Problem - help wanted!

Don't laugh at me - this could turn out to be a serious issue.

my lovely girlfriend is turning 21 on the 11th of sept next year. the first weekend of the 2011 finals.

given we play the gold coast on sunday on the 2nd last round, and then port adelaide away at a time yet to be determined, what is the best night for her to be looking to have her party given that i will want to go to the footy. She is so nice and lovely she will pick the night when we are least likely to be playing (what a woman).

of course this topic is completely null and void if we dont make the finals - a 50/50 proposition anyway.

i think friday would probably be the best night - they are unlikely to give us 2x 6 day breaks, although its the afl after all........

Call me old fashioned, but since when has having consideration for a girlfriend (or a wife for that matter) in any way impacted upon one's enjoyment/ viewing/attending of a football/cricket/or other sporting event?

Thread of the year...... for all the wrong reasons???

organize the party the week before. The MFC has been here with us since 1858, your GF a mere 20.

And who knows the future, you may not be together by september 2011 B) hehehe

I love all aspects of this post. :)

Tell her that the asians date ones birthday from the date of conception

That way you can have her 21st this December - well away from any finals - easy

Edited some atrocious mathematics

just how long is a pregnancy......

Yes! Isn't it wonderful. I don't have to worry about repartee or football knowledge, i can just be a MCP. ( Who knows what that means?)

Why? Worried?

By June next year there is going to be a lot of Bogan Collingwood Babies born, that will be an international Tragedy.

Benno, mate, take a step back and take a breath. This is shocking.

And it is a given that they will not know who their father is.

OK time to "Man Up". If it all comes down to it - is it the footy or the girlfriend?

Benno,

get a grip. This requires good planning. And as others have noted only worthwhile if she is the marrying kind.

1. If the party is on Saturday night, then there is no chance that the game will be played then.

2. If we are there, we could be playing interstate

3. Build up brownie points all through the year and claim them back at the most appropriate time, and let her suggest it ( ...I've been to every Demons game in the past ...years, and this is our first final that I could see....get the drift)

4. We might do better and win the first final..ergo another game the week after.

5. If all else fails, remember that we are unlikely to be playing in a GF next year. Save the brownie points for the big event when it comes.

Finally, remember the adage: Happy wife = happy life.

  • PREVIEW: St. Kilda

The media has performed a complete reversal in its coverage of the Melbourne Football Club over the past month and a half. Having endured intense criticism from all quarters in the press, which continually identified new avenues for scrutiny of every aspect, both on and off the field, and prematurely speculated about the departures of coaches, players, officials, and various employees from a club that lost its first five matches and appeared out of finals contention, the narrative has suddenly shifted to one of unbridled optimism.  The Demons have won five of their last six matches, positioning themselves just one game (and a considerable amount of percentage) outside the top eight at the halfway mark of the season. They still trail the primary contenders and remain far from assured of a finals berth.

  • REPORT: Sydney

A few weeks ago, I visited a fellow Melbourne Football Club supporter in hospital, and our conversation inevitably shifted from his health diagnosis to the well-being of our football team. Like him, Melbourne had faced challenges in recent months, but an intervention - in his case, surgery, and in the team's case, a change in game style - had brought about much improvement.  The team's professionals had altered its game style from a pedestrian and slow-moving approach, which yielded an average of merely 60 points for five winless games, to a faster and more direct style. This shift led to three consecutive wins and a strong competitive effort in the fourth game, albeit with a tired finish against Hawthorn, a strong premiership contender.  As we discussed our team's recent health improvement, I shared my observations on the changes within the team, including the refreshed style, the introduction of new young talent, such as rising stars Caleb Windsor, Harvey Langford, and Xavier Lindsay, and the rebranding of Kozzy Pickett from a small forward to a midfield machine who can still get among the goals. I also highlighted the dominance of captain Max Gawn in the ruck and the resurgence in form in a big way of midfield superstars Christian Petracca and Clayton Oliver.

  • POSTGAME: Sydney

The Demons controlled the contest from the outset, though inaccurate kicking kept the Swans in the game until half time. But after the break, Melbourne put on the jets and blew Sydney away and the demolition job was complete.

  • CASEY: Northern Bullants

The Casey Demons travelled to a windy Cramer Street, Preston yesterday and blew the Northern Bullants off the ground for three quarters before shutting up shop in the final term, coasting to a much-needed 71-point victory after leading by almost 15 goals at one stage. It was a pleasing performance that revived the Demons’ prospects for the 2025 season but, at the same time, very little can be taken from the game because of the weak opposition. These days, the Bullants are little more than road kill. The once proud club, situated behind the Preston Market in a now culturally diverse area, is currently facing significant financial and on-field challenges, having failed to secure a win to date in 2025.
