FLASHFORWARD

On October 6, the planet blacked out for two minutes and 17 seconds.

The whole world saw the future...

The television series FLASHFORWARD looks at what happened to the world when an unexplained, cataclysmic event knocked out (almost) its entire population for two minutes and 17 seconds. During that time most people who experience the event get to see a glimpse of their own future on a date six months forward - April 29, 2010.

But what if you were shown a glimpse of your future and didn't like what you saw?

Would you fight hard to prevent what you saw from coming true?

We're inviting all Demonlanders to flash forward to April 29, 2010.

The NAB Cup has come and gone and we're just gotten over Round 5 after playing Hawthorn, Collingwood, Adelaide, Richmond and the Brisbane Lions.

You tell us and our readers what's happening at the Melbourne Football Club in your own flash forward. The best five entries will be included in our Articles and News section some time down the track along with the entry that we judge to be closest to the pin.

This will be posted on both the Demonland Footy Message Board and the Jordan McMahon Drafting and Trading Board.

the dees are 5-0 after liam jurrah has torn everyone to bits from CHF, including 65 goals already in five games.

LOL yes and the round 1-5 rising star nominations are Watts, Scully, Trengove, Strauss, Blease

season continues after being 5-0 go on to become the first undefeated team 25-0 beating the cats in the grand final.

grand final scores are

liam jurrah 19.6.120 v geelong 4.2.26. (he just plays on his own in the ruck)

jurrah gets an unprecedented perfect brownlow medal score of 22 games with 3 votes for a total of 66.

also wins the coleman with an amazing 334 goals.

bruce mcavaney (spelling?) uses the word special 25793724 times to describe the jurrahcane.

i personally have 402863 man crush orgasms watching him play.

When the event happened on 6 October 2009 it was right in the middle of trade week. The football departments of Collingwood and St. Kilda were sitting down at a meeting to organise Luke Ball's transfer to the Pies. Everything blacks out for 2 minutes and 17 seconds and during that time Ball experiences his flash forward to 29 April 2010.

He's wearing Melbourne Football Club gear and he's driving to training. There's this young brat named Tom Scully in the passenger seat. They stop at the lights and a car full of magnificent blondes stops next to them. They're blowing kisses lustily at Tom but they're ignoring him. He panics. He remembers the vision he had a couple of weeks back when Melbourne beat Adelaide in round 3 - all of those Crows falling out of the sky. He's perspiring and asking himself, "Why has Bailey only been giving me 46% of game time? Why did Connolly give me a road map to Casey Fields when I left training last night?"

He comes out of his flash forward and the meeting between the Pies and the Saints has surprisingly broken up without agreement. He is convinced that he must do everything he can to stop the future from happening. But has his future already been decided?

Stay tuned!

Demons are 4 and 1, having lost their only match so far to then Tigers.

Well, if I win, at least I won't be sharing the title with anyone else.

Demons are 3 and 2 on 29 April 2010, and are in the 8 much to the surprise of opposition supporters. The Demons membership has just surpassed 2009's record total of 31,508. Well on it's way to over 33,000. :)

An away win in the Nab cup over Fremantle, followed by an exciting, open game against Geelong where we drop away in the last qtr against the sustained class of the Premiers, has the fans thinking there is genuine appeal to the coming season.

This is followed by an embarrassing shellacking... handed out by us this time, down at Casey Fields in front of a good local crowd whipped up by effective pre-season visits and marketing.

Rnd 1. Memebership ticks over 20,000 before the season starts, then bumps up a few more thousand after a ferocious, hard-fought first round where the ruthless hawks brutally target debut guns Trengove and Scully, and Campbell Brown gets himself rubbed out for five weeks for an absurd and offensive high bump on James McDonald. Brent Moloney slams on the 'fair bumps' for the rest of the quarter, stepping up to lead until McDonald comes back after the half time break. The kids acquit themselves well under the hammering, understandably without starring, but doing a few 'special' things which stamp that they will not be intimidated. There are four guys in the middle of the circle celebrating their first win, Watts, Scully, Trengove and Strauss, appropriately for the Demons new 'youth game'.

Rnd 2. The game stays in the media all week courtesy of the controversy, leading to a sensational build-up to the round 2 game against Collingwood.

A big crowd turns up and is treated to a thrilling encounter, punctuated by the Liam Jurrah show. Collingwood win by just a couple of goals and everyone goes home looking forward to Queens Birthday.

Rnd 3. After an uncertain start in the first couple of rounds, Adelaide go back to basics and strangle the game, as they do so well. The Demons hold close for most of the match but a couple of quick goals put Adelaide four goals in front going into the last change. The final quarter opens up the scoring and both sides kick almost as many in the last as they did for the rest of the game, but the Crows hold on with only a slight reduction in their 3/4 time margin.

Rnd 4. Richmond. After humiliations in the first two rounds Hardwick managed to rally the troops for a surprise win up in Sydney, partly thanks to another Richo special. They are brought thudding back to earth by the Demons, who have played much better football despite accompanying the Tigers on one win for the season. Solidly ahead at half time, the third quarter sees a withering burst from multiple young guns that tears the game open and leaves only the question of who, of several, should be taking home that week's rising star award. A couple of junk time goals in the final quarter fail to bring respectability back to the margin for Richmond.

Rnd 5. Saturday night at the 'G and the Demons faithful have turned up in the best numbers against an interstate side for some years. Plenty of stragglers and 'footy lovers' have come along to see the Fevola-Brown show in Victoria for the first time that season, and they are treated to a special day at both ends. Voss backs his older midfield and power forwards to win more contests and kick more goals, choosing to open the game right up for all out attack. The continuing Jurrah spectacular and at last the breakout game from Watts turns the game into a spectator's party, with more than 20 goals kicked by just four players. Frawley gets a handle on Fevola in the second half and in the end only an extraordinary effort from Jonathan Brown gets the Lions over the line.

Sitting at 2-3 after five rounds, with good percentage, nobody is tipping the Demons for the spoon. Memberships creep past 30,000 during the week and look sure to break the club record again. The lively and unpredictable games and determined efforts have gone a long way to establishing a new respect for the Demons and have the turnstiles ticking over merrily.

You may wonder how I know so much detail in my 'flashforward', but seriously, if all this happened, would there me anything else on your mind?

It's happened again but this time ...

Late on January 14, the planet blacked out for two days and 17 hours.

The whole world saw the future...

Actually, it wasn't the whole planet, just Demonland and I'd like to thank Nasher for getting us back on air in difficult circumstances.

Now, tell us what you did to fill the void and whether you saw into the future ... particularly Melbourne's future!

Sorry but the entire period of two days and 17 hours is a complete blank. I went cruising down the Yarra with some mates from Carlton.

My soul has been lost without demonland. Cheers Nasher. You dont know what you have till you no longer have it.

I'm loving Flashforward. New seaon should be great along with the Deez!!!!

The Dees will be 2 and 3, with a couple of close losses. Just out of the top 8, but showing some exciting footy with (touch wood ) no injuries. Looking ok after a very good NAB Cup preparation after bombing out in the semi's.

Last Friday lunchtime, having tried to log on to D'land - without success - I watched a little of the cricket and watched Punter get his double century; that and visiting O'logy.

Good to see it's back up & running. As for the Melbournefc team I've already seen the future (as previously mentioned on the thread); the Dees will be 3 & 2.

Seriously?

Because like others on this board, and having experienced the roller coaster of 1987, I am a fantasist. I harbour the hope we can sneak into the finals with a 12-10 record and maybe even snatch an elimination final win.

But to get serious, with our draw, on April 29 Demon fans will be relieved to have two wins on the board. It could be as few as one with only the Tigers game where we'll start favorites.

The other win is probably the Lions courtesy of Warnock blanketing Brown and Frawley shutting down Fev. That means we'll start the year with three defeats, but nothing like the margins of last year.

If there is a boilover in there, we might knock off the Crows in their negative mode, but it's more likely that after two big hitouts against the Hawks and Pies we could have a let down and miss one that is there for the taking.

As for the NAB Cup, a round one win over Freo was followed up with a half-pace defeat against the Cats who floored the Kangas in their opening game.

  • AFLW REPORT: Port Adelaide

Well, that was a shock. The Demons 4-game unbeaten run came to a grinding halt in a tense, scrappy affair at the sunny, windy Alberton Oval, with the Power holding on for a 2-point win. The Dees had their chances—plenty of them—but couldn't convert when it mattered most. Port’s tackling pressure rattled the Dees, triggering a fumble frenzy and surprising lack of composure from seasoned players.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Port Adelaide

The undefeated Demons venture across the continent to the spiritual home of the Port Adelaide Football Club on Saturday afternoon for the inaugural match for premiership points between these long-historied clubs. Alberton Oval will however, be a ground familiar to our players following a practice match there last year. We lost both the game and Liv Purcell, who missed 7 home and away matches after suffering facial fractures in the dying moments of the game.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmy’s inclusive banner—"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwood’s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.

  • CASEY: Frankston

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.
