Does anyone get the feeling that articles like the following are a ploy by Collingwood to put other teams off Mick Malthouse?

No chance.

You must like conspiracy theories.

Haha, agreed. Absolutely reeks of it.

How about this from left field. Neeld gets the gig with us for 2012. Mick pisses of Bucks in 2012 and Bucks tells bigmouth to get him out fo the club. Malthouse comes to Dees with Neeld as senior assistant. Mick retires in afew years with Neeld taking over again. Neeld could set us up to play the way we should and Mick wants us to and then he comes across. There could be worse scenarios.

I get the feeling articles like that are a ploy by the Hun to fill print space.

Yeah, good call. It just seems that the players are pretty keen to sell this guy as a head coach.

Neeld, Sanderson, Hinkley and McCartney all have big reputations. A friend who is a Geelong freak reckons that Sanderson, McCartney and Hinkley were the architects of the Geelong "style", not Bomber. I can't back this up with any evidence but its perhaps points to the importance of having very bright people in the coaching panel.

Neeld's Wiki CV certainly looks ok.

:Mark "Neeldy" Neeld (born 13 July 1971) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Geelong and Richmond in the Australian Football League (AFL) during the 1990s. He is currently an assistant coach at the Collingwood Football Club.

Neeld, from St Joseph's originally, spent four seasons with Geelong and had his best season in 1991 when he put together 21 games, three of them finals. Used on both ends of the ground, he kicked three goals in the Semi Final against Hawthorn and two goals in Geelong's Preliminary Final loss to West Coast.[1][2] In 1994, Neeld joined Richmond after being traded for the 38th pick of the draft, which Geelong used to recruit David Innella.

As coach of Ocean Grove in the Bellarine Football League, Neeld steered the club to four successive premierships from 2000 to 2003. He spent three years as the Western Jets senior coach in the TAC Cup before appointed the defensive assistant coach of Collingwood in 2008. His coaching duties changed in 2010 when he was put in charge of Collingwood's midfield."

Eventually new coaches evolve and appear on the scene. Malthouse, Clarkson etc were all novice coaches at one stage. The experience and training, in very good football organisations, that these guys have is probably more than Malthouse, Sheedy, Eade, Matthews or Woosha ever had. They are all worth considering. Ross Lyon had that long apprenticeship under Roos, as did Longmire.

We should certainly be chasing the best I agree. If it is Malthouse, he will probably determine who his assistant coaches will be.

"Neeld, who is out of contract, has been offered senior assistant roles at Geelong, Gold Coast and Greater Western Sydney."

I find this bit interesting it doesn't mention whether Collingwood are offering him a new contract, unless I missed something.

And that is why there is no chance it's a "decoy".

You really think Eddie would enlist his players to talk up Neeld as a potential head coach, purely as subterfuge?

Do you understand the implications of that?

For the sake of a silly mind game, undermining a key assistant leading into finals?

That he is a key assistant at one of the best performing clubs in the AFL, but that to ask players to manufacture this sort of feedback is essentially a vote-of-no-confidence?

A professional outfit wouldn't entertain wasting their time on such silly and pointless mind games.

I'm much more inclined to believe Pendlebury has been asked a question about Neeld by a journo and has answered it truthfully.

Nothing more, nothing less.

Leading into this season all 3 tried to poach him.

There's gotta be something in the water down in Ocean Grove.

McCartney coached a string of premierships there a few years before Neeld took the helm.

Yep. Have thought that every time they come out and praise Neeld.

In answer to your questions. I wouldn't put anything past Mr.Mcguire, considering he's already subtly threatened legal action against his own coach. I also think it would be quite easy to disguise Neeld's promotion as genuine. Maybe the players are aware of the danger Mick Malthouse might pose to their dynasty if he were an opposition coach.

It's all conjecture but that's the food of a curious football supporter.

Yep , and to introduce a bloke thats being mentioned as a potential senior coach but who the majority of the average punters have not heard of before .

I didn't want an answer - can't you tell it's my own style of arrogant rhetoric?

It's not a ruse.

Do you really think they'd be one of the most professionally run AFL clubs if they played silly game like this?

I'm well aware of that, hence the reason I answered them promptly.

Are you?

Are you aware the questions I was asking in the post you replied to were rhetorical?

Because he wants a senior gig he wont get at the Wobbles.

He is going after that with their blessing which just makes good sense with 3 roles on offer.

Seriously we should look at him.

Oh And I should add its a great opportunity to test Malthouse out.

Gary: "Hi Mick just calling about Neeldy, what do you think would he like our list? Shame your not available but thats life.

We are going to offer a new coach a bucket load. He looks pretty good to us a younger versio of you really plenty of life left in him.

Oh and next year are you up for a regular game of golf? You will have plenty of time on your hands or will you have grand kidduty? We have space in our regular group now Bucks is going to be too busy. Man he so excited aout a shot at the trophy next year.

Mick : (unpublishable)

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
