I've belatedly discovered Jake Bugg. This is from his self-titled debut album, released in 2012 when he was just 18.

Remembering days past when I’d wander up to the Station Hotel in Prahran and watch some of the best talent going around. Those days and nights are, to me at least, still a source of great pleasure and solace as I reflect on how I felt back then… life was good…

Nice to see Wilbur in the wild (terrible pun I know). It was before my time but I recognise Jane Clifton, quite a voice, I had no idea she was a singer. One of the record groups I subscribe to mentioned Dutch Tilders, again a bit before my time, but then again so much good music was. This is a more recent song.

I don't think I was fortunate enough to have access to the wealth of artists you may have seen, but I was regularly exposed to live music. I think as time goes on it is becoming more of a rarity, unfortunately, well maybe just less accessible. The last outing was being dragged along to the Red Hot Summer Tour. Jimmy Barnes, Bird of Tokyo and The Living End being the acts I was looking forward to seeing. Then along came Kasey Chambers and lifted the bar so high it felt like we peaked too early in the day (actually Mahalia Barnes + The Soulmates put on a great show).

Yes, there’s always a lot of good music, but sadly the number of venues seems to have dwindled out. I love that Kasey Chambers take on Eminem’s Lose Yourself… in fact I posted a link to it in one of the threads in the footy forum.

Just for the hell of it, I thought I might resurrect Macca’s post from almost 13 years ago (😳), describing his ‘vision’ for this topic.

I guess the song that I’m posting meets Macca’s requirement that it somewhat resembles rock, although this, from my friends’ band Buddhadatta, who are based in Osaka, is classified as Buddhist punk rock. The guitarist/vocalist, Mitsuteru, uses Buddhist chants as the core of his songs while Seiko (bass) and Takami (drums) grind out solid foundations for Mitsuteru to play around in.

Despite their appearance, these people are three of the nicest humans you could hope to meet. They plan to be back here early next year, and I can’t wait to catch up with them again. The music’s obviously not for everyone, but throw on your headphones, crank up the volume, and who knows, you just might enjoy it…

Another reason I started up this thread is I dislike it when people argue about music. Back when we were young we just soaked it all in when music was introduced to us

So making the thread about the rock genre and more specifically, rock music videos has worked to that degree.

Was thinking we could do a month (September?) of Aussie rock both contemporary and way back as far as the 50's* (??)

Bands such as Chain, Spectrum, Zoot, Madder Lake, Easybeats etc etc could feature

*I don't know of any rock bands in Oz in the 50's but I'm sure there must be a few at least

That sounds like a great idea Macca, so let’s do it. You should try to get the Admins to promote it as an activity to do, now that after tomorrow, the Dees have no more involvement in the remaining few weeks of the season.

The genre they fall under is DSBM or Depressive Suicidal Black Metal which I dont like as I find this music soothing and beautiful, this is their first album, if you can make it through a few mins you will hear the various instruments. One guys "sings" and the other plays every instrument.
Many a night I'll spin one of their albums whilst enjoying a whisky.

I like having to put it like "sing" when talking to the mainstream..

Never really dipped my toes into the black metal scene.

On the heavy scale of things stopped around Botch/Converge/Darkest Hour.

My musical tastes range hugely, but metal and punk are prob my mainstays.

And yeah Black metal is massive for me, I travel to festivals in Europe when I can, next year we are doing Scandinavia and going to beyond the gates in Norway. Can’t wait.

I know it’s a bit sacrilegious to say but 90s hardcore never really captivated me - yet I love bands that would idled them like Terror, comeback kid, blacklisted, have heart etc

Terror were awesome, same as blood for blood.

Ag front have a big influence for me, met the guys a few times, when in New York we all got tattooed at Vinnie Stigmas shop and he came hung out with us, bought us pizza and we went to a gig with him that night. Such a nice bloke.
