Good interview.....mentioned Luke Tapscott (amongst others) after KB asked him if Luke would have time to play seniors this year. Bails said, 'he might', that he would have to work hard and play some pretty good football to get a game.

Nothing to be gleaned other than he basically intimated what we all know, in that Trengove will come into the side this week.

Hard to say when we're pushing for the 8 and Trengove, Moloney, Bate, Warnock et al are not in the team.

With Tapscott, he said what he had to say, which is that if he plays well he'll come under consideration. At the moment, as he said, we have a lot of players doing well at Casey, and I'd say that, in no particular order, Trengove, Moloney, Maric, Warnock, Bate and Cheney are all ahead of Tapscott in the pecking order.

Warnock, Cheney and Bate arent competing with Tapscott for a role. And their chances of selection may have no bearing on who gets selected. And the pecking order for Maric could completely change within one week of Casey footballer.

Trengove looks a monty for this week. Beamer has missed 2 to 3 weeks and may come back through Casey for fitness.

I tend to disagree. I would have thought that if we lose another game before round 22 and we are no longer in finals contention, then Bailey will give Tapscott a run. It would be an invaluable for him. I would also expect to see Fitzpatrick get a run.

But half of your pecking order is not playing for Tapscott's potential role. And the selection of one or more of Cheney, Warnock and Bate may not have any bearing on Tapscott's opportunities. The pecking order is a bit of a misnomer excluding Beamer and Trengove.

As for Tapscott ? Bailey mentioned his great kicking, physically mature build and that he's a "real in and under" player. I doubt he's competing with Bate or Maric. I see him as a robust high half forward/midfielder.

Competing with the likes of Sylvia, Dunn types ? (High half forward/midfield type...)

I am getting the feeling that Tapscott will bring something new to the team. I am pretty sure that we do not currently possess nor have for a while of a player with his types of playing qualities and attributes. Maybe a young Colin Sylvia when he played predominately forward?

Let's go back to before the Lions game. We made the change that had to happen (McDonald in, unlucky for Maric), who else would you have left out for Trengove?

What you really are struggling to come to terms with is the fact that Trengove is a first year player. Regardless of how mature his body is, he is still a kid, and he had not played football for 3 weeks. It is common knowledge that the pace of the AFL is far superior than the VFL, so why would you throw this kid in and battle his way through 4 quarters, as opposed to what they did and got him to play around 80% of confidence-building football.

With the amount of rotations in the AFL, and given Jack's role in that, it would have been lunacy playing him in the seniors. You can get away with playing that style of game at Casey (where players are expected to play less than 100%), but in the AFL, you need all of your players in a position that they can play 100% of the game at 100% effort. I think it would have been unfair to expect JT to do this. As it turned out, he played as good as we expected him to at Casey, and will be right to go this week. Also, we won without him, so it was a great decision by the Club - I think you need to suck it up and move on.

JT will be a star for Melbourne for a long, long time. Why push him in his first year? List and injury management is vital with the development of these kids, as well as the senior guys (ie James McDonald).

We will still be in contention if we lose a game before Round 22.The other contenders have tough draws. Our game against North in Round 22 will be a battle for 8th spot -- if we can win 2 of our next 3.

I tend to agree. Our finals hopes also hinge on the performances of the teams currently above us, so it's not just a matter of us winning games.

If we are no longer mathematically able to make finals, that would seem like the right time to throw a player like Tapscott who is playing well at Casey in for token games.

Although, with Tapscott is there any minimum number of games he has to get to to be eligible for VFL finals?? Or is it a maximum threshold of AFL games that disqualifies players from VFL finals?? My point being I would like to see Tapscott playing VFL finals with the other young kids, great to have those guys playing footy together at any level.

Doesn't mean that they will play it, but players that are 100% fit would hacve the capacity to play 100% if erquired. Trengove wouldn't have been in that category.

I personally think the Football Dept made the right call, and if I were in that position, I would have made the same decision. Would even consider Moloney coming back through Casey this week, although he is a better chance of coming straight back in due to the fact he is a lot more seasoned.
