Green and Watts on the footy show

Featured Replies

Well he was voted by his peers to be the best possible replacement for Junior.

Technically, I don't know that that's correct. My understanding is that the players voted for a group, a short list, and the actual captain was selected by the FD and board from that.

Difficult to find someone to replace Junior. With the benefit of hindsight, his quiet worth on and off the field is perhaps becoming more appreciated.

Like a bunny in the headlights.

And we would all do a better job of it.

i wouldn't want to do it, that's why i am worried for Brad. I hope he is getting a lot of assistance on the side.

If it is just a break out game he needs, then great, but his kicking for goal has been right off this year. Would have been great if he had kicked the winner against the swans-That would have helped him

You're right.

But still, my second point still stands.

You're right about Junior, too. To say that we need him out there now would be an understatement.

Reading this from Vegas and was always concerned about Green being captain...

Watts was good on telly when he was drafted, and I think he took the rocket he was no doubt given and performed well against the eagles.

We have to face facts - We are stuck with Green as captain until he hangs up the boots.

Watts is too young for me to say this, but I'd hit that  *shameful*

Now now, we all know violence doesn't solve any thing :-)

He has been at the club since 2000, and was not even in the leadership group 2 years ago...i am concerned that Greeny is not a leader, and should just play footy.

Being Captain is a huge job, you must be mentally tough as do it. It's not a slur, i am just concerned.

Neitz struggled as Captain in his first couple of years and he had been at the Club a number of years before that. Relax.

No the players select the captain and leadership group under a system set up some years ago by the FD.

Junior would have been his usual selfless inspiration. However he could never make up for the almost across the Board leadership vacuum provided by most of our senior players this year. At times in games last year, the lack of leadership was an issue with or without Junior.

Probably unfair considering these blokes will have been sent out to fly the flag for the club.

Still I partially agree and in that I really don't want to hear too much more from the players or coach at the moment.

Fair assessment. Particularly on such a puerile and cringeworthy show like the Footy Show.

I can't believe I sat through some bogan with infected finger nails pointing to his moronic tattoos just so I could listen to Brad Green say everything we've already heard.

Just being a good and supportive fan Cudi!!!

.....And Jaded, no need to be ashamed, really B) !!!

Does it matter if a captain 'does good tv' or not? How many times have you seen Glass, Cassisi, McVeigh, Boyd etc on TV. I'd rather they lead by example on and off field, not necessarily on camera.

Junior was obviously quite media shy and not a 'personality', didnt stop him being a great leader.

Of course the problem for Green at the moment is he isnt showing great form or leadership on the ground, I might add.

At least the well bred middle class was able to get in some good Footy Show bashing.

Some of you are more obvious than shows you label lame.

Very sad.

I'm not going to apologize for having an IQ above 40

Great call DD............on field is where the real talking is done. Green is serviceable in the media.......that's all he needs to be.

We need him being a captain on the field more!

It’s been a season of grit, growth, and glimpses of brilliance—mixed with a few tough interstate lessons. Now, with finals looming, the Dees head to Kardinia Park for one last tune-up before the real stuff begins.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
