Tough gig isn't it - with byes/subs and injuries.

Selwood - my best player - goes down in the fist quarter. 1 out of 11 is pretty big!

This year is a bit odd like that. I guess it will help those that can wheel and deal well to keep their team up to scratch.

Thanks JA & now the break down of the % column & I think I got it under control.

Bloody Neon Leons late withdrawal is going to hurt me this round.

I stuffed up with my forwards, now I am at least one player down this week. The Thursday night game killed me, normally you can check to see if your players are playing on Friday on the site and it only takes a second or two.

That hurts. But if you can sneak away with it this week, you'll love having him for the rest of the year...

I'd like to announce a guy I picked up as last pick in BOTH drafts this year for me... Shaun McKernan... even though he's only a forward on the list, he's kicking goals, getting touches and playing as backup ruckman racking up 10-15 hitouts.

Going to be a VERY good pickup. Might be interested in a trade when I need one too, since I already have Sandi...

Fear me people.... fear me. ;)

rpfc, gonna be an interesting day tomorrow.

I have got you on accuracy, hitouts, handballs and frees against... But you could catch me on all of the other ones.

No it wouldn't be!

I'm kidding.

He kicked 3 or 4 last year in a 73 point defeat. I'd be happy with that sort of return. Wouldn't you ??

If it happens again tomorrow I'll shout you 3 pints. 3.

im intimidated coming up against dappa dan, with sandilands in the ruck and mcevoy as his utilities, hit outs is a lost cause :|

Very happy to sneak a win JA. Also very happy that my round 2 draft pick, big dean cox is now the #1 ranked player in the comp. Now to work on the plan for RR

Poor effort from the Jackattacks in round 1, expect a tough week on the track.

Not sure what I was doing playing Petrie!

Hopefully he can't!

He did a little bit- congrats HT on your first WIN, very lucky although, due to Luke Powers being a late withdrawal, will catch up next time.

Happy to get away with the win in a tight contest with Old Man Rivers over the weekend. Love the way the scoring works ...

I am in the market or a ruckman though. Any trade offer will be considered ...

Well done Range Rover

It was a very tight tussle.

One defender short hurt me in the end once Leon Davis bailed.

Came down to 3 kicks - 1 Tackle - 1 accurate shot at goal.

Who would of thought Boomer Harvey would of had such a Barry Crocker

Look forward to the re-match

Cheers

OMR

Good trade for both of us there OldMan, nice doing business with you!

I can only imagine someone like Eddie Betts will have an absolute pearler the week i verse you though!!

A controversial trade has been accepted.

I fail to see how Robby Gray (proj;187, 2011avg;86) is a fair swap for Ryder (17,7).

I have voted against this trade, and I recommend other Demonland1 coaches do the same unless one or both of Robbo/SnomeD can convince us how this trade is fair.

Voted against too...

You can't allow someone who has lost interest in the game to give players up in easy trades just cos they don't care anymore. Robbo and SnomeD, feel free to rebut... Make your case.

Who has lost interest in the game and doesn't care ?

I'll wait to hear from both of them and their reasoning for the trade in question.

Btw, is scarlett around ? check your offers mate.

Robbie Gray has moved into the midfield this year.

I imagine it's just poor judgement in the case of whoever is giving up Ryder.

Was Ryder 17,7 before last weekend ?

His projected ranking won't change, is actual ranking was much lower for the start of the year but was bumped up considerably through the pre-season. You can check his actual average ranking from 2010 in the player section.

At a glance Snome D has two Ruckman left who will play - Hawkins & Graham

His forward line looks very thin

I can almost see his thinking

I will wait to hear the boys explanations before Voting

Not saying anyone has yet, but it's a common occurence. At certain points in the season people realise they can't make a meaningful shot at it... and they get convinced for whatever reason to make bad trades.

Absolutely.

He was always ranked in the top twenty in the pre-season.

Almost. But can't quite get there. Hawkins and Graham are list cloggers. Ryder is a UF matchwinner. You don't trade him for anything beyond about a 50th rank... and that's pushing it. Grey's just another player.

For sure. No-one's getting carried away here, but an explanation is called for.

Having done this once already last season, JA and I know that this only gets worse as the season drags on. We all have all week to come up with trades, and it's SO easy for the competition to get compromised. It's only our experience that's led us to raise the red flag here.

I'm a little surprised that the trade got vetoed without input from either robbo24 or snomeD.

It's my contention that on face value the trade of Gray for Ryder may seem a little slanted one way, but if there is a basis for a need-need trade between two teams, we should consider each coach's position on the matter.

I understand that there is actual and projected rankings, and in this case the rankings were different, but really they are both important players for their respective sides one a fwd (x factor), one a ruck. ie. one can kick goals, the other for hit outs and marks.

Is there room for a need for a need trade, or should all trades be considered ok just for their ranking similarities ?

I think it's worth discussing !

PS. I represent the UFPA..... :)

I'm new to this game, but that refusal of trade was the stupidest thing I have ever seen on a fantasy sporting comp.

I mean it is round 1 - we're not tired of the game.

And we are all psoting on a footy forum - we are quite committed to the sport in question.

There is little reason to veto trades when you have this dynamic.

That trade should have gone through.

  • PREVIEW: West Coast

Saturday’s election night game in Perth between the West Coast Eagles and Melbourne represents 18th vs 15th which makes it a tough decision as to which party to favour. The Eagles have yet to break the ice under their new coach in Andrew McQualter who is the second understudy in a row to confront Demon Coach Simon Goodwin who was also winless until a fortnight ago. On that basis, many punters might be considering to go with the donkey vote but I’ve been assigned with the task of helping readers to come to a considered opinion on this matter of vital importance across the nation. It was almost a year ago that I wrote a preview here of the Demons’ away game against the Eagles (under the name William from Waalitj because it was Indigenous Round).  I issued a warning that it was a danger game, based on my local knowledge that the home team were no longer easybeats and that they possessed a wunderkind generational player in Harley Reid who was capable of producing stellar performances playing among men a decade and more older than he.  At the time, the Eagles already had two wins off the back of a couple of the young man’s masterclasses and they had recently given the Bombers a scare straight after their Anzac Day blockbuster draw against the then reigning premiers.

  • NON-MFC: Round 08

Round 08 of the 2025 AFL Season kicks off on Thursday with a must-win game for the Bombers to stay in touch with the top eight, while the struggling Roos seek a morale-boosting upset. Friday sees the Saints desperate for a win as well if they are to stay in finals contention and their opponents the Dockers will be eager to crack in to the Top 8 with a win on the road. Saturday kicks off with a pivotal clash for both sides asthe Bulldogs look to solidify their top-eight spot, while Port seeks to shake their pretender tag. Then the Crows will be looking to steady their topsy turvy season against a resurgent Blues looking to make it 4 wins on the trot. On Election Night a Blockbuster will see the ladder-leading Pies take on the Cats, who are keen to bounce back after a narrow loss. On Sunday the Sydney Derby promises fireworks as the Giants aim to cement their top-eight status, while the Swans fight to keep their season alive. The Hawks, celebrating their centenary, will be looking to easily account for the Tigers who are desperate to halt their slide. The Round concludes on Sunday Night with a top end of the table QClash with significant ladder implications; both Queensland teams are in scintillating form. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons?

The Demons hit the road in Round 8, heading to Perth to face the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium. With momentum building, the Dees will be aiming for a third straight victory to keep their season revival on course. Who comes in and who goes out?

  • REPORT: Richmond

The fans who turned up to the MCG for Melbourne’s Anzac Day Eve clash against Richmond would have been disappointed if they turned up to see a great spectacle. As much as this was a night for the 71,635 in attendance to commemorate heroes of the nation’s past wars, it was also a time for the Melbourne Football Club to consolidate upon its first win after a horrific start to the 2025 season. On this basis, despite the fact that it was an uninspiring and dour struggle for most of its 100 minutes, the night will be one for the fans to remember. They certainly got value out of the pre match activity honouring those who fought for their country. The MCG and the lights of the city as backdrop was made for nights such as these and, in my view, we received a more inspirational ceremony of Anzac culture than others both here and elsewhere around the country.

  • CASEY: Richmond

The match up of teams competing in our great Aussie game at its second highest level is a rarity for a work day Thursday morning but the blustery conditions that met the players at a windswept Casey Fields was something far more commonplace. They turned the opening stanza between the Casey Demons and a somewhat depleted Richmond VFL into a mess of fumbling unforced errors, spilt marks and wasted opportunities for both sides but they did set up a significant win for the home team which is exactly what transpired on this Anzac Day round opener. Casey opened up strong against the breeze with the first goal to Aidan Johnson, the Tigers quickly responded and the game degenerated into a defensive slog and the teams were level when the first siren sounded.
