Brent Moloney Appreciation Thread!

Featured Replies

It's more about sending the right message to the whole group, including a tough stance on the leadership group.

I reckon he's been punished enough, honestly, he was held up to the media spotlight and embarrassed in front of the whole country. Enough's enough, give him back the title. Been our best player by miles this year, surely heading for his first B&F.

Give him the bloody captaincy far as I'm concerned. I do think that they should be careful about sending the wrong message regarding player behaviour, but given the current leadership crisis we are in, Captain for me.

I don't think at this stage it's important for him to have it, he's still leading (arguably better) and doing all he can to prove he wants back in. But what I think is more important is for the club to hold a strong stance on what is and isn't tolerated. A mid-year recall, after a starring queens birthday performance :), is what I'm tipping.

I was always a bit resentful of that Thompson/pick 13/Moloney trade, but after 6 years, he's become the better player. I love the passion he has for the club.

Thats it, he are getting what we want from him atm, let him sweat on it for more than a month or so.... maybe mid-year maybe later

Really its just a title for Moloney nothing else, dont see what the rush is for him to be given it back

lets see him have some ripper games when jamar isnt giving him an armchair ride

then he will be a star, gone missin a bit since jamar has gone down

25 touches last week, with out jamar.

I don't think beamer is giving us enough but he certainly has mates that aren't performing....

Beamer has only played well against the lower ranked sides.

He's not giving us similar performances against higher ranked teams.

Losses

17 Disposals against Hawks

18 Disposals against West Coast

16 Disposals against North

15 Disposals against Blues

25 Disposals against Saints

wins

27 Disposals against swans

36 Disposals against Lions

32 Disposals against Suns

31 Disposals against Crows

Yep,that would be pretty standard across most of the competition. If the team is travelling well you get some more outside ball to add to the ones you go and get yourself. I think Beamer puts in every week. There's plenty of players that you could ask more from but in my opinion, Beamer isn't one of them.

he also misses Jamar, three loses without the russian will also impact upon Moloneys disposal

thanks - always believed he was below par without jamar as he doesn't spread that well to recieve uncontested footy

another one of our leaders with inconsistency

Interesting though, how our best contested ball and clearance winner is very good in our wins yet poor in our losses.

It almost seems like there's a correlation between our ability to get our hands on the footy and our ability to implement our gameplan to win games of footy.

Beamer isnt inconsistant IMO, he gives 100% every week and you get the type of performances that you expect from him week in, week out.

Inconsistant is more like Petterd, Maric etc. Gun's one week, hardly sighted the next.

Now just stop it!

It might also suggest that Moloney is playing a bit of a lone hand, and than when other players step up as contested ball winners, we might be able to cover for times that he is down and more consistently perform in the midfield...

Nah - I reckon they are all just soft.

We'll change that by sacking the coach.

At least this week we will get our future top midfielders all playing at the same time. Scully, Trengove (who was playing really well before the suspension), Gysberts and McKenzie.

Could you imagine us consistently losing contested possessions when they are 23/24? The opposition won't be able to just sit on one player like they currently do to Moloney.

Jeez... you might have something there.

But wait, wouldn't that mean that we actually have a gameplan..? Who'd have thought??!

I reckon it'll get better just having Skull and JT back in the side simply because of the danger they pose, especially Skull

I agree. I'm looking forward to the fact that we will at least know two of our players will be prepared to gut-run and make options. Welcome back boys.

Carlton seemed to run and spread against us. Carlton seemed to get plenty of uncontested footy. Especially in the second half.

We miss the run from blokes like scully and trengove (2nd year players)....I think this means melbourne aren't fit. Even Jim Stynes said it at the start of the year. We are obviously hurting with injuries but still not an excuse.

  • REPORT: Fremantle

For this year’s Easter Saturday game at the MCG, Simon Goodwin and his Demons wound the clock back a few years to wipe out the horrible memories of last season’s twin thrashings at the hands of the Dockers. And it was about time! Melbourne’s indomitable skipper Max Gawn put in a mammoth performance in shutting out his immediate opponent Sean Darcy in the ruck and around the ground and was a colossus at the end when the game was there to be won or lost. It was won by 16.11.107 to 14.13.97. There was the battery-charged Easter Bunny in Kysaiah Pickett running anyone wearing purple ragged, whether at midfield stoppages or around the big sticks. He finish with a five goal haul.

  • CASEY: UWS Giants

The Casey Demons took on an undefeated UWS Giants outfit at their own home ground on a beautiful autumn day but found themselves completely out of their depth going down by 53 points against a well-drilled and fair superior combination. Despite having 15 AFL listed players at their disposal - far more than in their earlier matches this season - the Demons were never really in the game and suffered their second defeat in a row after their bright start to the season when they drew with the Kangaroos, beat the Suns and matched the Cats for most of the day on their own dung heap at Corio Bay. The Giants were a different proposition altogether. They had a very slight wind advantage in the opening quarter but were too quick off the mark for the Demons, tearing the game apart by the half way mark of the term when they kicked the first five goals with clean and direct football.

  • PREGAME: Richmond

The Dees are back at the MCG on Thursday for the annual blockbuster ANZAC Eve game against the Tigers. Can the Demons win back to back games for the first time since Rounds 17 & 18 last season? Who comes in and who goes out?
