MFC training @ Inverloch 15/2/2011

G'day Demonlanders, just joined your ranks today after watching the Demons training at Inverloch yesterday. A few observations:

this training/community camp is a huge travelling circus

there does not appear to be 1 general in command but rather a number of dedicated support people who make this happen and come together seemlessly on time

bailey does not adopt a large profile but is the centre of things

some of the local kids/players invited to join in all but the match practice drills, and loving it of course, and not letting anyone down it must be said

the whole session showed an emphasis on good clean kicking and ball handling with very few bloopers

all players look finely tuned and well cut and are rearing to go, why wouldn't you be at this time of year

wona is trying hard to catch up with the rest of the group running lap after lap at a punishing clip

dunn and mac also running laps

trengove did not join main group

scully there early did not strip for training

some impressive looking young kids who i did not recognise

watts had a terrific session, involved in everything, vocal and in some drills marshalling his forward line with barks of instruction and encouragement

tapscot looks fantastic, ready to go i would think, but can he play at this level?, we will know soon enough

green setting the pace in run throughs

maloney and jones solid but quiet

blease being groomed for the backline

warnock looks in great shape

bartrum moving well and no kicking clangers

grimes had a good session and was vocal

martin looks fantastic but seemed troubled, no, annoyed with right hamstring

jurrah seemed to cruise through the whole session, no critisism probably just the way thoroughbreds look in work

bate trim and fast in drills

sylvia looks a class above everyone else in everything he does

The session began at 9.30am, I came away at 11am feeling very positive and from my observations 2010 to 2011 at this time of year it looks as though the whole group have risen from vfl to afl, bigger, harder, faster etc.

Anxious for the real thing to start

Great to hear those things about Bate and Warnock.

For me, Bate has always seemed a bit slow, so hopefully this year he can prove that he isn't.

A fit Warnock is very important, especially since Frawley's gone down. Hope he can prove that he belongs in the best 22 when Frawley's back.

Was Petterd training?

I don't think he will be up to Frawley's versatility but he has handled some very good opposition in the past and if he continues to improve with the rest of the group he should make our 22

Petterd was there, but did not stand out to me. For one of the last drills they split into 2 groups of 2 each group at opposite goal ends, I saw him pull on a green top for match play drills but did not notice him in my half of the ground.

Thanks for the update. Was Jordie McKenzie training?

Thanks for that. Did Scully do anything other than just turn up? Since the all the media controversy, it appears he hasn't trained ,hasn't played, hasn't said anything and this knee soreness is being reported very low key.

He's already training with GWS so he doesn't want to get fatigued.

What do you want him to say, he has knee soreness that's it, why do you have to look for some hidden agenda every time his name is mentioned.

Great to see the rest of the group up and running with only a few on the injury list, not like it's been over the last couple of years. I could never understand how we could be in pre season training with 10 or more injured players at this time of the year, thank goodness we are travelling better now.

Looking forward to seeing Tapscott and Blease contribute to the team I have high hopes for both.

Scully was mingling while the group were preparing for training but disappeared when the action started.

G'day wacker, on a more or less unrelated topic - How have IK been going of late?

While i don't follow the local comps closely, they seem to have the usual country footy club ups and downs, dependent mainly on good players moving around with employment etc. hard to keep a good group together for any period of time. i seem to recall they played finals last year. Their facilities are good enough and there was a very good turn out of locals at the ground yesterday.

What is your agenda here?

Why are you constantly trying to build up paranoia of Scully leaving?

Some idiot will read your rubbish and boo him at games and chase him out the door, when he has no intention of leaving.

You're doing GWS' work for them.

And further to this - if he did he take his tracksuit pants off, did he do it left leg first or right leg first - a really good indicator. Right left first is definitely the Melbourne way but left leg first is really a GWS trait.

Oh dear, can't even even ask legitimate questions about his training form without getting pecked at by ostriches. Stick to the topic please. There is another thread dealing with Tom's intentions. Does anyone know how his knee soreness is progressing?

Is there any likelyhood of Tapscott playing a pre-season game I wonder.

I promised I would not bite at your ongoing Scully campaign but this takes the cake .

You didn't ask a legitimate question what you did was make an implication that there was more to his situation than a low level knee complaint, in fact you were the one who went off topic. (for the record you said:Since the all the media controversy, it appears he hasn't trained ,hasn't played, hasn't said anything and this knee soreness is being reported very low key.)

Your Scully obession is reaching pandemic proportions and none of your suggestions would help the situation at all.

You have made your point in every 4th or 5th post on the subject so we know your views and there is no need to go on about it.

What I find puzzling is you have made some good contributions elsewhere on the site.

Do you know if this is a 1 or 2 week injury or indefinite. Sadly, silence on this matter only increases speculation.

Sure I.ve read somewhere that he's playing in the next NAB cup game

BS.

You know exactly what you were intimating.

he's right though, it's not helping my gut feeling either. Total silence and an instant withdrawl from the track. Probably means nothing but it certainly doesn't help.

The first sentence and the third sentence are diametrically opposed to each other.

To call them contradictions of each other is to give short shrift to the term.

You need to concentrate more.

You need to stop letting ADC and his ilk freak you out.

C & B....you need to lie down in a darkened room....get a wet cloth and place on your forehead.....close your eyes....every now and again whisper to yourself....I love footy....I love the Demons.....Scully will not leave......you will feel a whole lot better

In match play drills he was playing defender and as i said earlier looks in ripping shape, was moving well and has a good hoof. I didn't see any reason why he would not be given a run.

Relax - for now: Tom Scully, the man of the month, didn't train for Dees in Inverloch today. Minor knee soreness ... Did weights ... On track to play r2 nab.

  • PREVIEW: St. Kilda

It seems like only yesterday that these two sides faced off against each other in the centre of the continent. It was when Melbourne was experiencing a rare period of success with five wins from its previous six matches including victories over both of last year’s grand finalists.  Well, it wasn’t yesterday but it was early last month and it remains etched clearly in the memory. The Saints were going through a slump and the predicted outcome of their encounter at TIO Traeger Park was a virtual no-brainer. A Melbourne victory and another step closer to a possible rise into finals contention. Something that was unthinkable after opening the season with five straight defeats.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.
