Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Those guys are all in big trouble. Hard to see them holding onto their spots.

There will inevitably be another player, as the year progresses, whose performances slip away and will come under pressure. Remember there is the ever-present spectre of GC looming over the uncontracted players as well.

Recently my thoughts have drifted towards Jared Rivers being the top of the list of potential candidates they might be looking at from us. I continue to be bemused by people's fixation on GC only being interested in players born in QLD. Scott Clayton isn't an idiot.

Fair call on that.

I am not sure Rivers will buy you more than a 3rd rounder though.

Maric is lucky he has a two year contract to 2011. Jetta would want to make sure his game does not fall away.

Johnson - delist (possibly redraft with 3rd pick in National draft.)

Doh!

Haha, not a fan RR? Only reason why I think this could possibly happen is if the FD think Spencer, Gawn, Martin & Fitzpatrick are to inexperienced to be Jamar's back up for 2011. Me personally, I think he should get the chop and not be re-drafted.

That'd be fine, really. But if we're going to lose Rivers (or any other player), I'd rather have a 3rd rounder now than in 2013.

Agree and I dont argue on the timing just the value. I am sure you're realistic about it. Sometimes others arent.

I think the most likely scenario at seasons end will be:

McDonald - retire

Green - takes McDonalds spot on veterans list

Petterd - Gold Coast (I hope not though)

Miller - delist

Bell - delsit

Johnson - delist (possibly redraft with 3rd pick in National draft.)

McKenzie - promote to senior list

Spencer - promote to senior list

Hughes? I know he's only had one game, but the FD obviously see some quality there. I'd love him to remain fit for the rest of the year, to see how well (or otherwise) he develops with an injury-free run.

Pointless going back and forth debating what he might be worth in a trade, but perhaps as a frame of reference we can consider that Josh Gibson (+Pick 69) went for Picks 25 & 41.

Next year, GC's 3rd round pick is Pick 41.

However, just developing that thought a little, consider that if we have 4 spots open on our list at the end of the year we can safely assume one will go to McKenzie and then the Club must decide on whether Spencer and/or Hughes will be elevated as well as their time limits on the rookie list will be up. If we decided to elevate one or both of these guys, then we would be out of the draft after our 1st or 2nd pick, which would be around #13/14 or #30/31 assuming a mid-ladder finish. If you're still with me, you will realise that Pick 41 would be of no use to us in this draft, so perhaps in this situation it would be better for us to lose a player and receive the compensation a couple of years down the track???

If only AFL allowed trading draft picks to move up or down in drafts, so surplus picks would be of use...

I haven't forgoten about Hughes Deeoldfart, it's just going to be a question of will there be room for the club to promote him? I think we can all agree McKenzie without doubt will be promoted, and he certainly deserves it! And then I guess it will depend on how much they rate Spencer compared to Hughes? I think they'll have enough trouble promoting 2 players let alone 3.

Interesting. Its certainly a consideration. Outside the names you mention, there are no other 2010 expires that I would consider dropping off the list.

For consistency btw years

Pick 1-16 = 1st round

Pick 17-32 = 2nd round

Pick 33-48 = 3rd round. <----Rivers

If we are only using a few picks, Rivers might come in handy to upgrade a pick, if we have pick 30 for example, we might be able to swap 30 and Rivers for 20.

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt
