To me Morton has always seems a bit of a down hill skier, who looks good when we are up and running. Reminds me of Embley who looked great in WC's good years and then disappeared when they were shite and not winning enough hard ball, but now looks great again when WC are up and running.

However a couple of Mortons better games have been against Adam Goodes when he has been given a specific role. So maybe a role against a Brendan Goddard this week may be something the coaching staff could look at. Although there is always a chance he run BG back into form...

I remember that Bulldogs game as quite a good game(maybe his best), but just because you rack up a ton of disposals playing loose across the backline, doesn't mean you have impacted the game in a positive way, as your own stats will atest to. Which is why i rate the Sydney games as better.

seconded, he never had an opponent in these matches, and was playing loose across the backline, in a losing team, where the ball was in our forwardline alot, you would think a loose man would get alot of the pill.

Yes I agree stats can lie, but he still played very well in all 3 and in that Sydney game. Yet if it was so easy to rack up stats a lot of players would do it, but they can't. I just cant see how you came to the conclusion that Morton down hill skier. I would question many other things about his game before this.

Maybe downhill skier is a bit harsh, but as i was eluding to with Embley, i think he will look better when we have a team with a harder edge that wins much more ball around the game which can allow him to play that outside game and flourish. If he had of played in the Crows game last week , he probably would have had 25 and 3 goals.

Gawn in for Dunn. We cannot win without a specialist tap , and it sounds as though big Max excelled in that direction. He MUST play next week in the ones.

I went today and Howe, Mckenzie, Lawrence, Gawn and Blease all impressed me. Honestley with all our injurys and suspensions I'd be happy to see anyone who's playing well In the 2's get a call up. Howe, Blease, Gawn, Evans have all fetured In the best latley.

As for Morton... I cringed a couple of times today when he could have bodied the ball and chose not to. His disposal was mostly wastefull too.

Morton should stay in the magoos until he has confidence, is getting physical and is dominating.

I'm not convinced about Cale Morton yet. He got the ball but some of his disposals weren't clean and got teammates into trouble.

Sam Blease is improving and has blistering pace but needs to use that pace when he doesn't have the pill. This is something he will learn and when he is able to use that pace to tackle and exert pressure on opponents then he will become a very handy player for Melbourne at AFL level.

If anyone is interested (and I'm sure KC will be) the reserves thrashed a very young Cranbourne team. I don't have the details but it was apparently not a particularly tough workout for the Casey boys. Pity because, as KC alluded to above, Casey twos have a bye next week and therefore a few players will miss some valuable match practice.

I agree Jack. Leave them there to compete with one another, and to see if they can lift the standard a bit. Leave morton for anothe 3 weeks.

He's got talent, but is so disappointing. Will not go in. Last qtr today I saw sprint for almost the first time I can remember (Once), and later put a hip bump on in the pack. Keep him there to keep doing these things until there part of his game.

Can't wait to see Jordie back. He's criminally underrated in the footy world and will add a hell of a lot to our midfield when he gets back (although it could take a few weeks to reach peak form a la Frawley).

Should we bring in Gawn next week? Yes, he's not ready. Yes, he won't provide much around the ground. But it was cringe worthy watching Newton in the centre bounces yesterday, and I reckon a 208cm giant will win a number of taps against AFL standard ruckmen. Comfortably.

The kid is 18yo has missed last year with an ACL. He has struggled at Casey 1sts. And even at 208cm, if he does not know how to position his body, he will be useless.

That's a good point. Also, I thought we picked Morton to be a key position forward (eventually). Anyone know why that hasn't been tried yet? Didn't bulk up enough?

And aso use cool stats that show how many possessions a player got in a losing side which without doubt

proves that the player had an IMPACT on the game...

morton needs toughness, he is 6ft whatever and his disposal nor pace means he wont be a gun outside midfielder.

Needs to play key position or midfield with a bit more grunt.

Lucky Robert Flower was not starting out nowadays. "Too skinny, will only ever make it as an outside receiver" the cry would be.

Morton played almost every game possible over his first two seasons, and teams cant be made up entirely of Moloney/Jones type players.

Given our lack of depth in midfielders with (somewhat) experience, you'd think he'd come in for a crack this week.

We've seen Cale slot goals from 55 metres out in the AFL. Yesterday he was fluffing kicks at VFL level.

It's understandable that we are all so divided over Cale Morton. Until he get some confidence back and is kicking it like Trent McKenzie, I don't want him in the firsts.
