Newton for Martin (I hate Newton but surely he offers more than Martin, especially with the new sub rule)

WTF?! :o

Martin has been excellent in the last two games. Great tap work, excellent ground coverage, good contested marking, good use of the footy. When has Newton EVER shown all that at AFL level?

And Newton wouldn't have been able to go down back and line up on Hale.

Dear god, if that change comes true I'm out.

Posted

Thought Martin continued on from where he left off last week... a 'keeper'. We need a few bigger bodies, therefore Wonna is a monty! (probably for Jetta) We won't slash and burn, so injuries will play a part. I thought I saw Tappy favour his hip considerably late in the game, Garland may miss. Jones could have a cracked rib or two thanks to Mr Rioli (may give Gys his chance). I'd be interested in how Newton got his goals. If he played as a genuine CHF I think we need to consider him.

really living up to your name there, that is the seasons greatest clanger comment

Stef has been one of our best so far this year

Looks like Garland out, so Macdonald will prob be straight swap.

OK, that was very frustrating to sit through, And depressing after.

Issues: Our tall forwards are Not aggressive enough at the footy. Medium forwards are ok. Smalls are learning. We need some size and aggression to attack the contest. The Talls must lead the way,,, Jurrah.... Dunne.

Who: Bate? Newton? One, needs to come in

Replacements for Jetta or Maric. Drop them both so they can compete with one another @ Casey, for the one position going forward. >

I agree now with the call to Bring in Wonnaemirri, (forwardline pressure and some power),,, plus Gysberts who can help linkup the play, plus add some height.

Injuries: (Garland, Inj) for McDonald...

I see why Trengove isn't switching with Grimes yet. He's not strong enough, Yet.

Jetta out- People are fooled, he doesn't have pace and he doesn't have work ethic.

Maric out- Poor last week. Had the opportunity today to come on and put himself right in the thick of it- didn't. He should have at least been tearing into packs and laying tackle after tackle but he didn't. He is too lazy. Gone and never to return.

Garland out only if injured.

Wona in.

Gysberts in.

MacDonald if Garland out.

Morton will need match practice at Casey first.

I don't think your fitness is impacted greatly by a broken finger.

He would have kept up his running one would assume, and is generally supremely fit and has great aerobic capacity anyway.

If the finger is good, then straight in.

Yeah right. There is nothing in what he says that inspires. The team would start a qtr, any qtr better if he did. I'm yet to see one since he's been in charge.

Worse sides than us play better from a coaches inspiration.

Biggest throwaway line ever. Ridiculous claim that is impossible to back up.

How would you know whether he inspires? I've seen teams with the supposed "great" coaches put in worse performances.

Wonna for Jetta

Do you even watch the games?? Martin has performed very well in rounds 1 & 2, no one in their right mind would drop him.

Next you will be saying GAWN for Jamar!!

Meh... I think he makes bad decisions with ball in hand, can't kick and jumps under the footy too much. Hale dominated us tonight. I know it wasn't just Martin's fault but it's just my opinion... Don't get your knickers in a knot

Outs: Maric, Jetta,

Ins: Gysberts, Wonaemirri

If Garland is injured then Newton in to play as forward/follower with Martin to defence.

And yes I have resisted the temptation to drop most of the 22 involved in the 3rd quarter embarrasment.

We need to add some speed into the midfield, besides Davey we are one paced. The next two weeks are ideal to bring in Gysberts, Aussie and Blease.

Push Bennell into the midfield bring in Aussie for the small forward and Blease as someone that can break lines. So for next week

In Gysberts, Aussie, Blease

Out Jetta, Garland(injury),Jones

IMO we need more size into the team and some more tenacity.

It might be time to bring in Newton. We play the Lions and then the Suns. This would be a good time to give him a run. We need someone who will present @ CHF.

My changes:

Wonnaemirri in for Maric.

Gysberts in for Jetta.

McDonald in for the inj' Garland.

Newton in for Watts. (Watts to Sub.)

I didn't see too many problems with players individually today, aside from Grimes kicking, Jurah not trying to get the front position, and Maric providing nothing (but came on in a bad time). Individually we did not lose it. The problem is the game plan.

The game changed when Hawthorn put some serious pressure on in Melbourne’s back half. Training reports said that we have not practiced against forward pressure all summer. When 16 other teams are playing this way, is seems absurd that we would not practice against it?

So one change for me - Bailey.

(I wrote this in anther thread)

Melbourne have had the same problem for at least three years, they struggle to find a target when the forward pressure is on. The players do not move enough, it seems that they have been told where to stand, and are sticking to it. Every player growing up would have learned to run to space, and it seems that this has been coached out of them.

Melbourne’s game plan was practiced over summer. From the training reports it seems that we only practiced our game plan, and did not practice how to combat the opposition’s game plan. It seems like three years ago a game plan was developed, and we are trying to master it. The game has changed, and we haven’t. Poor coaching.

Maric must go. He is useless. But worse than that, he doesn't even look like he's trying. He looks totally lost when he doesn't have the ball. He can't keep up. He should have been fine fitness wise after playing just a half, but he didn't seem any quicker than the Hawthorn defenders. I don't buy the argument that he needs more time, I've seen enough to know he hasn't improved at all. He offers us little that we can't get from Wonaeamirri, and I know Wonna will put more in.

Out: Maric, Garland (injured)

In: Gysberts, MacDonald

Jones, Bennell and Jetta are all on the chopping block. Scully, Morton and McKenzie have their spots lined up for the taking.

You know things have hit rock bottom for Melbourne supporters when Newton's name is being floated around repeatedly.

I thought it might take us a bit more time than this, but what the hell it's round 2, we haven't won a game yet, Grimes can't kick and Scully is leaving, so BRING BACK NEWTON.

I say what the hell. Give Juice the call up and plonk him in the square.

Can he do any worse?

You have my vote and whats more he would be the only one in our forward line for half the game as the rest are way over the centre.

In the last quarter Maric gets the ball at the 50 metre mark there is no one in front of him.

His only option is to get around two Hawthorn players.

Beats the first one then has to try and kick around the second which he does, with an ounce

of luck it would have been a goal but a point.

By the time all this has played out there is still no Melbourne player futher forward than the 50 M line.

Off track a little but I do not understand this all in one half action

Numerous times today Hawthorn had 4 players in our forward line and not one demon in sight.

could it be worse with Juice in the square!

The Demons’ aggressive small forward who kicks goals and defends the Demons’ ball in the forward arc.
