Reasonable news I would've thought.

Good to keep the 'brothers' together.

Jurrah - The most skilful player at the club with the most X factor at the club;

Bennell - Our fastest player, has the makings of a star. Been pleased with his move to wing/half forward. His mistakes aren't as costly if he's not playing defence. Already kicked a magic goal and screamer of a mark to underscore his potential.

Jetta - After a slow start to 2009, he picked it up in the second half and you need to get a copy of his Carlton round 21 game - 24 touches and 2 gls. Would like him to play 8-10 games this year. Not sure if he'll end up as a midfielder, goal sneak, defensive forward, or running defender. I precict him to be a solid player for the club but not a star like Jurrah and Bennel.

Bennell and Jurrah were monties to be re-signed really, so that's good news. Both have had obviously promising starts to their careers.

Jetta is in my too hard basket to classify. I have no idea whether he's going to be useful in the long term or not, so for mine it's a re-signing to give him further opportunity to show what he's made of. It will be interesting to see how he develops.

Agree Nasher on your assessments. At this stage I am not sold on if and where Jetta cuts it at AFL level.

I get the feeling they will possibly look at using him in a defensive role (I seem to recall reading something along those lines somewhere - possibly a Casey report?) - perhaps as someone who can keep the smaller forwards honest but can also pressure the bigger bodies with solid tackling; maybe as a backman in the Whelan mould.

I'm not sold on Jetta but with the next two drafts being seriously compromised, expect a lot more unknown players to re-sign. Better the devil you know and all that.

Besides, Jetta is far too young and inexperienced for us to be making a call on his career. Plenty of other players who should be given the flick ahead of him. He has every chance of becoming a good solid player for us!

Great news on Jurrah especially. Shows how committed he is.

Great news. Good to see List Management continue to lock away our players at appropriate times.

I guess those who were seriously doubting Neville Jetta, even considering him as a candidate for being cut from the list can chew the fat a little longer, with egg on their face. Hard to believe that was the understanding of some, considering it is his second year and injuries have hurt his preparation.

Now for Watts, Blease, Bail and Strauss all class of 2008 Draft,

I think Jordie Mc may look at a full time spot too!

Jurrah and Bennell is good news

Jetta IMO is borderline but he has some time on his side now

Not real sure on his best position yet as he seems too loose to be a defender

Happy with Jurrah and Bennell. Their prospects are easy to forecast.

Nifty Nev is one i'm warming too. I still think his best position is the midfield and i would like to see him have a crack at back pocket too. IMO Wonna and Bennell have the forward pockets taken.

Happy with all three.

Excellent News. The club is starting to show some good signs of running well.

What a refreshing change for the better.

The club has been running well for over a year now. We're now continually seeing the benefits.

Jimmy has forged a whole new culture at this club, and it will not be long before we see that start paying dividends on the field big time... The man is an absolute miracle worker, but I am hoping he will work his greatest miracle off the field.

It's his 2nd season and he has already played 15 games.... it's not like he has clogged up the list and really struggled to get a game since we drafted him.

He is past his injury and will be back in the red and blue before the season is out.

Maric, Macnamara and Cheney are all closer to gone than Jetta would have been.

That being said I think we will see them all stay aswell with compromised drafts on the horizon.

Jurrah was a certainty.

People are under-rating Jetta. He played well last year. I dare say if it wasn't for him being injured he'd have had a crack this year too. Good player I reckon.

I feel just as confident in Jetta making as than Bennell. The thing about Bennell that I just don't like is the fact that he rarely, if ever, strings together four quarters. We've seen plenty of talent, and at his age it's a good sign, but there's not a lot between him and Jetta.

Good news all round.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
