How is anybody claiming Swallow has better endurance than Scully???? Didn't Scully pretty much break the beep test at AIS when he was in year 11???? I recall reading that they turned off the tape and just told him 'that'll do mate' because he simply wouldn't stop.

Calling Swallow as the best ever before he's played an AFL game just sounds like a continuation of the obsession with the new players being automatically better than the existing players because nobody's seen them make mistakes yet.

Apparently the DC official had to eject the tape and turn it over from side 'A' to side 'B'...weren't they the good old days.

Lynch/Darling could be pick #12 it seems.

Just imagine we could work out a way to get both these type players in this draft. (not necessarily those names in particular)

Pfft, Scullys poor kicking..... they go up and under a little but are generally on target and the boy runs flat out when he kicks it. Give it time to refine. Swallow floats them a little also- I can't believe people are saying they'd swap him.

He needs to continually work on it but by no means it is poor. As for Swallows kicking, its more like Scully then Daniel Rich. And no one has Scully's engine.

Well at least i have one reason to watch the GC this year- Swallow. I'll take note of his endurance and his hands, also his ability to set up play and his general football brain. For people saying they would swap, you'd be hopeing for a BOG straight up!

He's also a big wrap for Gysberts. Understandably after his performances in limited games this past season.

It's interesting to see BP's take on it is a bit different.

Of coarse it's different to yours bc, no offence, but your observations that this draft is a kind of 'super' draft don't seem to be based on any strong evidence, while the more reasoned opinions would suggest that this draft, if anything, would probably be slightly weakened by (i) the fact that 17 years olds from last year (Suns) and this year (GWS) have been already pillaged and (ii) 2 top 20 picks have been taken as father sons. That would explain why Prendergast feels that this draft might be slightly thinner on top end elite talent than previous 2 drafts.

From what I've been reading of snippets from several AFL recruiting manager, this draft appears to have good depth, with a lot of evenness of players from pick 4-15.

That bodes well for us to pick up a ripper at 12.

But, as Prenders points out, we'll only know for sure how well each draft is in a few years time.

I'm glad Prenders is so happy with the Gysberts pick. Considering those picked around him (Melksham, Lucas etc), i believe we've snared the best of the lot. I'm still happy with Tapscott, but Fyfe picked up only 3 picks later looks an absolute beauty.

Besides, each of them now has 18+ games built in. Why would you swap that?

hehehe ... but BP would probably be first to admit, not even full-time recruiting staff could expect to get it right every time. Plus you would be amazed at where they have their "sources" tucked away.

Scully, as much as I am enamoured with him, will likely not be as good as Swallow.

But it depends on the evolution of the game. Scully's run and agility may become even more damaging.

Different style of players, but at this stage I'd do a straight up swap in a heartbeat.

In what way was I being incredulous? My response to the suggestion of the swap? Well, yes. My response to you? I wouldn't have thought so. It was probably more sarcastic considering I had read your response in regard the aforementioned group in this thread.

As I said previously, I used the Voss, Buckley, Hird example in response to the call to swap, after that and am comfortable enough with that.
