importance of next match

I think the next match is very important-as important as any this year from now on.

Our interstate record is bad. We've regularly lost to inferior teams at AAMI or Subi [the record in Sydney is not so bad] Daniher's game-plan didn't work in Perth and Adelaide where the grounds are longer.

It's vital that the kids in our team adopt a mentality that all games are winnable--as they are. N.M has a good record interstate even though its home ground is Docklands. We must get it right or we can never aspire to top 4 status.

I reckon our average losing margin at AAMI must be at least 70 points. I remember that no matter where Melbourne, Adelaide or Port sit on the ladder, we will always receive a drubbing at AAMI.

It's frustrating.

I remember that night, Schwarz taps to Leoncelli who runs in and kicks the winning goal in the driving rain. Geez that was a lifetime ago now. Shocking record.

A lifetime indeed that game but a good memory!! I was only into the start of a relationship with my wife when we watched that great game together....we've since had two kids and not got within 10 goals since!!

Cool finish that goal by Leoncelli I will add ;)

If your a punter you take the plus 39.5 when the Dees go to Adelaide every day of the week!!

This is a great thread and I hope the extra week gives the FD ample time to get us up for this one, Crows are in awful form and we should be capable of winning this. The shocking interstate record we have can start to be turned around with this game and the kids will have a platform for the future, North is a great example of taking over a winning mentality interstate regardless of talent, ladder position etc.

I really would love to see us win more than we loose on the run home and this game will be the deciding factor on whether or not we can achieve that....games against Essendon, Richmond, Swans at the G, Nth Melb, Port at AAMI into the Crows game are 7 games that on our best form this year we can win.

Agreed that the next match is a big one for us, regardless of the prospective ladder positions. I always get nervous when we play at Subiaco or AAMI, because we NEVER seem to be able to kick a winning score at these grounds! Even now I'm not feeling all to confident of coming away with the four points! :(

Was that when Vardy kicked 5?

JACKATTACK I think you are thinking of the great win against Fremantle at Subiaco circa 2006. torrential rain

I dread the Football Park games every year, as we've been woeful.

I've been to two games in the last 5 years over there and it aint pretty.

Curiosity got the better of me, so here are our results since that win:

2001

R9 Port Adelaide 13.10 (88) d Melbourne 9.14 (68)

2002

R17 Port Adelaide 17.14 (116) d Melbourne 17.10 (112)

2003

R12 Adelaide 21.12 (138) d Melbourne 10.5 (65)

R20 Port Adelaide 17.10 (112) d Melbourne 15.8 (98)

2004

R14 Adelaide 22.13 (145) d Melbourne 10.13 (73)

R19 Port Adelaide 18.17 (125) d Melbourne 6.16 (52)

2005

R9 Port Adelaide 13.10 (88) d Melbourne 9.14 (68)

R19 Adelaide 13.22 (100) d Melbourne 7.4 (46)

2006

R22 Adelaide 23.14 (152) d Melbourne 14.10 (94)

2007

R17 Port Adelaide 25.13 (163) d Melbourne 11.8 (74)

2008

R8 Adelaide 22.18 (150) d Melbourne 11.8 (74)

R21 Port Adelaide 18.21 (129) d Melbourne 7.9 (51)

2009

R3 Port Adelaide 22.15 (147) d Melbourne 14.6 (90)

So our last nine games there, since, 2004, have resulted in an average losing margin of 64 points.

If you take out the 20 point loss to Port in 05, it goes back upto 69 points.

There's clearly a serious psychological issue for our team when they get the bus from the aiport to Westlakes.

My God was that 9 years ago!! Our record is just beyond shocking interstate.

The boys must learn to Bond-Do the job & come home. Block out the crowd.

Its an oval of grass with 4 posts each end. Play as a team and back yourself.

Geez thats a pretty poor record. Still no easy task too beat them over there but if we were ever a real good chance surely its now. Agree with the post its another important game!

This is a great opportunity to notch up a win at AAMI. Haven't won there since Round 2, 2001.

Adelaide are more than beatable.

Yes and no. They won't be as bad as they were at the G. It'd be about a 50/50 game I reckon. Impossible to pick. It may be our best opportunity for years to come. That club, with their resources, they won't be down for long... And even if they're mediocre over the next 3-5 years, they will still be a force at AAMI, as always. Maybe we should pray for Tigers-like rain?

JACKATTACK I think you are thinking of the great win against Fremantle at Subiaco circa 2006. torrential rain

The funny thing is, I'm pretty sure he was actually AT that game.

Playing interstate, it's important to keep the crowd as quiet as possible by getting in front early & staying there. It's just about impossible to play "catch-up", because if the home team is in front the crowd gets involved and carries them along, where if they get behind the home crowd is silent. So it's even more important that we jump them at the start. If we start like we've been doing for most of the season, we'll really be shovelling it uphill.

I think Adelaide will be too good for us at AAMI. They've won 3 of their last 5 games, so their recent form is quite good.

I've written North Melbourne off as a loss. For some reason we don't have the ability to beat them...don't know what it is.

Essendon is a possibility.

Richmond is winnable.

Swans is a possibility

Port maybe...if they've given up on the season.

We may end the season at 7-14-1 which will be a nice achievement.

The undefeated Demons venture across the continent to the spiritual home of the Port Adelaide Football Club on Saturday afternoon for the inaugural match for premiership points between these long-historied clubs. Alberton Oval will however, be a ground familiar to our players following a practice match there last year. We lost both the game and Liv Purcell, who missed 7 home and away matches after suffering facial fractures in the dying moments of the game.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmy’s inclusive banner—"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwood’s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.

  • CASEY: Frankston

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.
