can't look up the odds but whats Strauss paying for rising star? fyi-can't check gambling sites at work...

i like the cut of this kid...and have a good feeling about him.

81-1 on Eskander's BetStar.

I put $10 on him when the markets opened months ago.

Long shot.

do you have odds on Barlow at Freo ? i'm still waiting on centrebet to frame a market for him after a request. long shot i know, but gets plenty of pill. will get a run for your money. i think he's 22yo but still eligible, is that right ?

Not listed, but I get the feeling he is too old for the award.

I can't believe Melbourne supporters sometimes. They come out salivating about players

& tipping them for awards before they hae ever played a game.

Then after 10 games they cme out & bag them as duds.

I think Franky's a little bit Cranky!

Backing Strauss for the rising star is stupid. You should just donate the cash to the club. Grimes is a league above Struass as a footballer and had a great season last year and even if he did play 22 games he was probably not going to win the award. Strauss will be doing well to get a vote.

He has a year on him though, you wouldn't have said that about Grimes rd1 2009

Cranky, the reason some posters salivate is that they have seen the player as a junior, agreed that this does not necessarily equate to a good senior footy career, and that then leads to the poster being disappointed in not seeing the perceived potential realised.

As for Strauss, watched a lot of him as a junior, yes please if he can bring at least half of that to senior level.

Le't have a bit of optimism as well for the season, it is good for us, Rising Star nomination chances for us, Scully Trengove, Watts, Strauss, Blease (if he can get up and running), Gysberts (who will force his way into the team)

should've saved your money. or put it on tom scully. Still great odds at 11-1.

Put a hell of a lot more on scully at 17-1.

It'll be nice & handy if he comes through as I expect.

Trengove and Scully take a lot of melbourne media. They are good players. But....i feel Strauss as a 2nd year player, being available and playing in the preseason gives me reason to consider him as a melbourne roughy for the rising star award. The guy has quitely gone about his job so far. i hope he gets a crack.

Here's the rub, though. Isn't the Rising Star voted on BY the media?

At this stage, given the amount of coverage given, I'd imagine NicNat was a shoo-in (even if there may be better week-to-week performers out there).

NicNat is the favourite at the moment, as Rich was last season, the difference, Rich was surrounded by old heads who led the way for him and nearly played the whole season. Cox is a bit fragile at the moment and if he goes down, and NicNat does it alone, he will be physically battered, I don't see him figuring although he might get a momination, he is just good marketing..he didn't set the game alight in the last praccy match did he?

100% correct about it being a media award, but I'm backing NicNat to be exposed as the year progresses and for the cream to rise to the top in Scully's case.

Soon the media experts will see how much better Scully makes his teammates and that'll be the difference.

Edit: It's the confidence that Bailey talks about, which will come with the kids playing 50 or so games together - with Scully it will be a lot quicker.

They'll learn where to be in relation to him and be confident he will make the right decision and be able to get it to them.

I'll tell you one thing for free! If they ain't nominated before Rd 8 they won't win.

The Demons’ aggressive small forward who kicks goals and defends the Demons’ ball in the forward arc. 2024 Player Reviews: #1 Steven May

The years are rolling by but May continued to be rock solid in a key defensive position despite some injury concerns. It was another strong season from McVee who spent most of his time mainly at half back but he also looked at home on a few occasions when he was moved into the midfield.
