Melbourne Wanting

Featured Replies

I have been hearing from a source at the Melbourne Football Club that we want one of the following players as a key forward in our forward line next year;

Taylor Walker (Adel)

Chris Dawes (Coll)

Jesse White (Swans)

Mitch Thorp (VFL)

Justin Westhoff (Port)

MCKINLEY, Ben (WC)

DOWLER, Beau (Hawks)

Rhys Stanley (StKilda)

Ryan GAMBLE (Geelong)

Taylor Walker (Adel)

Chris Dawes (Coll)

Jesse White (Swans)

Mitch Thorp (VFL)

Justin Westhoff (Port)

MCKINLEY, Ben (WC)

DOWLER, Beau (Hawks)

Rhys Stanley (StKilda)

Ryan GAMBLE (Geelong)

These two look the best, I'd like them in our forward line

Surely this year's had the most ridiculous amount of trade talk prior to Round 8.

FWIW, of that list I'd only go near Dawes and Stanley.

I think that should read I have heard this from someone who is on the sauce at Melbourne......we have no chance whatsoever of getting either Dawes or White, a couple of the others I wouldn't even look at, and the rest would have to be a very good deal.......sigh......Jack Fitzpatrick, Max Gawn, Jurrah, Watts, Petterd, etc etc yawn yawn

Ugh.

I sincerely hope your source at the Club is a waterboy or similar. I'd be most alarmed if a Tim Harrington or similar seriously thought any of these 2nd/3rd bananas is worth giving up anything to acquire.

If I remember correctly Frawley was once a rotten banana, as was Garland. I'll trust in the FD on this one.

wall paper over cracks. none of these guys are A grade, which is what we need. Either stick with our B graders and develop them or give up something to chase an A grader.

We've got enough developing forwards that we've drafted from within.

Getting a second rate forward from another team who isn't quite making it for them (i.e. McKinley, Westoff or Thorp) is a poor trade.

Getting a budding super star or very promising young up n comer from another team would be good (i.e. Dawes), but would cost wayyy too much. Good young key position forwards are like gold, and believe it or not, opposition teams need them also. Considering there is no possibility of PSD picks this year b/c of GoldCoast, we would have to give up BIG TIME to trade for a good player. Not worth it.

Todd my friend

we already tried Thorp out pre season and decided not to take him in the PSD for free.

Your source hasn't got much of a clue as to talent identification either those named players

fall into 3 categories. Showing something for the very first time, are an unknown quantity or are no good.

Plus we're in competition witha cashed up Gold Coast

Plus we have plenty of our own forward line talent to develop already

You don't remember correctly at all.

You don't remember correctly at all.

Wrong again.

Wrong again.

I'm not wrong at all.

Frawley has been highly rated from Day 1, hence the use of a first round draft pick on him. Much like the present situation with Watts, it was known he had the tools to be a player once his body had developed and he had a few games under his belt.

Moreso the case with Garland. For years if you asked anybody in the FD, other players included, who the most talented up and coming players on the list were, you would've had Garland's name shot back at you.

These are the facts.

You may be getting confused with 'experts' on here declaring Frawley & Garland to be no good after 2 games, I can assure you those within the club were not so short-sighted.

As I said before I'll trust in the FD. For starters just because some poster says the FD are looking at player x, y or z does not mean we have any intention of making a play for them. It's called doing the job of a recruiter. Looking at players that play in a position that the FD identifies as required.

I'm not confused these are just the 'experts' I was referring too.

I wanted us to trade for Dawes last year, his value has sky rocketed now so there is no point.

No one is worth it.

We have Watts and Jurrah, hopefully one of our ruckmen develops the ability to play forward, or Fitzpatrick makes it. Either way im happy with what we have.

Taylor Walker looks to be not enjoying his time at the Crows-AT ALL

2 years ago he was ripping the SANFL apart with Norwood.

I would look at him, as he does have talent & may just need a new club with a more creative environment

So worth consideration.

I would not have a crack at any of those players besides taylor walker because they are either no good or would cost to much and be a massive rish....whereas taylor walker wouldn't cost too much and has shown a lot in his short career....although from all reports is a massive turd of a bloke but who cares if he can play footy!

Mitch Thorp should already be on our list, well worth the gamble and the best part is we don't have to give up anything for him. Him and Watts down the spine will become a formidable combination in years to come.

There is a good reason Mitch Thorp is not on our or any other list. Hmmmm.
