Petterd is strong through the legs and good overhead but his kicking action is seriously flawed.

He drops the ball with both hands from half way up his chest. He just has to use the ball better, particularly when kicking for goal.

Agreed, he needs to nip this in the bud otherwise he will end up like Bate. I rate Petterd very highly but this is his weakness.

To be fair, Petterd was pretty poor outside of his tackling. For three quarters I felt he was giving us very little. In the fourth I felt his workrate went up, and I noticed him harrassing a lot more. The tackling effort and his fourth quarter to me are more than enough, but I didn't think the rest of his game was very good at all.

Ricky didn't make the distance with a couple of set shots from about 45 out, that's pretty poor for an AFL Footballer. Overall i thought he was alright and his fierceness at the contest was fantastic.

Jones is much better when he has other good players around him and he's not the main attraction, he doesn't seem to try to do too much when he has support.

Strauss is working his way in to the game and will be ok, it will take a few more games but I reckon we'll be happy with the end result.

Jones gets criticsed for his errant kicking but yesterday he hit some targets at long range that were just beautiful to watch his attack on the ball and stamina is fantastic - great team player

I've been completely impressed with Strauss' defensive work since he's come into the side. Does anyone know who his direct opponent was on Saturday? Because that to me is a measure of a good defender, he did his job and we saw nothing from his opponent.

His kicking can be an absolute weapon, and so the more comfortable he gets defensively the more he'll take on his opponent and slice through half back with his beautiful kicking.

He's quietly been doing a very nice job, which is great to see after a tough first few years in footy.

I suppose the real answer here is that when he has others around, he doesn't HAVE TO try to do more than he is capable of; this is where. I think, a lot of the unjustified criticism of his game comes from. Too often he has to carry too much responsibility.

As for Petterd, yes he was quiet early in the game, but who cares... he stood up and put in when it really mattered and helped to stop the game from slipping away. That is what good players do!

What you also didnt mention about Howe is who created the pressure /turnover for him to get the goal ? - it was Howe up on the wing. The kid works really really hard.

I don't think it was coaching. That was Howe's fourth game.

True as well although some posters think it was because it was his fourth game......I think unless somebody gets injured the forward structure won't be changing any time soon....and Howe will be past the games were he doesn't have an impact....being ironic there of course

It made for a much more potent forward line - more options more to cover.

My only concern with these seven names is the lack of a true crumbing forward to snap up the inevitable dropped and spoiled marks. Davey and/or Wonna added to the mix would complement it beautifully.
