more a reflection on the ineptitude of leading teams I would have thought.

greeny at the start of the season was the best of a bad bunch, I personally cannot see how he can be reappointed.

i believe sylvia would make a good captain, based solely on his ability to win the hard ball and be a match winner, always seems to play well when the rest are found wanting, 2day was a perfect case in point.

Given that Slyvia is probably the only player on our list that could drag the rest of the team to victory makes him an ideal captain (onfield at least). Moloney would try to drag us to victory but lacks the natural talent and polish of Slyvia - although a few more goals from fifty like last week would help his cause.

The big thing thats missing from the current leadership team is consistency. Arguably something that Junior excelled at.

The guy can't play, or at least hasn't shown any form, as a mid/winger this season.

If he is to stay in our best 22 (I can't believe I am writing that about our captain...ugh) it will be as a forward.

Simple as that.

And the worst thing is his body language - FCS, Brad, get your head up, stop playing for frees and demand more of yourself and those around you.

And get Brent to shut up at the breaks or give him the captaincy - there is no room for more than one voice with this group.

Sylvia put up his Hand today....He was our only forward who had any idea where to stand.

4 goals out of 6 in front of 76,000....Top effort.

Brad looks like a VC to me...but i do add he has a tough gig this year...a decent structure would help him.

I tend to agree with this.....

This is the first bout of really poor form we have seen from him in more than a couple of years.

It is just horribly bad timing, given the extra responsibility he must now deal with. And he isn't coping with it at all well.

I have always had faith in Brad, and while I am not happy with his output at this moment I believe he is still very valuable to us.

People all over the place now are saying there is too little experience and yet willing (wanting) to remove Green.

Admittedly he MUST improve, but I am not willing to throw him away like we have done to others.

Brad Green had plenty of opportunity today too, Tackle, Harrass and shepperd. But nearly every time he gave up straight away, was very dishearterning. In some cases he was already involed in the play, and he just stop's.

There is definately something wrong....

Green is a true leader of this club this year... The team plays poorly when he does and he plays well when the team does...

Wasn't in the group 2 years ago, decision was based purely on experience and has now backfired, how long will we be stuck with it?

The whole team got spanked captain included

Greenie can't be blamed for today's game. He was in a catch 22, if he goes up field to give more support around the midfield then we lose experience up forward, it was always going to be difficult to kick a winning score today against such a seasoned back line with the players we currently have.

Poor decision making player and coach, skill execution, laziness and the lack of second efforts cost us the game.

I'd like to see Gawn and Martin stay in the side when Jamar comes back, Use Jamar as the mobile around the ground ruck, with Gawn around the midfield and loose man in defence if needed. I think Martin could be quite a good forward player, he is certainly mobile enough to aid the forward press and can take a mark.

God Dees

Green can't be blamed for today's game as a whole, that's correct. He can and should be held accountable for what would have to be the poorest performance I have witnessed from a Melbourne Captain. He was exposed over and over again. He shat himself the moment the captaincy was handed to him. He and the leadership group need to be changed over at year's end. I cannot accept another year of him as captain. Let's get Trengove, Watts, Grimes, Moloney and Jamar to lead the team next year. I'll guarantee none of them would serve up what our leader served up today.

I haven't seen a single second of the game today. But I can tell you already that Green as a wingman doesn't work, no matter how bad he's going as a forward.

His best football has been, and always will be, as a forward.

Green for the biggest part of his career has been Soft. Over the last 2 or 3 seasons he showed regularly enough that he had changed and was putting his head over the ball. This year he has stopped putting in around the contested ball, and has reverted to becoming a reciever again.

He's Not leading by example, not doing any grunt work, and not showing the way. He's been MORE up & down than the team.

Brad may be shell-shocked, he has taken some huge hits over the years. Remember him taking a cruel pass from Jones? which resulted in bad facial injuries last year.

I've got to disagree with you, he was able to lead bty example around the Forward flank And pushing up the wings the last couple of years, and was still able to score reasonably well.. In short he was able to influence the flow of the game from the Mid zone.

His standing deep forward with his hands on hips isn't inspiring in anyway.

Thats right, and that lit up the whole team. We won that game with good examples of head over the footy. Not examples of Tea Pots.

pet peeve, when he runs past for the handball, the player instinctively gives it to him as a) he is the captain and B) that is how they are taught to play...always does it, never on!

secondly his tackling was poor today and his marking on the lead.

sit him in the forward line, forward flank is his role!

having said that all reports from people at the club is he is a great leader, and is vital in training and morale, just wish he could produce some consistent footy!

having said that, sylvia for mine, should be in the leadership group and captain, bleeds for the club, always chases and tackles, and every week looks like he is giving as much as he can every time

If only we had have traded Green for Jude Bolton a few years ago...

Some people just can't handle extra responsibility. Green was a fine footballer - perhaps he still is. But he's not a captain's toenail on the field.

He should show real leadership and stand down from the captaincy.

Give it to Sylvia who seems to consistently deliver inspirational effort when the chips (and the Chip - sorry) are down. He at least gut runs, harasses and tackles.

Wow, I hope that kind of hateful attitude doesn't hurt too much.

Over the summer 88% were all for Greeny as skipper. This year everyone has had a crack at him, myself included. Whoever mentioned earlier he cant take a pack mark is obviously on crack. Yes we need more from him but delivery was crap yesterday as the filth put pressure on our mids meaning our forwards had no chance. He certainly wasnt our worst yesterday. People calling for Col as skipper. Seriously kidding right. The man is a tad loose to lead one of the oldest clubs going round. VC yes but not the main job. Beamer, did anyone see him on the footy show last week. Not really who i want representing this great club. Lets just hope Greeny puts together some games like we all know he can. Hes the captain of our club so lets support for guy. The pies are the best in the business, we are about 8-10th best in the business and that showed yesterday.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
