I see your problem Red! You have an iPhone! Come to the light by trading up to an Android phone.

Maybe because the AFL hasn’t locked in the fixture beyond R6. Can’t put it into a calendar when the game can be played somewhere between Thursday and Sunday

Of course. He wouldn't make it into this thread otherwise!

Got to the game, but the separations created by the bizarre ticketing allocations meant our usual group were at opposite ends of the ground.

The club missed out on our celebrrity contributions as we retired to home base and enjoyed beers and wines from our own cellars while we enjoyed the replay.

If we are to continue these winning ways the club needs to make it easy for supporters to meet and celebrate.

It must be known that we will buy more drinks and raffle tickets when overcome with the euphoria of a win

Less punishment watching the game on tv this week.

My old man will get a call tomorrow, he supports Saints as he played with Eric "the tank" at Dromana.

i defied his best attempts to get me following the saints but he always said I was a bloody demon.

I fill you pain, as my old man was a Shockers member and never come to terms with me supporting an eastern states team. It did not help when I would ring him after we beat the Shockers and sing our team song. For some strange reason he stopped taking my calls after his team lost to us. Well someone has to support the lesser teams and I do miss the old man.

My brother in law, who is a Saints fan as well, did called to say that we are going down this week. The Saints are the Demons nature enemies so let the blood bath begin! Of course the Saints should be doing all the bleeding.

Update on generational supporting.

My Dad 95 this year has lost his passion for supporting the Saints.

It may be he has been enjoying lving with my sister and brother in law in Queensland for too long.

BiL is a great bloke but is a lifelong Pies follower my sister professes a liking for the Hawks. Dad would not like to cause any offence and is having enough difficulty keeping up with the nags he follows. With constantly following weather reports to schedule his swimming program and the opportunities the Queensland perfect weather allow thers just too much stimulation for him to be interested any more.

So I'm reassured as I hit my 70s that perhaps there's more to life than worrying if the dees forward structure is ok or if the mids need greater flexibility or even if Goody is the right guy.

While I can wile away hours trawling the many enjoyable, thoughtful and interesting threads in this site. I do miss the usual wit and philosophical insights which used to explode in this thread.

So  I can now understand given the old mans reaction that perhaps as we get older our ability to become emotional about anything let alone the fortunes of the demons will recede into meaningless while the price fluctuations of bananas can become all consuming.

i appreciate that such obsessions restrict contact and the general byplay that ha occurred for many years within this thread.

i am loathe to call time but the general paucity of aforementioned wit and philosophical discussion is leading to that conclusion.

dieter, it sound like your Dad is doing very well for someone of that age. I was at  a family funeral last week (a cousin of my mother's) for someone of that age, and it was hard to feel cheated on behalf of someone who had lived so long. Age doesn't always bring perspective, but it seems to me that this football thing has always been crazy, and that we enjoy it all the more so because of that. But there do come times when the silliness and froth of it all are laid bare, and it all just seem too trivial for words.

Best wishes to you and your family,.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
