OD... note that he said "...win at least 4 out of the first 5 winnable games" - for some on here, that could mean by round 24, in which case membership numbers won't be affected ;-)

Yes well they are very winnable games so it will tell us where we are at if we dont put up a decent effort. Knowing Melbourne, we will lose all 4 and then beat WCE in Perth - Ahhh the Dee's!!

I missed that hardtack, now I am depressed again.

and it is way too early for single malt.

Funny stuff, I like it. Always have to word it correctly on here!

Likewise OD. Bugger it, get the bottle back out and enjoy yourself, you only live once! :)

Speaking of membership, as a life member, Jimmy got a free membership each year. If it is not the case with life members who pass away that their spouse gets to use the free membership, then it should be and a free membership (not a life membership per se) should be given to Sam for the rest of her life. Additionally her children should also receive a free membership each year for say the next 20 or more years, so that they can come and enjoy the Dees at the G without having to worry about tickets etc.

It may be only a little thing, but I feel that along with whatever else is decided, this would be a nice gesture by the club.

The Melbourne website seems to have been updated. It now reads 28267.

It’s been a season of grit, growth, and glimpses of brilliance—mixed with a few tough interstate lessons. Now, with finals looming, the Dees head to Kardinia Park for one last tune-up before the real stuff begins.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
