Crows to confront unsigned players

So he puts Walker on the spot and asks him. How is that going to help the situation? What happens if the player says "you have no right to ask this and I refuse to answer?" Is he going to do the same thing the doggies did with Aker and put them up in front of the entire playing group? Will he keep it private? How will he respond if they tell him that they are gone already?

Idiotic plan that can only harm relations with the players involved if you ask me.

In another thread discussing last night's future fund event, it states that Don McLardy told the audience that we (the MFC) have spoken directly to Scully and his management etc, and we respect Scully's decision to wait until post-season (or until he is ready). This is the best way to go about it IMO, as it let's the player know that the club respects him and his decision and that we trust him. This greatly enhances our chances of retaining him as we don't place any further pressure on him. There's a right way and a wrong way to go about things and i feel we are doing all we can to keep him and the rest of our players coming out of contract, but we're going about it the right way.

I reckon Neil Craig has a point. Why would you want this disruption on your club ALL year?

I guess being bitten last year would make them twitchy. I'm still not sure it's a good idea and I prefer being low key and making sure the players enjoy being around the club. Interesting how Geelong has taken that approach so far this year with the Bartel rumours.

Interesting approach taken by the Crows. As mentioned in the article on AFL.com, it might backfire just like Mark Thompson & Gary Ablett at Geelong.

Very delicate situation.

I for one would be very disappointed if the Dees took this approach with Scully or anyone else who wants to wait until the end of the season.

They're obviously gun-shy after the experience with Bock. And they clearly think Bomba was far too soft on Gazza - oh well!!

It's reasonable to ask that if they get an offer from another club, they let us know & give us a chance to counter it. That doesn't seem to have happened with Bock, perhaps because the club made it known that anybody talking to another club wouldn't get a game.

If you want someone to be trusting and truthful with you, you have to make it easy for them. Doing it the way the Crows suggest makes it just about impossible.

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
