I think Hughes was a Demon supporter as a kid. Can anyone confirm?

Big thrill for him anyway!

I think he still has posters of Neitz on his wall ^_^

Not sure about any other changes

Just go ahead and predict 'em, I wanna see if you get them right :P

In Hughes, McKenzie & Johnson

Out Petterd (inj), MacDonald & Martin

So people are saying Bails is at least somewhat reliable, can I ask how you know? Or if you have even the slightest bit of proof?

wont say i told you so Demons 32

That is AWESOME news.

Nothing better than going to the footy and watching a kid (or in this case, guy) play his first match.

Good luck to him. It's been a long long time coming and it is a credit to him that he has stuck it out.

Is this confirmed?

If so I'm going to puke.

Puke away. It is from the MFC website.

Can someone post A photo of this guy. don't even know what he looks like. What number is he? Hope he is half as good as his namesake

Will be good to see how Hughes goes. I've seen him play at Casey a few times and he is a fantastic mark, he does seem to me to go missing a bit, though in fairness it could just be a difficulty in working his way through the congestion that can be VFL forward lines at times

Interested to see how he goes running into the free space that our forward line generates on the rebound as well as seeing his pack marking ability in the AFL

A good in and about time, I thought he may have got a call up last year. I hope he is in for more than one game though regardless of his output tomorrow night

I'm liking the recent trend of debuting players in big games. We had 4 debutants in Round 1 last year, we had Watts on Queens Birthday, Jurrah in our only Friday night match last year, Scully and Trengove in Round 1 this year, and now Hughes in our only Friday night match this year.

Of course, we've had plenty of debutants start their careers in absolutely un-memorable games, but still, I reckon a big game is the best way to start.

All 3 of the games you mentioned we lost by around 50 points if I'm not wrong.

Hope Hughes as the most low-key of those introductions can change that.

Well done Danny. Terrific news. I saw him last year in Jack Watt's first game for Casey and thought he looked ok.

Have a look at his 'mark of the century' on u-tube. They had to choose b/w Hughes and Miller so I'm glad they went for the untried player.

I can't get over the fact JoelMac was dropped. Was he REALLY that bad? I mean... I know he was. But he's had a fantastic start to the year last week notwithstanding.

Maybe it was just with attack in mind, as per what Green suggested on the media? JoelMac out and McKenzie in shows we're obviously keen to keep that run in the midfield, and not keep the defence as it has been. (Martin - PJ, Petterd - Hughes is like for like, obviously)

Good luck danny!!!! Awesome bloke and player.. bout time!!

But Joel Mac was very unlucky. thought he was playing ok. Missed last weeks game though. Maybe more of a match up thing.

It was Rivers or Joel Mac, the club has backed Rivers. The only match up I see for Rivers is Grant. I'm sure the club has let Rivers know that he needs to get back to his best or find form at Casey.

I'm rapt that Hughesy has finally been able to get himself to this point, & his first game. I've liked his footy since he started on the rookie list @ Sandy.

Good luck Danny.

Good Luck Danny! Rip'em apart and play like a DEMON!!

Been a real tough journey and his hard work reaps the rewards of a senior game

Good luck to him

Hughes gets his chance. I am one who really hopes he has a blinder. He has had a shocking run and bloody deserves some good luck to go his way.

His career hangs on his performances this year, so get behind him at the ground and show him some demon love.

Really hoping #38 can kick 3 or 4.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
