Trade/Draft room

Ah the beauty of the PSD#1. B)

yep...you just dont know what might be there this year as many teams attempt to load up with youth where ever they can ahead of the drought. Might be some pickings in the PSD..have a hunch trade week will be brim full of teams adjusting their lists though

Not because he isn't an outstanding contributor and possibly future captain, but he and Bruce are the only two players currently on our list who hold some trade currency AND won't be around for our next serious finals tilt. People suggesting that we trade Bell, PJ, Newton etc are dreaming - we won't get squat for guys who can't get a game at the 16th best team.

I am trying to fathom the necessity to trade this year.

MFC should only be looking to trade what it has surplus in.....Newton, PJ and Bell are either surplus or not good enough. No trade value there.

We are definitely not surplus in experienced players who are leaders at the Club an should play a pivotal role in the Club moving forward towards the finals.

Its not just about the finals its the path taken to get there.

I doubt either Bruce or Green are on the trade table this year.

Million to one that dangerfield ends up in a demon jumper next year. Crows wont do it.

Saying that, would like it. But it's a case of better the devil you know. for the crows and they will keep danger in SA.

I just cant see uws giving up the double of 1 and 2. Yes many will say there is enough talent to fill out the first round but as they say...we wont be in this position again. The PP is all but dead. You can bet AD will leave it fallow even after GC and WS are in. So we are probably the last to benefit from it. After all the turmoil, angst and other assoc crap we've endured to get these .. why give them up?

For mine there are really only two scenarions

1) Scully Trengove and best avail at 18

or

2) Scully Butcher and best avail at 18

Possibly pick 18 is used in some contrived trade.. but surely common sense says we..and we alone use the first two picks.. and we choose who WE want/need.

Should be Sully, Trengrove best available tall at 18.

If we finish bottom as seems likely we get first pick in the PSD. Given that I wouldn't be using pick 18 on Hale who can't get into the North side.

If interested we should be able to offer a lower pick and a player under the threat of taking him for nothing if he is uncontracted and willing to cross to us.

I like the Hale idea, he would complement Watts and Jurrah and give ruck relief without having to carry 2 ruckmen.

I believe List Manager Tim Harrington came from North - I reckon we'd be unlikely to threaten them - we'd need to do a fair deal.

It will be Scully and Butcher. Put your house on it, sure bet. The dees have said they were looking for a big forward to break the packs before anything else. Its just a bonus now they have the priority pick they can get both butcher and Scully.

If as someone posted earlier Hale is contracted, then my post on taking him in the PSD is incorrect, he would gave to be traded. If he could be traded for reasonable consideration then you would consider it.

agreed, there fools if they take the SA kid, its simply not worth the risk, we got bugger all in return for scott thompson.

The issue with Butcher is as much as it is with Watts.. you wont get a result overnight. It wil take a couple of preseasons and a good 3-40 games before Butcher would probably come into his own. Jurrah is a whole different fish as he's simply different. So the question is...do we have enough folk or others that might come into the equation to fulfill forward roles as compared to fash, hard at it, and skilful midfielders ??

We cant have our cake and eat it twice let alone once. We ARE getting the two earliest picks in all probability and thats pretty good going. Again I go back to the argument that mids CAN kick goals ..whilst forwards cant run the centre. Which offers more value ?? Im still going with Sculy and trengove I think at this time.

Butcher has questions over him as to his ability to dominate in his accustomed fashion once he starts playing with the big boys..Trengove ALREADY is playing with the big boys.

Its probably a happy dilemma to be in, one all other clubs will be envious..but its stil a dilemma ...lol

Would you think 18 is reasonable? I would consider it - he'd solve a major gap (depending on where we think Martin will end up).

We've maybe got an excess of tall backs and depending on how North want to use Hansen (i.e. forward if Hale was gone) - maybe North would be interested in a player trade, how about Rivers for Hale?

With talk of Trent Croad potentially not playing again maybe Melbourne could trade Miller and our 4th round pick to Hawthorn for their 3rd round pick. Hawthorn could try and re-invent Miller as a defender and we could free up some room in the squad for new players???

ooh youre a brave man Old :) Problem is..and I tend to parallel youre interest in a possible trade for Riv is that fit and well and on his game he's good.. when hes not.. then hes really of littel value to anyone let alone us. I do concur that pick 18 might be of pivotal importance come trade week...its a top 20 pick after all !!

If Hale is simply on the outer at Arden for some unfathomable reason ( other than form ) then he would be a top pick up..If he like a lot of players comes into the comp and burns brightly for a moment befoe a residual career of so-so-ness then it becomes iffy. Still, he might be one of those players who might enjoy a neww lease and role/responsibility at another club.

Riv would probably fit in ok at North.

I doubt it.

Miller may be delisted at year end and they could get him for free in the PSD.

Old's swap of Hale for Rivers is interesting indeed.

I think Jared..and indeed Frosty were favs of Danihers..and dont hold quite the same charm for Bails..just my pure sentiment there and no ting to really back it up other thansome team lists sem interesting over time. I seem to think Dean will happily chnage-over, upgrade etc players with the club in mind..and no so much sentimentality as I think Neale afforded some.

keep Martin down the half back.. Hale into Ruck come resting forward etc. becomes interesting doesnt it B)

Is Miller out of contract? I thought he was contracted till end of next year, but maybe not?

I don't like Rivers for Hale. I like our current core group of defenders. With Rivers, Warnock, Frawley, Garland and Bennell we're looking really solid. Don't want to mess with a good thing!

Miller is out of contract this year.

If you add Martin to the backline then we have a surplus so Hale-Rivers is tempting.

it never ceases to amaze me that there are so many posters here and demonology that undervalue Rivers, he is a very good player and if free of injury will be in our best next year.

Who's undervaluing him?

I just equated him to pick 18.

If you want quality you've got to give quality.

North wouldn't trade Hale for a battler.

I like Rivers and I hope North would too.

We've got to look where we've got excess to fill deficiencies

It's an interesting prospect Old. North need key backs, they also need a stoppage player to replace Harris who looks to be cooked and some tall running backs. none of Dunn, Newton or Bell are going to excite North, and while I'm loathe to trade either Rivers or Jones they're exactly the players they'd be looking at in exchange for Hale.

Interesting hypothetical, old55.

I don't know enough about why Hale can't get a gig at North, but I'd certainly look at the pick or player swap.

I mentioned this in a post in this or another thread - KPF's take longer.

If you think we need a KPF at some point then the sooner we get one the better.

I also think that it's harder to find KPFs than it is mids later in the draft and, as you point out, we won't be getting pick 1 and 2 again any time soon.

I wouldn't touch a Rivers for Hale swap with a ten foot pole, mainly because I really don't rate Hale. I can see why some would find getting him tempting. After all, our ruck division is laughable. However, I'd much sooner draft a ruckman this year and look to bring quality into the side. We're in the process of weeding out the duds and building from the ground up, not plugging holes with NQRs. Could Hale be a first ruck in a premiership side? Surely not. I'm through with trading for ruckmen who are incapable of holding down the number one ruck spot. Keep Jamar as the #1 for now while we're useless, work on Spencer and you've got Martin in a relieving, versatile role and Johnson and Meesen as your backups.

Well he is competing against a very good ruckman in McIntosh at North, but I'd be thinking more as a Key Forward that could rotate onto the ball in short bursts. His set shots this year have been woeful, but he's really the only key forward inside North's fifty and he was good enough to kick 7 on Matty Scarlett in 08.

funny in recent times I wouldnt rate Riv that high either !! Horses for courses. we probably have a decent back forig with or without Jared.. thats just a reality given the amount of dwon time hes had in recent years. Will we ever see the great jared of old ?? or the shadow that plays most weeks with glimmers of yesterday. This isnt meant as a slight toards Riv..just calling it as I see it.. There may be moreto glean out of hale then there is ( for us ) going forward. Hence the attractiveness of maybe doing a deal sooner rather than later. Thats been our falling down over the years....leaving it too late to trade. hawthorndidnt make that mistake and strangely they managed a Premiership....food for though isnt it !

Have you not watched many North games this season?

Andrew Swallow is developing into a fine in and under performer.

Over on big footy they are talking a Davey for Hale trade. Some are even saying keep Hale. You got to love people's high hopes.

No way i'd trade Rivers. Hale would be interesting though at present he got dropped from a team that lost 9 in a row. Wouldn't rate him in too highly.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Port Adelaide

The undefeated Demons venture across the continent to the spiritual home of the Port Adelaide Football Club on Saturday afternoon for the inaugural match for premiership points between these long-historied clubs. Alberton Oval will however, be a ground familiar to our players following a practice match there last year. We lost both the game and Liv Purcell, who missed 7 home and away matches after suffering facial fractures in the dying moments of the game.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmy’s inclusive banner—"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwood’s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.

  • CASEY: Frankston

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.
