Supermercado I would love to help but the best I can come up with is

. I went to school with Bryan Keneally at Dandenong High

. I umpired Aaron and Alwyn Davey playing u/14 &16s in Darwin

. I played footie with David Cranage who claimed to be ex MFC 2nds in Port Moresby

. I knew a guy in Darwin by the name of Geoff Case who also claimed to be the man (MFC wise). But have my doubts because he had the height of a hobbit.

. I played senior rules with Brian Dixon in the inaugaural event in 199? whatever and I can tell you that rumours of a speedy wing man are all crap.

. my best mate's house in Rosebud was adjacent to Norm Smith's holiday house on Rosebud and we used to watch he and Barassi play tennis every day.

. I believe the great Jako is Jack Muellers secret love grand child.

It's all anecdotal and I'm sorry but I don't have a photographic mind.

The Demonwiki is a work of art and if people are looking for signatures to add to the petion for honours ( Sir Adam sounds nice) let me know.

Well done on all your hard work and the hours you have put in to create it.

No record of him but there's quite a few years I haven't been able to go through all the Footy Records to get players from team lists. And of course with the way the Record is kept by the State Library where it's random games each week players who were straight in/straight out may never be properly listed. Not complaining because they've done a fantastic job just to put that stuff up.

Couple of other things I'm looking for that the State Library don't cover at the moment are Reserves results and goalkickers from 1990 and 1996 and details for the 1985 Reserves Preliminary Final and 1993 Reserves Grand Final (goalkickers only). Haven't got the time to get down to the SLV itself and look these up so hoping somebody might have a scrapbook or similar with these in it. Will help fill out this page http://demonwiki.org/Reserves

have you found a way to access the Sporting Globe archives (if they exist)?

Sat night used to have all senior and magoo games IIRC

State Library has them on microfilm. Unfortunately that means having to go there.

Many years ago while still at university I had occasion to go to the old Herald Sun building in Flinders Street where they had a library of their old editions. Initially, it was about doing research for an assignment which I completed quickly enough but then I started looking at their sports pages and ended up staying for hours and then coming back a few more times - it was so fascinating reading about the games, articles about players and the issues of the times, even the practice matches and the pre season reports about new recruits.

I suppose somewhere, those newspapers must still exist on microfish or computer - if you have the time and are into that sort of thing, it's a great education and an enjoyable way to pass your time (even if a bit nerdish).

Citizens,

I've gathered pictures for almost every Demon to play a senior match since 1980 but I'm trying to fill the collection and improve a few of the '90's ones that have been taken from low res-scans. Fairly happy there's only 10 players of the last 30 years who I've got absolutely no images of but there are plenty that need to be improved. Hoping somebody has some magazines, team photos, reports, newspapers or obscure documentation with images of the players with no pictures or a decent hi-res scan of the others so I can replace them.

Obviously some of the 80's names are so obscure that I'm never expecting to have a pic of them but if Trevor Castles just happens to be your next door neighbour feel free to ask him if he's got a decent shot of himself in the MFC uniform.

Also looking for shots of various jumper numbers http://demonwiki.org/tiki-read_article.php?articleId=26 This should be a lot easier....

Honestly, I don't, but thanks SOOOO MUCH, supermercado, for keeping this up-to-date, for us less-than-hardcore Demons supporters! Do you have something like a kickstarter or donations page?

What, no photos of Des O'Dwyer??? There's a button on the demonwiki homepage to donate to the running costs OR alternatively (and less shamefully for me) you can click the Demonblog ads EARLY AND OFTEN whenever you visit and all the funds raised from that go towards the hosting.

Sorry for the issues over the past couple of weeks but we are back better than ever after moving to a new server.

Enjoy All!

I was looking for it a week ago.

Went in there a few months ago and the microfiches are now jet powered; much better to use. I also used to fondly go through old newspapers (basement, Monash Uni) and revel in week after week of demon glory from the glory days. For true tragics there is The Argus Online, which is indexed and free. Google Trove.

Any pics on Argus online BD ?

Hello all, Demonwiki now has all the MFC information from Footy Records entered on the relevant player/match/etc... pages from 1912-1927 and 1960-1998 with a few random years between 1928 and 1959 also thrown in.

Also there's a lot of new 'unknown' players http://demonwiki.org/Unknown%20Players and ones we do know the full name of but often don't have much more information http://demonwiki.org/Other+Players. If you can help let me know, and if you're an ex-Reserves/Under 19's player who gets a mention I'd also be interested in hearing from you.

1949 - Stanes

Most likely the father of Tim Stanes, founder of Demonology.

I think Nasher is in communication with Tim from time to time and, though Tim hasn't been in the best of health lately, he might be able to get some detail about his dad's career. He definitely played in the ressies at around that time.

You have a question mark against the club of origin in the bio of Campbell Heath who was on the club's list in 1991 (but didn't play a senior game).

He came from Oakleigh Districts.

(One of my sons played against them in the juniors).

Lovely, another question mark removed. The system works, thanks WJ.

Probability of me getting that level of info out of him is zilch WJ, it took months to get a solitary password from him. Graeme might be able to as he knows him on a more social level, but even then I imagine it would be a huge stretch.

W.Pearson = William Earnest Pearson?

1999 - M Newton could be Michael Newton, brother of Leigh (referenced about half way through that article).

King Valley full-forward Michael Newton hopes to return to form in today's Ovens and King league match at Tarrawingee. Newton, a brother of former Demons ruckman Leigh Newton, kicked 35 goals in three games before kicking only two goals last week against Moyhu.

I vaguely remember the earlier Michael Newton coming up in discussion once on Demonland when talking about "our" Michael Newton (which is how I knew to try and track this guy down), but I can't find the thread now. If I remember correctly it was around the "Juice" nickname and how it was actually Michael (the first)'s nickname and not Leigh's.

Then again, maybe not? Wrong era it would seem - although "went to school with" is a very loose term, it could mean one was in year 12 at the same time the other was in year 7.

FAMILY TIES
Melbourne draftee Michael Newton (No. 43), from the Murray Bushrangers, is no relation to the Demons’ media manager, Leigh Newton, although the former ruckman has a brother called Michael, who went to school with this Michael Newton. If that makes any sense.

I found a wee error in the team line up for the 1964 Grand Final.

You have Ian McLean down as the 19th man when it was, in fact, Peter McLean (no relation).

Ian McLean had already retired from the club by 1964 and, in fact, passed away at a very young age in 1965.

Peter McLean transferred to Carlton and I believe, he also started on the bench for the Blues in their 1968 premiership team.

  • PREVIEW: North Melbourne

Can you believe it? After a long period of years over which Melbourne has dominated in matches against North Melbourne, the Demons are looking down the barrel at two defeats at the hands of the Kangaroos in the same season. And if that eventuates, it will come hot on the heels of an identical result against the Gold Coast Suns. How have the might fallen? There is a slight difference in that North Melbourne are not yet in the same place as Gold Coast. Like Melbourne, they are currently situated in the lower half of the ladder and though they did achieve a significant upset when the teams met earlier in the season, their subsequent form has been equally unimpressive and inconsistent.

  • REPORT: Adelaide

The atmosphere at the Melbourne Football Club at the beginning of the season was aspirational following an injury-plagued year in 2024. Coach Simon Goodwin had lofty expectations with the return of key players, the anticipated improvement from a maturing group with a few years of experience under their belts, and some exceptional young talent also joining the ranks. All of that went by the wayside as the team failed to click into action early on. It rallied briefly with a new strategy but has fallen again with five more  consecutive defeats.

  • CASEY: Coburg

The Casey Demons returned to their home ground which was once a graveyard for opposing teams but they managed to gift the four points on offer to Coburg with yet another of their trademark displays of inaccuracy in front of goals and some undisciplined football that earned the displeasure of the umpires late in the game. The home team was welcomed by a small crowd at Casey Fields and looked right at home as it dominated the first three quarters and led for all bar the last five minutes of the game. In the end, they came away with nothing, despite winning everywhere but on the scoreboard and the free kick count.

  • PREGAME: Rd 18 vs North Melbourne

After four weeks on the road the Demons make their long awaited return to the MCG next Sunday to play in a classic late season dead rubber against the North Melbourne Kangaroos. Who comes in and who comes out?

  • POSTGAME: Rd 17 vs Adelaide

The Demons were wasteful early before putting the foot down early in the 2nd quarter but they chased tail for the remainder of the match. They could not get their first use of the footy after half time and when they did poor skills, execution and decision making let them down.
