I'm one of the few that's not all that thrilled with the schedule. Sure, we play the bottom sides more, but that's empty for me, West Coast were a "bottom side" going into 2012. In general it's a god thing, but overall it doesn't guarantee that we'll get good results. Not only that, but we'll likely get smaller crowds. Also, I'd rather we play top sides more, so the kids in the team get to know what they need to do.

The big displeasure though comes from the lack of Friday night games. Then again, I guess according to the league, you have to be a competitive side to qualify for more than 1. SO that's fair enough I guess... the rich get richer.

Maybe the AFL looked back at our last Friday night performance and decided that 1 will suffice.

I have mixed feelings on this draw. There are some very friendly aspects, such as the predicted two games against GWS and the lack of top four opponents. However, there are a number of games that look very questionable. Looking through it, I can see 8 that I would call clear wins. If we perform the way we did this year, that is all we will walk away with, and that would be a disaster for the club. On the other hand, there are five or six that we could win if we were to harden up and show some real improvement, much as we were hoping to see this season.

If we want to make the finals with this draw we need to play much harder and more accountable football, and to produce significantly better form than we have shown in the past. We'll need to win the dodgy games against teams like Essendon and North Melbourne, probably jag an away win against Freo, finally get over the dogs (who are looking very much like a spent force at the moment) and possibly even get over one of the stronger sides like Sydney or the Saints. That's a lot of ifs to me, and a lot of opportunities to fall over, so realistically I can't see us playing finals next year. If we did make it, I would count it a huge success and a massive bonus for the club.

It's not that bad overall. Rounds 5-11 are painful, but after the bye it's quite peaceful.

Only two games at Etihad is a win (why is St Kilda hosting us at the MCG? I don't get that). No AAMI is also good, but Perth twice sucks. Also having to travel in the final round for the second year in a row is a bit annoying (also since its Perth).

Glad we got GWS at the G instead of Etihad. I hope the MCC is packed.

Can't really complain about the lack of Friday nights. Need to win some games to make the AFL want to put us in them. A decent year this year and 2013 will see us benefit financially. As it stands, we have to hope the G is packed for the Richmond, Hawthorn, Collingwood and St Kilda games.

If it wasn't for the Darwin game, I would be rapt with this draw. I really hope they're planning a way out of there in the next few years as it places our entire season in jeopardy.

How annoying is that? Footy should not be slave to the TV stations, but the AFL has clearly sold us out for all that lovely ca$h. Has Channel 7 never hear of filler programs? I like the 2.10 game, a 3.15 start is going to take a big chunk out of the evening, particularly when the next day is a (brace yourself for the use of a four letter word) WORK day.

Yeah the positiver though is an extra hours sleep after a big night out on Friday/Saturday.

We can't worry about a tough stretch of around 6 rounds when we only play those teams once.

This should maybe go in the membership thread but considering we only have 15 games at MCG/Docklands compared to 18 last year will this be reflected in membership prices? I am a Trident member and the cost has gone up about $45 since last year yet we have access to 3 fewer games.

Just planning out my footy year, but I can't find mention of when the alternate home game as compensation for the Darwin game is.

Anyone know?

Found it! Is Round 3 vs Richmond Saturday 14 April at 1.45 (MCG).

Was in those little calendars the club sent out in the members packs.
