If anyone is looking for a show I would recommend Taboo which stars Tom Hardy, thoroughly enjoyed it.

 Taboo Imdb

I am enjoying it but boy is it dark and heavy...

I rarely watch TV besides the footy but have recently been  visiting( bothering) some friends who have Stan to watch a show called Preacher. It's based on a 90s comic book which I was a fan of back in the day. Don't expect superheros though.

Stranger Things season 2 is now on Netflix, plan on watching it tonight. Recently finished “The Fall” which I really enjoyed.

There are a number of podcasts surrounding 'Stranger Things' but I found the following one to be amongst the better ones ...

Dungeons & Demogorgons - A 'Stranger Things' Podcast by the "Bald Move Crew."

Thanks for mentioning “The Fall”.

Into season 2 and thoroughly enjoying it.

No worries. Apart from being just entertaining, the politics of it all is very true and correct.

Season 2 of Stranger Things was good but I don't think it lived up to the first season. I would go into more details but wouldn't want to spoil anyone.

For those of you who have  a strange sense of humour, Rik & Morty is quite amusing.  Also IT Crowd is quite good too.

Agreed. Both are an acquired taste though haha

Anyone gotten through Stranger Things s2? Really enjoyed it again. Wasn't sure it'd live up to S1.

Loved Mindhunter too.

Just started ST2, finding it very slow.

If it's spy/espionage/drama (mini-series) that is to your liking,  here are some recent releases that are of good quality.

From the UK ... The Night Manager & The Game.

From the US ... The Assets & Rubicon

In series form,  Spooks (UK) & Berlin Station (US) are also very good although Spooks finished up in 2011.

Some popular sub titled series:

Deutschland 83 ( German spy drama... light hearted but serious subject)

Engregage/Spiral ( Fantastic French Crime Show)

Spin ( Another French Political drama. Very good.)

The Legacy ( Danish Family Drama)

1864 ( Danish war classic about their war with Prussia ... in a way the Danish Gallipoli)

and for a change one of my favourites: Lillehammer (not too dark comedy)

Thanks Ethan, you recommended " The Fall", finished all of it and enjoyed it.

The wife and I just finished Stranger Things season 1 and we loved it. Onto season 2, keep recommending the good stuff.

Mindhunter

I enjoyed the first season a lot as well. It is based on the true story of two FBI agents delving into the reasons murderers and serials killers do what they do.

Really enjoyed season 2 of 'Stranger Things' D77 ... watched it with the family and found it to be wonderful entertainment.   The music accompanying the show was fabulous too.  9/10 for me.

Am going to start watching 'Chance' ... know very little about the show apart from a brief outline of the plot and that it stars Hugh Laurie.  He was fantastic in 'The Night Manager' so I probably won't be disappointed with this new show.

Edit: Watched the first 2 episodes of 'Chance' and it's very very good.   A psychological thriller with some 'Breaking Bad' type elements.  Laurie is great as usual.

Hi Macca, we finished season 2 of 'Stranger Things' a few days ago. We thought it was brilliant entertainment.

Knew very little about the show, so glad I had a look at this thread.

I'll put 'Chance' on the list, we enjoy the thrillers, cheers.

We need to watch as much TV as possible to combat the long wait for the ' Game Of Thrones' finale.

You'll like 'Chance' if you like Hugh Laurie ... got through 3 episodes in all last night and it's brilliant.  'Noir' influences as well with all the players - Film Noir is possibly my favourite movie genre so the show works for me on a lot of levels.

But it's each to their own with regards to sports & entertainment, D77.  As is often the case,  the first 3 episodes of a show decides things.

Heading in for more back surgery soon, I’ll be couch/bed bound so please keep the recommendations coming. I’m looking forward to checking out ‘Chance.’

Just finished "The Sinner" with Jessica Biel which was fairly good, only has 8 episodes.

"A young mother tries to find out what's causing her to have violent tendencies."

Half way through Godless the new Netflix "Western" mini series.

Thought after the first few episodes that it might rival Deadwood but after episode 3 I don't think so.

That being said well worth watching.

Guardian gave it five stars:

"Godless, Netflix’s new seven-part miniseries, opens in 1884, in Creede, Colorado, with a thick cloud of smog shrouding the camera. The haze slowly dissolves to reveal a chilling landscape: parched bodies being tended to by swarms of flies; a man, sedentary, with a gunshot through his head; a train-wreck near which a young boy hangs from a noose; and a woman, crouched over a corpse, singing mournfully about Christ. It’s a near-wordless several minutes, a triumph of mood and cinematography, that evokes the sort of rough-and-tumble anarchy of the great filmic frontiersman. Soon after, we’re in La Belle, New Mexico, where we learn who’s responsible for the massacre, and from thereon it’s guns blazing. "

Watched the Goodbye to Ripponlea studios on the ABC last night.

Excellent show. May have noticed a well known Demonlander in one of the shots.

https://www.theguardian.com/media/2018/jan/10/slow-train-coming-sbs-to-air-17-hour-ghan-train-on-sunday

Following the success/controversy of airing a three-hour extract of a train trip through the Australian outback, SBS has decided to air a 17-hour version of the journey on Sunday.

Could be interesting... trying to remember but didn't SBS have a test pattern or similar years ago that rated quite well?

The ABC have a camera on a freshly painted wall, it’s a tough choice between watching this and the Ghan on SBS.

The Demon stalwart surpassed the number of his father's appearances for the club towards the end of the season. As he approaches his thirties, his pace is inevitably slowing, and he is likely to explore alternative opportunities beyond the team's midfield.

“Disco” took his time (four seasons) but the mid-season draftee has been a shining light of Melbourne's campaign, improving to become a versatile option at either end of the ground. He has great marking skills which allows him to play as a marking target up forward or an intercepting defender down back.

The skipper delivered another outstanding season, leading the team from the front, participating in every game, and earning club champion honours, while also securing an equal record eighth All-Australian blazer as a ruckman.  Max Gawn is arguably the greatest exponent of ruck skills in the history of the game; an exceptional leader who has guided the club to a premiership, through the challenging times that followed, and now into the next phase of its storied history.

It was a frustrating season for the former number 13 draft selection, who failed to build momentum in his second campaign; Tholstrup played only nine games, having been omitted twice and substituted out three times. However, he demonstrated promising signs in the midfield at Casey towards the end of the season, and big things are anticipated from him in the coming years.

He is presently contracted to the club for an additional five years, with a substantial annual salary of approximately $1.7 million in the final seasons of his agreement. All at Melbourne are eagerly anticipating his resurgence to his previous peak performance levels.
