Are you saying Apple are rotten to the core? Should stick to bananas.

That may well have been my first mistake.

the second was listening to my brother who is a Lions member.

Looking like we will have more new players in our first game than any other side. Tigers had one and Blues none. While in time they will add to our side, it might be hard early on, to gel quickly enough to win.

I was surprised the Tigers didn't pick Vlastuin (their first round pick) because, from all accounts, he was travelling well. They also have a handful of players from other clubs who they picked up this year and haven't selected which indicates they're hoping to use that depth later to overcome the inconsistency in their performances last year at times when injury struck.

Carlton, on the other hand, barely did any recruiting at the end of last year due to salary cap issues. They're hoping that the new coaching regimen will swing the necessary changes to get them back up the ladder.

If Carlton win I will completely lose faith in the law of averages.

As for the MFC, I understand that it's as rare as hen's teeth to see teams win in the opening round if they have more than four new players. We should have at least that number.

I think we will have between 6-8 new players.

Was there ever a computer called the Banana? I know there was a Peach.

Not in my memory Maurie

But it is not as flash as it was once.

Who is surprised that the Tigers did not pick Petterd who was similaiarly claimed to be travelling well [in his new role as a sweeping backman] and who was promoted off the rookie list?

Sydney is said to have 1091000 supporters as of December 2012. No wonder we find it hard to compete with some of the AFL clubs in the membership/sponsorship race.

I can see Demonland going into meltdown if we put in a poor one. Saintsational is probably doing that right now.

Has anyone been sacked yet.

I am surprised that Rodan got dropped and not Byrnes. They both played poorly, but I thought Byrnes was far worse, in that he fumbled several times a few of which which led to Port goals. I still am not sure why we got him, there had to be better. Ben Warren who we discussed on here a bit would have been far better, much younger and quicker.

I could never see the hunger for Pedersen. 2 games last year for the Roos and we were so desperate to get him.

I suppose they all deserve another chance.

Agree 100% Redleg particularly Pedersen. I watched his highlights reel and it seemed to be all one game which made me wonder.

All these selections concerned me at the time.

I said a number of time over the summer that Roden, Brynes, Gillies and Pedersen were players who were past it or struggled to get games with there previous teams.

Now it is only one game but they do not look flash so far.

Why with us?

I had the pleasure of watching him on ABC TV while I was checking out Gysberts' performance.

I can see us putting up a good fight in the first half and then getting run over, with the Bombers 14 day break over our 6 day break being a big factor. After the battering the players copped I am sure their effort will be AFL standard, I am just not convinced with their talent.

You may be right, Redleg, but it would be great to see Jack Watts kick the winning goal after the siren, just to watch all the Dons supporters walk out in disgust ...

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
