Um....and what's your point or are you making three different points or are you just replying to me disagreeing with Gysberts disposal? Can't quite follow! Hopefully Gys can work on his disposal using socks in his bedroom while watching on TV!! If you think 2 weeks not playing football at all can improve this, outside of his rolled up socks.....

There's been a deep seated apathy that has permeated this club for decades. Unfortunately, most Melb supporters I've met sound exactly like you and needless to say I don't warm to them. They're often very nice people, but they know jack [censored] about footy.

Hannabal finally I agree with you 100% on that fact and any REAL passionate demon would say the same. I get a feel that I am a bit younger than you (35) but I have certainly seen enough in that time to not want to accept second best or false dawns. I am also well aware that outside of a few players, we have had a heap of limited battlers at best, that I wont name but imagine you know what I mean. I am sure if you've ever had the pleasure of sitting near me at a game your opinion would quickly alter.

The club as a whole has done a great job to turn a lot of this around but at the end of the day it comes down to performances on the field and this current crop of kids and potential talent IMO really do have a fair bit riding on their shoulders as if we dont make every post a winner over the next decade, the club could be in a vary precarious position. The apathy you refer to I agree with also and it is has a hell of a lot to do with why this club has been on it's knees.

I guess that is why I may be coming across as an apologist because I am seeking to find the positive for the majority....sorry about that

Have a closer look. Miller was completely at fault.

By the way, I'm no apologist for Watts. I reckon he could easily have been dropped (though the supporter in me wants to see him persisted with). He's frustrated me as much as he's excited me this season, and I think he has some serious deficiencies that it looks like will keep him from being considered with the Riewoldts/Buddys.

In this case though, Miller was IMO clearly at fault.

Miller's complete inability to take a contested mark or to use his body strenght to advantage means what you are saying is irrelevent. Anyway hes hardly Jonathan Brown himself in the courage stakes.

Your comment is a bit vague, but if you think that I swing with the breeze and make player assessments on whether we win, or lose then you couldn't be further from the truth.

Alternatively, I suspect you're saying that I only want what is played out on the field to be recorded and not have any mitigating circumstances discussed, i.e. experience and age of the player; whether a player is coming back from injury; whether they're still adjusting to the tempo of senior footy; what development mode they're in; if they're playing a new position on the ground; taking into account the quality of the opposition; etc. It's obvious that there can be a myriad of reasons why a player plays in a certain way and there are certainly appropriate times to make mention of these. I don't plan on prefacing every comment with the circumstance of each player, as most will be obvious.

Why does plain speak offend so many ? Don't assume that one isn't aware of the circumstances of a player just because reference to said circumstance isn't constantly referenced. A case in point is Freak saying that Gysberts disposal was "shabby" against Collingwood. It was, but someone immediately felt the urge to come to the defence of the young player as if he'd been vilified. The over-reactions and constant excuses made by some are nauseating.

Hannibal you give me no choice but to immediately respond again as it was I that responded about Gysberts shabby disposal....now I won't get personal but I really do suggest that you and freak and whoever else want to use that as an informed judgment for him to be dropped, do your homework.

Gysberts had two kicks against Collingwood.....TWO!! So I would have thought it would be somewhat difficult to judge with much certainty that his disposal was shabby. I remember clearly one of those kicks where he was swung in a tackle so that leaves a single kick that you and Freak have based this on. For the record he had 8 handballs. As I stated he was quiet in the game as Collingwood applied a hard tag on him. I would imagine Collingwood did this because his 10 & 13 kicks the previous two weeks on top of his 17 & 13 handballs were quite effective, so much so that he earned 103 super coach points against Geelong (where shabby disposal can cost points) and a rising star nomination against Carlton.

I don't think Freak's assessment on Gysberts was based on the Collingwood game alone when referring to he's disposals. Personally, i think part of the reason is for him to work on other areas of the game. Being more accountable being one of them.

Where did I say that he should be dropped ?

He had a quiet game, but I didn't care whether he got dropped or kept his spot. It's the future that is the concern for Gysberts and they'll get games into him as they see fit. If he gets promoted I'll back their judgment and if he gets dropped I'll back their judgment. There was no care factor for me.

Disposal is an area of his game that he definitely needs to improve and I'm sure he will.

Yep ok, not much doubt I am.

What else is it based on then? It cant be the other 2 games he played and of course there are areas of his game to work on. He has played half a dozen games of senior footy.

Scull & JT have areas to work on too as any young kid does and from my side I would suggest that Skull has to work on his disposal just as much as Gys does. The fact that Gys now plays no football for 2 weeks leaves him with nothing to work on in a game environment.

Counter productive to what is meant to be a learning year. If he was at Richmond I would guarantee he would be playing this week and I believe it is a short sighted decision.

Gysberts will stay too. 2 out of 3 good games ain't bad.....
