let's remember this bloke missed several YEARS of footy battling his chronic injury, at 26.7 he is more like a 24 year old entering his prime in terms of actual match experience and also physically after staying free of injury for several years

Watched the game again. As flawless a game as a backman could play. Easily best on ground.

Jared Rivers played an amazing game on friday night he showed he still has amazing talent in him!

how good was the spoil that went at right angles about 30 meters out of bounds.

That was epic stuff. Absolutely dominant performance and if he keeps up that kind of form then who knows re AA consideration.

He has really struggled over the last few years, but he has had a very good season to date and an absolutely sensational night tonight.

Vintage Rivers.

I think for him it's all about having the right match up. He isn't very fast so he can't play on someone who will cut him up on the lead. I actually think he suits FB more so than CHB because when the ball is coming in high, he excels due to his ability to read the play.

Agreed Jaded, his best game for a while, I said the same to Big Red.

When you look at it though, Essendon played to his strengths, bombed the ball in and he was able to be third man up or stationary one on one. Unfortunately Jared cannot handle a leading forward. He wont enjoy playing on Cloke and Dawes.

Showed unquestionable leadership in the backline on Friday night, and really lead by example.

Outstanding game!

Cloke sure, but Dawes? One of them will stay at home - the flith a prety keen on the long kick forward. That will suit rivers.

i hate to say it, but the whole defense looked so much better without warnock, i think that everyone played their role in defense to a tee, and prevented any of the essendon forwards actually influencing the game. Rivers was exceptional in the air and i dont think he was out marked basically all night, nit picking, there was one spoil which if he went any direction but straight infront it would have been a win and a melbourne player would have got it, he spoilt it straight to an essendon player and they got a goal, having said that, rough because he won the spoil, and beat his opponent.

all in all, he is exceptional and has really stood up to the leadership role.

exceptional play by Rivers. i agree Dawes seems the likely opponent. Frawley for Cloke. Bartram for Didak or Blair if he resumes.

Absolutely. Although some here would be totally dismissive of it and refer to it as a one-off and still needs to be delisted.

I think the Rivers/Frawley and Cloke/Dawes match-ups will be intriguing to say the least. What about J. MacDonald ?

2024 Player Reviews: #36 Kysaiah Pickett

The Demons’ aggressive small forward who kicks goals and defends the Demons’ ball in the forward arc. When he’s on song, he’s unstoppable but he did blot his copybook with a three week suspension in the final round. 2024 Player Reviews: #1 Steven May

The years are rolling by but May continued to be rock solid in a key defensive position despite some injury concerns. He showed great resilience in coming back from a nasty rib injury and is expected to continue in that role for another couple of seasons. 2024 Player Reviews: #4 Judd McVee

It was another strong season from McVee who spent most of his time mainly at half back but he also looked at home on a few occasions when he was moved into the midfield. There could be more of that in 2025.
