I won't do a daily countdown because they can get boring, but only 28 days to our Nab cup start.

WJ any info on where Waylen Mansen ended up after missing selection in the drafts.

Also I am keen to see how Hall goes with the Lions as he was another that many including myself wanted rookied.

Very little known about him since the drafts. His NTFL team Waratah has only won one game since winning the first six on the trot and that was against chopping block Darwin. This has occurred after Manson, Fevola and Pettifer stopped playing. I suppose it's what happens when you have mercenaries who aren't totally dedicated to the cause at a club.

Do I detect a "go" at a very new AFL club North of the Murray and West of Sydney?

I am not a real fan of figments, I prefer grapes and berries.

I'll just mention a couple of runners. No Dispute @ 5.57 Thursday at Ballarat and Le Beau Cheval @ 3.00 Thursday Hawkesbury.

Le Beau Cheval any relation to Vite Cheval - Good horse in its day

Based on this tipster's past record it might be a good idea to avoid both like the plague.

Hahaha!! "Walk Away..."

Whilst on horse racing. Redleg, do you give any hope for any runner against Black Caviar as she steps up to the 1400m in the Futurity Stakes and Orr Stakes and perhaps end Black Caviar's run of 18 wins ?

Pinker Pinker, I think is in the Futurity Stakes ...

Having lunch at Wong's right now Szechuan Chicken. The thankyou count is at around 11 so far...and have only just ordered.

On her disclosed form she would have no difficulty at the 1400. Given she wins hands and heels easily I would imagine that unless she is not herself or is injured she would win. I don't say that however would necessarily be the case over longer trips.

She has never felt the whip and has hardly been tested and has never been pushed out to win, but rather always eased down. She accelerates in a flash without effort and puts 4-5 lengths on the field effortlessly. She is a sensational sprinter and one of the best ever in the world. We are privileged to have seen her.

No Dispute just won. Other meeting was abandoned. Noble Game at Sale 2200m on Sunday.

Green and Moloney must be extremely disappointed. Our most passionate player, who just happens to be the current club B & F doesn't even make the leadership group of 8. I can see some resentment against the new Coach.

Last year means nothing to the new coach, & nor it should.

I have no problems with the Coach stamping his mark on the club as it is his head on the block. I just point out there are going to be a few boys who will be upset with his call.

Tittles don't mean anything when your out on the ground. Beamer will always give 100% and will probably see it as a challenge.

So as a coach, do you select players for their leadership qualities, or because they'll be upset if they miss out?

Is that a serious question? I was just pointing out that we will have some unhappy players in the group. If that unhappiness manifests itself in form or attitude or behaviour it will need addressing, that is my point.

By the same criteria Rivers would also be weeping into his weetbix. No one's saying much about him though.

Edit: point being that 2011 leaders failed.

Don't forget Flash, who carries the indigenous leadership hopes and was suggested by many to be Captain last year.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.

  • POSTGAME: North Melbourne

The Demons are finally back at the MCG and finally back on the winners list as they continually chipped away at a spirited Kangaroos side eventually breaking their backs and opening the floodgates to run out winners by 6 goals.
