Danny Stanley and Ryan Cook

I was speaking to a mate today - apparently he knows someone inside the Pies who told him that Danny Stanley and Ryan Cook want to be traded to Melbourne, citing limited opportunities as the reason.

Don't know about our club's stance on this, but do you think we would entertain either of these guys on our list. Personally, I think Cook would be worth a punt - he was a highly touted youngster (2005 Draft No. 23).

Danny Stanley has carved it up in the VFL this year (which usually doesn't account for much). He is a strong-bodied half-back / midfielder but I think we have enough of these.

Thoughts??

Ive heard real promising things about Stanley.

But id definitely be passing on both.

I can't really judge them, haven't seen enough of them live to know their ability;

Were their requests separate or are they best mates or something?

I'm going to be the annoying one who brings this up as if it matters...:

Ryan Cook was a Demon growing up.

I wouldn't blame them. Probably just wanna get the chance to play with the Walpari Wizard!

Sorry but I don't want my club to become a refuge for players who can't make the cut at other clubs. These guys don't excite me.

We have four picks in the top 20. I would be surprised if we picked up any speculative recycled players unless they were rookied.

Probably just want to get the chance to play - full stop.

It is sad that all the hacks at opposing clubs want to get a game of afl at the dees.

No thanks!

I havent got a clue if they are any good. I don't want them here, we have plenty of young talent on our list I'm sure we are in no great need for them.

But I still don't blame them for wanting to come play with us. We got LJ. He's gunna be bigger than MJ. Get on board while you still can!

the fact that no one knows who they are i'd think not... I'd only want to get players to Melbourne who are actually worth something to another club.

Tell 'em to apply at Casey. They might take them.

I know AFL pretty well.

Never knew there were footballers called Danny Stanley and Ryan Cook...

As always, defer to BP.

They are both slow midfielders with questionable disposal. Good players at VFL level, but struggle whenever they've been selected for AFL.

Of course they're requesting a trade, they'll both likely be delisted.

I'd consider Chris Dawes and Shannon Cox, both who aren't getting games for the Pies seniors

I haven't seen him play but I know a lot of Collingwood supporters were ropeable that Stanley wasn't getting a game while regularly getting 30+ (presumably good) possessions in a VFL side that made finals. Apparently nearly 40 touches in the first final, led clearances and kicked a couple of goals.

I like the idea of getting a player who is ready to play with a later pick (50 possibly). Not sure whether Stanley is that player, but he would surely be considered.

Valenti has more impact at VFL (and AFL) than Stanley does, and he'll struggle to stay on our list.

I don't think it's comparing apples with apples as Stanley is more AFL-size, but I don't know enough about him to take this any further.

Any interest in Myles Sewell (brother of Brad) who won the Liston and will be playing for Nth Ballarat in the VFL GF tonight?

A few seasons back we would probably have considered these two. Not any more - thank God.

Shannon Cox got delisted last year?

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Port Adelaide

The undefeated Demons venture across the continent to the spiritual home of the Port Adelaide Football Club on Saturday afternoon for the inaugural match for premiership points between these long-historied clubs. Alberton Oval will however, be a ground familiar to our players following a practice match there last year. We lost both the game and Liv Purcell, who missed 7 home and away matches after suffering facial fractures in the dying moments of the game.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmy’s inclusive banner—"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwood’s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.

  • CASEY: Frankston

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.
