If he has done so well in the backline why change him to the forward line? He was fantastic back there so keep him there. If we need him to pinch hit up forward thats fine but his perminant position should be down back.

He's not too much different in size to Jurrah though

I think it depends on how he goes over pre season. If he can develop a motor I think he will make a great winger. Great defencing skills. I know that Neita felt he would/will make a great forward.He told me so.He felt he could replace himat full forward.

I was waiting for that... but what i was aiming at was "swingman who can easily play KPP defense or attack, big or small, in a premiership side"

Not sure Hunter had the smalls covered and I'd sincerely hope he's a better player (& has better luck with injuries)

I'd like to see him put a bit more bulk on before he starts crashing into packs in the forward line, we can't have forwards getting rag-dolled and he reminds me a bit of (dare I say it) Justin Whestoff body-wise at the moment. Give him some more experience in the backline, pinch hit up forward if needed, but I think possibly Big Stef Martin or the Russian will add some size to our forward line in 2010.

What do you think Bailley has done to develop his list. Play them in many positions- to learn and be accountable. Garland has got great attributes to be a class winger. Look at Clay & Woods in one of the best teams ever at Richmond during there prime years. They were brilliant- MORTON & GARLAND on both wings- BRILLIANT.Watts will never play as an ongoing winger- he will play as a forward,Dunn, if he can get a game as a utility.However Jurrah could play on a wing reasonably reguarly, but I would be very disappointed if they just did not let him do his own thing mainly on the forward line.

I'd say Garlands main position, will be down back wearing opponates like a glove.

Forward. He'll be dangerous on the lead, won't get beaten one on one and will be useful when the ball hits the ground. Plus he can make the repeat efforts around half forward to help out Bate.

I don't believe in the changing positions ruined a career line. If he doesn't make it as a forward then revert him to the backline, but geez his worth a go up forward.

Would Garland be a better player and offer more forward then he would back? I don't think so. The backline does not have the appeal and glitter of the forward line and this would sway many peoples view to change him forward. Just because we don't have anyone to fill that position in the short term I think we shouldn't take him from where he has performed fantasticly which is down back.

I really missed watching him this year.

If the best backline we have is fit then I think we should give him a bunch of games forward, especially if Miller and Newton are bouncing between the 1's and 2's, otherwise we will struggle to kick goals again with such a young and inexperienced forward line that we will have. He could rotate wilth Petterd if we find that there are holes up back. Worth a try IMO.

Agree. I think he is definitely worth a run up forward. There is something James Hird-like about the way he moves, similar frame and long arms and he may have a largely untapped creative streak in him that could allow him to be dangerous closer to our goal. With an ability to read the play, can play tall or small, has some speed and height and with those long arms, he could become a difficult matchup. He can also kick a goal which Miller and Newton can't with any certainty.

Remember we are in a development phase - and Bailey has definitely flagged flexibility in players - even to the point of having already nominated Garland as likely to have a run up forward.

Why not? History is littered with players who have switched ends and become a success in a new role. Even if it doesn't always work -or he becomes a genuine swingman - then our game plan and matchups become just that little bit harder for the opposition to read. He has a class about him that Miller and Newton don't have, Robbo's gone and vacancies are there.

Nothing wrong with some more tall class on the forward line alongside Jurrah and Watts (when he's ready).

Medical opinion suggest that a Talus fracture is likely to take 3 to 4 months to heal. It is an area that has limited blood supply and therefore takes a long while to heal. What I don't understand is that this injury is usually caused by trauma to the foot from such things as car accidents, rigourous sporting activities etc. Garland surely wouldn't have done anything to cause this. Maybe it was missed in the original diagnosis?
