Mick Malthouse...Genius coach on the verge of recapturing greatness or Gobby halfwit who stayed too long

Is Malthouse:

i) Close to getting it right again and building on his past success at the Eagles

ii) A gobby loon who should pack up and [censored] off

I don't rate him as a coach. I reckon my bride could've coached the Eagles to success in the period Mick went OK (and she is a Crows supporter so obviously knows nothing about Footy.)

Not sure there'd be enough room for the egos down at Collingwood when you have Mick, Eddie and NB, be full a time job bringing the Figs in.

Anyway it was a treat to see Malthouse arc up at the saints at half time....then see the Pies fall over and lose it... and see Mick try to say he never said anything. reminded me of Fawlty Towers.

"He was looking at me and talking to you"

Gobby halfwit who stayed too long.

It is when someone is in trouble and you feel no sympathy that you really understand that you don't like them. :o

Watching the Pies/Saints games and the cuts to Malthouse in the box, I just couldn't get past the feeling that there was a guy who was realising that he'd believed his own hype, taken a big arrogant risk, and blown it. Now he has the rest of this season and all of next season to just go through the motions of coaching, knowing that he is not going to be able to bring home the cup, and knowing that after that he has to spend three more years as football director at a club going through an 'intensive rebuild' because he chucked in the draft picks and gave games to good-average players in the delusion he could get elite-champion results.

Or maybe he'll buy out his own contract and go coach the Western Sydney Blowflies once they realise Sheedy has gone completely bonkers.

It doesn't really matter what you think of Malthouse, a coach cannot say what he said to an opposition player, regardless of that players history.

What did he say?

Was that directed at Milne or Montagna???

ii) A gobby loon who should pack up and [censored] off

Jolly & Ball were poor pick ups, Didak should have been traded, useless player, Dale Thomas, well what can I say all smoke no fire, Davis is good in patches, they have NO forward line, the continued persistence with Cloke is idiotic, Fraser at 28 is pat his best and now in the "Brock" category.

Hack team which is NOT in the supposed premiership window.

Was that directed at Milne or Montagna???

both.

From the age today

Milne, along with teammate Leigh Montagna, was the subject of a 2004 investigation of sexual assault against two women.

I think he has been one of the best coaches of this era if not all time. He had two Collingwood sides in grand finals against one of the best teams ever (Lions). Almost stole a premiership from them when they should not have even made finals. He continues to have teams at the pointy end of the comp that play a brand of pressure, never say die footy our teams can not get within kooie of.

What he allegedly said on Friday is not on for players let alone a coach. If you can read his lips it looks like he allegedly said was "ra" then a head obscures his face, then you can catch the last part that looks like "ist"....

I think Malthouse is a great coach who has done superbly considering the list he has had to work with.

In saying that, he is an arrogant arse that thinks he is gods gift to the world.

Concise and correct. To his credit, he does seem to have become a little more human in the past year or 2

Never know, he might have been asking milne if he was a good rap artist?

Ha ha! Classic!!

Although, given he is adamant he was speaking only to his own players (and I believe everything Mick says), I suspect he was asking Didak or someone else about their rapping skills.

Perfectly encapsulates my thoughts on the man, too.

Hmmm will finish coaching Collingwood, the same time Bailey is out of contract.

Interesting.

He was like a petulant child in the post-Staints press conference. He's incredibly arrogant and blunt in his responses at the best fo times, but he outdid himself this weekend.

But I second the comments about what he's done with the list of players he'd had being a reflection of his ability as a coach - that is a very good one.

Never know, he might have been asking milne if he was a good rap artist?

(Double thumbs up with a wink thrown in) haha

"Ra . . . ist" is bad. You're screwed three ways from Sunday there. Either you're accusing someone of being racist (bad) a rapist (worse) or (astutely pointed out above) a rap artist (worst). Poor Mick. I hope he gets what's coming to him.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
