Smart boys, they know where this club is headed.

Thats a BIG FARK YOU to gold coast.

:) :) :) :) :) :)

Lovin' it.

Nothing could some up my feelings better than this:

This is brilliant news. :) I probably would have cried if these two boys took the money and ran. These two are going to be two that need to be at the top of their game when we're having a genuine crack at finals.

The Melbourne Football Club means something again.

This is even Bigger than the great Northey years. This Club is going to be Loathed & envied again as it should.

Thanks Jimma. I hope Ricky Petterd thinks long & Hard about his Future.

I wouldn't want to shake Jim Stynes Hand & say goodbye-not even to go back to my Home state. B)

Bring on Next Saturday Night...

It's multiple premiership tilts at the MCG with Melbourne versus year after year of mediocrity at zero-atmosphere Carrara ...

No-brainer.

Hands down the best news I've heard since finding out Jordan McMahon was being traded to Richmond :)

Anyone got any tissues? Actually, a mop might be better...

Love to know that this club is somewhere players want to play. Knowing the players love the club as much as we do brings a tear to my eye (figure of speech, I am saving every tear for a premiership!!)

awesome news.. really really important players to our club

they have both been through 2-3 years of rebuilding and getting belted.. so there is no point in jumping off now and going togold coast to start all over again

Wyl, you keep saying this all the time, (see above). Do you have something against Barassi, & Jordan????

Hi, yeah, sorry Gold Coast <insert brand name here>'s, My contract is being front ended to the edge of oblivion, the club is banking salary cap room like Switzerland, and I kinda like the idea of making history at the home of football, and making old men weep with joy, alongside a group of elite players who I can play out my whole career with and have already shared the bad times.

No disrespect, but I'll stick with the 'beloved club' instead of the 'entertaining franchise'.

John did a fantastic job over 5 years after 23 years of nothing-Maybe its my age but Northey woke up the demon hopefully as Dean Bailey will do.

No offence to Slug or RDB at all, But John Northey was a no name coach who got 110% out of the Demons during his time.

Morton signed a 3 year deal last year, IIRC.

I think I remember Scott Clayton (Gold Coast recruiting manager, former Bulldogs) saying that he thought Morton was the best player in his draft and one of the best young players in the game. Although that could have been my own imagination.

Not your imagination, I recall Clayton saying this about Morton on multiple occasions.

It's one reason I was so relieved last year when Cale did sign the new contract because I was certain he'd be one of their top targets.

All good now.

So is it possible that Quarterbrain confused Morton with Petterd?

If Morton is signed (I have no recollection of that, but I'm sure you're right), why would GC approach him?

Frawley and Petterd are extremely close, so if one chooses to stay I think the other might seriously consider it too.

They can't both go.

But yeah, I thought this was strange too.

I'd be interested to hear exactly what he said - anyone able to get it on YouTube?

You're right about Petterd & Chip being close, from what I'm told.

If he has that would be better news but the way Petterd had shaped his replies to the question recently leads me to think that he is still giving it some thought or has possibly already signed.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
