I was chatting to a West Coast supporter last night who seemed to know a bit about the happenings at Collingwood.

I think everyone perhaps knows this, so it's not a particularly remarkable observation - but, apparently, there is genuine tension between Malthouse and Buckley, and Malthouse's gig next year is a long way from being sorted out.

He then asked what I thought about Bailey, to which I said I really liked him and hoped he would stay at the Dees next year in some capacity, though not necessarily as the senior coach.

In this guy's view Malthouse will be looking for a senior coaching role next year - and, assuming he is, he speculated that whichever club secures Malthouse will also get Scott Watters (who will form part of Malthouse's team and succession plan).

Malthouse thinks Watters is an absolute gun who will be a truly fantastic senior coach in the near future. Malthouse apparently thinks he's the best assistant coach he's ever worked with.

I don't know much about him, but I'm interested to know what other people think/know about Watters. Perhaps the club should be trying to set up a chat with him?!

Don't know much about him either but anyone with potential should be looked at. My main concern is that we have been hiring untried coaches for for the past 25+ years with no luck. This time around I'd like to see some proven track record in the senior role. I believe only a coach who has tasted genuine success and has competition wide respect will have the confidence and tools to break our losing ways and culture.

Well theres Malthouse, Clarkson and Roos around. Maybe you missed all the threads about them this season. But has the club the guts, will and leverage to get one of these guys to coach us?

If Mick wants to coach again next year, he should go to the Tigers... give himself a real challenge at his beloved former club.

Roos - doesn't want to move to Melbourne

Clarkson - probably will get a new deal

Matthews - Loving his media work

Blight - Compromised by GWS

Pagan - Carlton showed him as out of the game

Woosha - will get a new deal

Not much there. Makes me think more and more it'll either be Sanderson, Neeld or Bailey. (Could be Watters too, don't know how long he has been assistant at Collingwood though)

Rocket Eade no sure thing at bulldogs either. With uPcoming list his form stacks up quite reasonable

Otherwise untried coaches aren't a bad thing these days if they've been proven goers in other similar roles

Where's Choco in that list? It appears GWS has him stitched up - surely Sheeds can't really be coaching there? But I wonder how Choco feels about having him around - a bit like Malthouse - Buckley? I really rate Choco.

I only did the ones who are out of contract or free agents. Choco and Bomber Thompson are in contract, and while technically available I wouldn't consider them as the payout would almost certainly be ridiculous on both contracts.

I rate him too, just think he's almost definitely going to be GWS coach - if not next year, then 2013.

Watters?? So he coached Subiaco to a few WAFL flags (2006, 2007, 2008) when they were full of ex / future AFL players, not to mention Brad Smith at FF (who should have played AFL, kicked 100 goals regularly)? Not saying he cant coach, but thats a pretty decent WAFL squad

I think this could be close to it, as i have said before Neeld has been recognized strongly with Collingwoods development of the "press" and is rated highly all round form what i understand,

Im all for getting the best assistants regardless of who the head coach is, although i think we have a few good coaches atm, you can always improve,

Also people who want Bailey to stay around if not head coach i feel are dreaming, not that i wouldnt love it, but who wasnt the old boss around, also i would feel out of sorts a bit, and i new coach coaching "his" team.....

He is only 80, so should have at least 10 good years of coaching left in him. After that he could get an assistant's position with less pressure.

thanks for clarifying, alot of people suggest the WAFL is stronger?? due to money or something? and there being less teams distributes this talent further??

Either way it can be a combination of Players and Coach, i just remember the hype about his move, obviously when you win 3 Premierships you get hyped...

I have heard the opposite of triple premiership VFL coach at North Ballarat Gerald Fitzgerald, who some say did just benifit form a "great" VFL team.... i dunno taking away from peoples achievements is never good imo....
