The Casey Scorpions missed out on the perfect opportunity to secure a top four position on Saturday when they capitulated for the second time this year against a more determined Coburg Tigers.

The defeat came despite a strong performance by full forward Brendan Fevola who was in fine form with his marking, leading and kicking to finish with seven goals.

Matthew Bate struck a purple patch with two goals within minutes to restore the lead. Bate had an opportunity to further extend the lead but the redhead's rushed snap from 15 metres missed everything and went out of bounds on the full.

From this point onwards it was mainly all Coburg for the remainder of the term with Fevola the only Casey forward who looked like kicking goals.

Fevola was always the danger man and he added two more goals to easily stamp himself as his team's best player.

He was playing in the VFL... case in point - one of the few places where Matthew Bate can have a "purple patch"...

On top of everything else, Fevola hasn't done anything noteworthy on field for 2 years.

The bloke is a CANCER and he DOESN'T DESERVE ANOTHER CHANCE.

Whatever posters on here think, yes or no, Melbourne will not consider it.

Who are you, and how do you know?

If the new coach wants him, we get him.

The only way that happens is if the new coach is Brendan's dad.

(and I'm tipping redleg is a lot more qualified to make this call than you...)

I would recruit Fevola and Lovett murray in a heartbeat.

I dont care about past off field discretions, all i want is a flag.....at any cost!

They are just footballers, as long as they do the job on the field thats all i care about.

History will show only the amount of premierships won, not who had a fight in a bar or whatever.

That's all good & well, but what does the bolded part have to do with the rest of your post?

Since when have Fevola or Lovett-Murray (don't you mean Lovett?) won a flag, or even come close to it?

Of course it's the VFL. And many against the Fev argue that Fev is taking another younger potential talent's place. But my point on including Bate was that it's not just Fev doing this. I don't feel Bate is up to it anywhere forward of center anymore either (and maybe no where else). But he's still there kicking a few goals and taking up someone else's space as others would say.

Point being there's always going to be the odd player or 2 (or more) in this club and any club that peeps will say.. "Oooo.....he shouldn't be at this club or in the magoos, he's stifling another younger talent from getting experience" etc. Every club has had this supposed problem for decades and will continue to do so for as long as there's players who don't quite make the grade and get sent back for another chance at showing some form. And there's always going to be someone. So build a bridge gang.

In defence of Bate (and it's not a strong defence as personally i think he's gawn), at least he's doing something down there. More than i can say we got from Sylvia and Davey when they had a stint....yet back in the seniors they went....the very next week.

Fev hasn't done anything for 2 years agreed. So he's on a downer. That's his own fault, not ours. Doesn't mean he cant reproduce form though. It's been done before. That's why we don't just let him walk in on any contract. Short and performance based only.

This club is full of ghosts, skeletons and cancers and has been for decades. That's why we get the occasional melt down like we saw a few weeks ago. Doesn't need Fev to instill that culture mate. It's already well and truly ingrained in every dark crivece and dusty corner.

As a result of this long term cancer, we've got an outsider in Garry (as in wasn't employed by the MFC in any official capacity prior to taking on the consultancy) to try and flush it all out and sort it because as a club, we couldn't and failed. Well good luck with that Gazza. We're sure as hell gonna need it (with no Fev in sight!)

TL;DR

Got a coherent point worth making?

I sincerely hope you are right RedLeg....This Fevola talk is not healthy.

There are 81 MFC members who are very much considering Fevola. When you talk about Melbourne not considering it, who exactly is Melbourne. I feel I am as Melbourne as anybody else.

I think Fevola would be embraced by Jimmy stynes. Jimmy seems like the kind of bloke who would love to give a fella a chance at rebuilding his life.

At the cost of his club?

Feel free to do any rebuilding at the REACH Foundation, not at the MFC thankyou.

Wow. I can't believe some of the drivel dished up in this thread. It's up there with the once-every-two-weeks 'Gysberts is a [censored], our drafting sucks and we should have picked Nat Fyfe' post.

I struggle to think of one convincing argument to bring Fev to MFC. I could almost guarantee you that if a Melbourne official were reading this thread, they would've fallen off their chair laughing at the end of the first page.

Stupid thread - doesn't deserve a reply.

The more relevant question is - Would you like Casey to keep him next year?

Clearly the answer must be NO

I'd have to agree.

Poor form.

Why should the MFC put Fev on our list just because the Big Jimma wants to give people a second chace??

We are not a soup kitchen.

Fev could do loads of work at REACH, i have said that before....his AFL playing days are over. Finished. Done.

I wasn't referring to that, WYL.

It was more your flippant & thoughtless remark about Jimma's heartfelt work with Reach.

Then it was you who mis read, because i do not make flippant remarks about Jim Stynes in whatever he does.

Brendan Fevola, well that is a different matter.

Absolutely not!

Having said that, he couldn't be any worse than some already on the list from a playing perspective.

ie. Newton

What rubbish-- with a new coach - whomever he is- will want the best he can get--If Eade coaches us-I can assure you the first thing he would want is to gain the best commodity to cover our greatest weakness. That is Fevola as a leading experienced proven full forward similar to him grabbing Hall last year.Fevola has 3 if not 4 good years in him.

Pure fantasy. The similarities between Hall and Fevola's disposition may chalk and cheese almost identical.

What rubbish-(IMO) one gets the best resource to cover the worst weakness. That is not fantasy, that,- is just plain common sense that some have it, some just haven't got it, ...And Jim Stynes is a leader- he ways things up and looks at the best scenario for our club..He was one of the first persons to ring Fevola , when Jim was able to after Jim had tumours removed back ealier this year when he learnt of Fevola's experience in placing himself in the clinic.Claim that as plain fantasy if you like because that is a plain old fact.

When looking back at the disastrous end to the game, I find it a waste of time to concentrate on the final few moments when utter confusion reigned. Forget the 6-6-6 mess, the failure to mark the most dangerous man on the field, the inability to seal the game when opportunities presented themselves to Clayton Oliver, Harry Petty and Charlie Spargo, the vision of match winning players of recent weeks in Kozzy Pickett and Jake Melksham spending helpless minutes on the interchange bench and the powerlessness of seizing the opportunity to slow the tempo of the game down in those final moments.

  • CASEY: Sandringham

The Casey Demons rebounded from a sluggish start to manufacture a decisive win against Sandringham in the final showdown, culminating a quarter century of intense rivalry between the fluctuating alignments of teams affiliated with AFL clubs Melbourne and St Kilda, as the Saints and the Zebras prepare to forge independent paths in 2026. After conceding three of the first four goals of the match, the Demons went on a goal kicking rampage instigated by the winning ruck combination of Tom Campbell with 26 hitouts, 26 disposals and 13 clearances and his apprentice Will Verrall who contributed 20 hitouts. This gave first use of the ball to the likes of Jack Billings, Bayley Laurie, Riley Bonner and Koltyn Tholstrup who was impressive early. By the first break they had added seven goals and took a strong grip on the game. The Demons were well served up forward early by Mitch Hardie and, as the game progressed, Harry Sharp proved a menace with a five goal performance. Emerging young forwards Matthew Jefferson and Luker Kentfield kicked two each but the former let himself down with some poor kicking for goal.
Young draft talent Will Duursma showed the depth of his talent and looks well out of reach for Melbourne this year. Kalani White was used sparingly and had a brief but uneventful stint in the ruck.

The Demons return to the scene of the crime on Saturday to face the wooden spooners the Eagles at the Docklands. Who comes in and who goes out? Like moving deck chairs on the Titanic.

It's Game Day and there are only 5 games to go. Can the Demons find some consistency and form as they stagger towards the finish line of another uninspiring season?
