He can nominate for either with contract terms and the firts club willing to mmet the contract and spend the pick get him.

In the PSD that's us, in the ND the club has to be prepared to spend the pick, that wouldn't be us because we would need to to use 18 to trump Collingwood's 30. I doubt he'd go earlier than 18 unless Port was in the market at 16 so Ball needs to look at the clubs with picks 19 to 29 and see whether he'd get thru to 30.

Sydney? I think Ball would be very wary about their intentions. He'd fit right into Paul Roos game plan and I think the Swans might be tempted to use pick 14 on him. Given Essendon's declared interest, they'd see Ball as pretty good value at pick 26 as well.

The Question is does he want to risk having to move North (or West) by going into the PSD, if not the only real options for him are to re-sign with the Saints or change his mind about playing with us.

 
He's only 25 (younger than Davey who just got a 4 year deal)!

I know his body is not in great shape, but he may still be around when we're challenging for a flag, and if he brings leadership and experience, why not?

We lost his exact type in McLean, whether by choice or not is unclear, but if we got pick 11 for McLean and can get Ball for nothing as a short to medium term replacement, it'll be a huge win.

I knew the Collingwood deal would fail!

Now all the Demons need to do is convince Luke Ball that coming to the Demons is genuinely worthwhile.

Lets hope Dean Bailey and Co arrange a meeting with him.

Explain to Luke that there is a great opportunity here at the Demons if he wishes to take it.

He can choose to nominate for either or both drafts...so yes he can just nominate for PSD

It's dependent on when his contract ends. If he doesn't have a binding contract prior to list lodgement, he automatically is delisted & if he nominates, he'll go into both drafts.

If we can't land Ball in the PSD then heads should roll. We must have the money to pay him. He will be our no 1 midfielder and he will be able to show the 2 best kids in the draft how it's done or he can stay at St Kilda where he has clearly fallen out with Lyon who doesn't rate him.

A big name player is just what this club needs, he is great at clearances and we are the worst team at that so we definately need him. If we can't land him then I'll have to ask what is the club doing? I'm getting sick and tired of this club not being able to land quality experienced players.

When did he say he didn't want to play for the MFC?

Like the guy as a player, but I'm really not convinced he's right for us. If his aim is to play in a premiership (which it seems to be), then his unwillingness to consider anything other than a side whose "premiership window" is already open may mean that he just doesn't see his body holding out until a 4-6-year "premiership window" period like ours.

Also, he'd be taking 15-22 games (barring injury) away from the younger mids that we badly need to get game time into.

This might not be a problem if he was the type of mid we need, but he's not.

No point now in attracting a "name" just for the sake of it. Much smarter to get a lesser player in the PSD who fills a need.

All we can do, if we are interested is put a proposal to him, it is then up to Ball if he wants to come to the bottom side, with very little experience on it's list. Does he want another situation when he first arrived at St Kilda? Or does he want to play out the next 3-4 years (doubt his body will hold up longer) at a club in the hunt for flags?

I think he will say thanks but no thanks. It might be a couple of years before we can attract so called big name players to our club.

    Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.
