Well it seems that Brett Lovett the former Melbourne Demons player has been sacked as Coach of the Sandringham Zebras in the VFL.

Here is a link to the article about it: http://www.theage.co...1009-1lft3.html

Perhaps he would be a good replacement for Garry Lyon as "Director of Football" .....?? However, I suppose it is up to Mark Neeld and the MFC board.

I would prefer for Garry Lyon to stay at the MFC in some capacity though.

Anyways, I would like to hear people's opinions on whether or not we should consider offering Brett Lovett a job back at the Demons?

He could be considered to take over from Gary but I think the decision is a board one.

Neeld would have little say about who is being appointed to the board in fact I would be surprised if he had any.

I think Gary is sounding people out I thought I heard Gary might be putting the hard word on Gerard Healy.

We wait and see this is an important position which will take time and consideration.

Diablo, someone is taking the pizz if they suggested one Gerard Healy  Sure it wasn't his brother?

Anyway, in the past the position was filled by a board member, so first you would have to get elected when a vacancy was available

DC I don't think Andrew L's position was ever filled.

Maybe wrong but that is my memory of things from this years AGM.

I think you might be right but would it still require a vote or could the board just appoint a replacement to AL without members voting

Anyway whoever gets the job also has to be prepared to take on board member responsibilities which is another issue

My understanding is they could appoint someone now and if there was no challenger at the next AGM the person is elected unopposed for a term.

Not sure if he was "dumped" or not. In the paper on Sunday it said the Aints wanted a FT coach and Brett was only prepared to stay PT. Maybe that's the nice way of saying you're not wanted?

Might have been I vaguely recall Lyon mentioning On triple m he was looking for others to take over and mentioning Healy's name.

It was Greg Healy not Gerard Healy.

I dont know what the MFC constitution specifically says but it is usual practice for any director appointed by the Board retire for re appointment at the next available AGM.

Unless Brett Lovett has anything special to provide MFC I am not sure I would be appointing him to any role in deference to the best available candidate. If its indeed him then appoint him. Otherwise we are becoming an Old Boys club. Prefer appointments on merit going forward not just because you played at MFC.

The Football Director requires an 'old boy.'

Nepotism is sometimes required.

Board member. Ear to all at the club. Footy IQ required. Loyalty definitely needed.

An 'old boy' is what is required.

The Whole Old Boys Club thing is the biggest Myth in Football. So many clubshave so called "Old Boys" running the place with Key people who have played for the club intricate to the way its run and coached.

Carlton - kernahan / Ratten / Williams / Bradley all heavily involved in club workings for example. They atre their because they know the club and are good at what they do.

The Demons’ aggressive small forward who kicks goals and defends the Demons’ ball in the forward arc. When he’s on song, he’s unstoppable but he did blot his copybook with a three week suspension in the final round.
