8 SACKS!!!!!

A TD that should have stood, A safety that may have been against us (WTF were you thinking Austin???)

Great defensive game, but wow, 8 sacks!

You're talking Crabtree's, right? Can you explain why that wasn't a TD? That ball definitely crossed the plane...

The Rams have beaten the niners & the Seahawks ... that's the great bit about the divisions in the NFL - all the teams within those divisions know the games of their rivals so we therefore often get a lot of close divisional matches. Great D today by the Rams.

Arizona is next for St Louis - the Cards had better be on their game for both their encounters.

I fancy the Colts tomorrow but they'll need to jump out of the blocks against the Giants.

I thought it was close, but thought the call was right (possibly bias tho)

Lauranutis fumble recovery should never have been blown dead, He was still moving. With all the reviews available they should let the play continue then review it.

It was lucky for the officials there was the fouls on the Austin return cod he wasn't out and they blew him out.

I think the cards will beat us confortably. We have 3 rookies in the secondary and it was only the fact the niners oline was poor yesterday that we did not cop more big throws.

With a couple more injuries we will be changing our roster again this week.

The Austin return was perplexing - guess just excitement more than anything but running sideways in the end zone, seriously? Sometimes I wonder if the players are fully aware of the rules around safeties (e.g. last week Luck was convinced it wasn't a safety when he was tackled but it clearly was).

The thing about you is you seem to play much better against the NFC West than anyone else. You played well against us, beat the Seahawks, then had a shocker against KC, then beat us.

Thoughts on today game ? I've backed the colts -7.5... Hopefully if I don't back a winner today the colts get me some coin

If only we could play any good against the rest of the comp.

And Dappa, picking those division winners, Conference match-ups and wild-cards is going to be hard work - I'll have a go in a day or so.

I'm gonna need til Thursday when the hangover wears off. These things take a fresh mind.

Well done Gorgoroth. Impressive win. Popular amongst Iggles fans too.

I think the cards will smack us this week.

But lets hope our D stays playing well and the offence can get going a bit this week.

Denver

Pittsburgh

Dallas

Sorry for the unoriginality.

It's not who you are tipping that's unoriginal so much as who you are tipping against! Jacksonville, Oakland and the Jets with a combined 1 win and what 20+ losses!

I'll wait a bit longer before tipping but I think that will be a pretty standard 3 this week.

That said the Jags might get a chance against the Cowboys. I just can't believe they'd play Romo off only 2 weeks rest with 2 fractured vertebra even if they are on TP fractures. And Oakland are playing ever so much better since they sacked the coach. I'll stay with P Manning off a loss to seek vengeance but Oakland surely get a win soon.

Steelers

Broncos

Cowboys....

Was tempted to tip my boys, but too much of a risk.. Think the bucs will be out for revenge after there humiliating round 3 loss

It's fraught with danger picking this so far out, but I'll have a go. Denver, New England and Indy should win their divisions. The AFC North should be a ripping fight to the finish. Cincy leads it at the moment but I have them missing the playoffs by half a game. That said, that changes quickly with one result. I'm usually pessimistic about the Chiefs, but at the moment I've got us scraping in. We were putrid in week 1 and lost three starters for the season that week. Since then, we've been desperately unlucky at Denver, led most of the game at San Fran, and won the rest, most in floggings. The team is playing very well. I'll out my final playoff seedlings below, but there's really only a game at season' end between 5 and 10, so this could look foolish in January.

1. Denver

2. New England

3. Indianapolis

4. Pittsburgh

5. Kansas City

6. Baltimore

As for the NFC, I'll give divisions to Arizona, New Orleans and Green Bay. Seattle has been poor but they're still 5-3 and surely can't play any worse. The East is up in the air with QB health a big issue. Here goes:

1. Arizona

2. Green Bay

3. Philadelphia

4. New Orleans

5. Seattle

6. Detroit

If Seattle can regain some old form, it's teed up for them there.

NFC Division winners

1 Arizona

2 Philadelphia

3 Green Bay

4 New Orleans

Wild-cards

5 Detroit

6 Seattle

AFC Division winners

1 New England

2 Denver

3 Indianapolis

4 Pittsburgh

Wild-cards

5 Cincinnati

6 Kansas City

Conference Championship games

Arizona vs Philadelphia

New England vs Denver

I fully expect to get a number wrong but I reckon Arizona are now going to be hard to displace from the 1 seed ... Seattle & San Francisco just aren't the same teams from previous years ... Green Bay is a biased pick and I reckon Dallas will drop off the pace unless Romo gets back fully fit. The Eagles should win enough games to get the 2 seed. Sanchez is in the right place at the right time and who would have thought he might be able to lead a team back to the playoffs so soon after being virtually written off?

In the AFC I reckon it's down to the 4 division winners and I've gone the safe way with the Pats & Broncos in the conference championship match-up ... couldn't find a spot for Buffalo, Miami & Chargers but most unlucky was the Ravens.

It's the most wide open for a long time and I don't believe there's one absolute stand-out team.

And Dappa, I'll leave it up to you to figure out all the points winners

My guess at this point:

AFC

1. New England

2. Denver

3. Indianapolis

4. Pittsburgh

5. Kansas City

6. Cincinnati

NFC

1. Green Bay

2. Arizona

3. Philadelphia

4. New Orleans

5. Detroit

6. Dallas

The season is too even to be picking with any confidence right now. Both Philadelphia and Dallas have soft schedules so either could top the division. Detroit has 4 winnable games (Bears x 2, Bucs and Vikings) which if they bank gives them 10 wins. Not sure Seattle is going to get there, they have a much tougher run and aren't playing well enought to give me confidence. 49ers will get players back on defence but that's not going to help us score points and it'll be too little too late to catch the other contenders for wild cards.

As for the AFC, three divisions are sewn up you'd think (West, East, South). I'll put Pittsburgh in for the win but if Big Ben fades from his current form watch out, they're not flawless (e.g. losing to Tampa) and all three of their division opponents are capable of pushing them not just off the top but off a WC spot too.

AFC Championship game is shaping up for a boring old NE v Denver match-up. In the NFC it's impossible to call. Green Bay for mine is the stand out but Arizona is playing really solid football and both Dallas and Philly can do the job against anyone. New Orleans is good at home but useless on the road, so write them off unless they finish 1st (which they won't).

Loser goes home tomorrow?

Yeah seems this week is simply

Denver, steelers and even without Romo you have to say the Cowboys.

Whoa. Dalton's stat line today: 10/33, 86 yards, 0 TDs, 3 INTs, and a QBR of 4.3! Huge win for the Browns' playoff chances.

Dallas

Denver

Pittsburgh

That loss today has got to dent the Bengals overall chances.

The Browns may well be more than nuisance value too ... Cleveland Rocks?

ps ... I've added the Elo ratings to the TV games post (above)

Oops forgot to put in my 3 guesses. One less game to work with.

Steelers, Broncos Cowboys. Same as everyone else. Can't go past them I spose.

  • PREVIEW: Fremantle

A month is a long time in AFL football. The proof of this is in the current state of the two teams contesting against each other early this Saturday afternoon at the MCG. It’s hard to fathom that when Melbourne and Fremantle kicked off the 2025 season, the former looked like being a major player in this year’s competition after it came close to beating one of the favourites in the GWS Giants while the latter was smashed by Geelong to the tune of 78 points and looked like rubbish. Fast forward to today and the Demons are low on confidence and appear panic stricken as their winless streak heads towards an even half dozen and pressure mounts on the coach and team leadership.  Meanwhile, the Dockers have recovered their composure and now sit in the top eight. They are definitely on the up and up and look most likely winners this weekend against a team which they have recently dominated and which struggles to find enough passages to the goals to trouble the scorers. And with that, Fremantle will head to the MCG, feeling very good about itself after demolishing Richmond in the Barossa Valley with Josh Treacy coming off a six goal haul and facing up to a Melbourne defence already without Jake Lever and a shaky Steven May needing to pass a fitness test just to make it onto the field of play.

  • NON-MFC: Round 06

The Easter Round kicks off in style with a Thursday night showdown between Brisbane and Collingwood, as both sides look to solidify their spots inside the Top 4 early in the season. Good Friday brings a double-header, with Carlton out to claim consecutive wins when they face the struggling Kangaroos, while later that night the Eagles host the Bombers in Perth, still chasing their first victory of the year. Saturday features another marquee clash as the resurgent Crows look to rebound from back-to-back losses against a formidable GWS outfit. That evening, all eyes will be on Marvel Stadium where Damien Hardwick returns to face his old side—the Tigers—coaching the Suns at a ground he's never hidden his disdain for. Sunday offers two crucial contests where the prize is keeping touch with the Top 8. First, Sydney and Port Adelaide go head-to-head, followed by a fierce battle between the Bulldogs and the Saints. Then, Easter Monday delivers the traditional clash between two bitter rivals, both desperate for a win to stay in touch with the top end of the ladder. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • REPORT: Essendon

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.
