MFC Training

I don't know how to link but on the AFL site there are a lot of great photos of today's training.

There are a bunch of facebook.

Those who think Trengove was looking a bit on the heavy side, there's a decent photo of him and I think he just looks to be filling out nicely.

Howie has some good size about him too and I think he'll fit out quickly.

Cook looks like Watts when he came to the club.

Skinny kid, needs a good feed.

Troy Davis has the body to be playing round 1 by the looks of it.

Can we paste the pics in here or will that peeve Mr Slattery?

Actually it is hard to tell from these pics... anyone ever seen Davis in the flesh?

Liam Jurrah makes me smile no matter what he's doing.

Leaving that one alone... far, far too easy hahaha!

Dropped in briefly to watch training this morning with the idea of viewing the new blokes more than anything else. I was most impressed with Lucas Cook, who despite his light frame, contested well in the drills. Troy Davis and Tom McDonald are probably a bit overwhelmed at now being part of an AFL squad and I would suggest it might take them a while to acclimatize. Jeremy Howe was part of the rehab group so I was most disappointed that he wasn't flying around taking speccies at training.  :)

There were quite a few players in the rehab group and, of course, Aussie was missing.

I had to leave early so I couldn't ask any questions but a mate of mine told me that went to a lunch in the city where Barry Prendergast was a guest speaker and he did a fantastic presentation on how his team went about assessing prospective recruits for a draft. Given the selections he was working with, he said he was delighted with the outcome. He also went into previous drafts and how he researched players such as Rohan Bail whose selection my friend thinks he might be one of his proudest achievements. Also asked if Max Gawn was capable of getting an AFL game in 2011. Only if he can manage to build up his upper body to meet the demands of modern ruckwork.

Does anyone know when training moves to Casey Fields?

On Friday 10th Dec there is a training session at Casey.

It is also a bit of a Christmas Party. There is a BBQ and some stuff for kids.

I believe that even Santa will be there!!

They did the same last year and it was pretty good. Good chance to see the players for those that live down this way.

Maybe call the club in the morning though. Cause we cant really have closed sessions at AAMI. Unless they are inside of course.

Trengove is going to have a big year if his shape shift is any guide.

  • AFLW REPORT: Port Adelaide

Well, that was a shock. The Demons 4-game unbeaten run came to a grinding halt in a tense, scrappy affair at the sunny, windy Alberton Oval, with the Power holding on for a 2-point win. The Dees had their chances—plenty of them—but couldn't convert when it mattered most. Port’s tackling pressure rattled the Dees, triggering a fumble frenzy and surprising lack of composure from seasoned players.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Port Adelaide

The undefeated Demons venture across the continent to the spiritual home of the Port Adelaide Football Club on Saturday afternoon for the inaugural match for premiership points between these long-historied clubs. Alberton Oval will however, be a ground familiar to our players following a practice match there last year. We lost both the game and Liv Purcell, who missed 7 home and away matches after suffering facial fractures in the dying moments of the game.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmy’s inclusive banner—"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwood’s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.

  • CASEY: Frankston

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.
