Melb North Melb Merger discussion

more in this ?? for sure..Jackson's muck raking.. its just for why Im curious

I've always said that the Bears were a meaningless nothing until they merged with Fitzroy. Wait until North is a carcass waiting to be picked at (a la the roy boys) then North should merge with Fremantle, become the Fremantle Kangaroos, wear a Roos jumper and then they survive and Fremantle get some backbone.

That being said, if North manage to survive on their own, good on them.

Nth were close to going under and hence were looking at relocation to stave off disappering all together.

Melbourne up until receintly were looking down the same path

Melbourne have now "merged" with the MCC which should guarantee the long term survival of the Melbourne Football Club.

Nth doesn't seem to have gone forward a couple of years now after the gloss as warn of the change in admin. Therefore they are likely to be looking down the barrel of a problem in the next 5-10yrs. Poor supporter base etc etc. What is most interesting is that they have not been linked to the bulldogs who are always walking the tight rope, however on the surface they seem far off being in dia trouble.

If nth cannot improve their off field strength I agree with the earlier statement that the Tassie Kanga's becomes an option.

It would be interesting to hear not from Stynes and co, but from the MCC on this issue.

Conclusion = SLOW NEWS DAY

It does seem as if Jacksons statements are calculated but appear ignorant of recent manouvers by the Dees to shore up its independence and future.

He's [censored] stirring..but love to know on behalf of whom

I'm going to play the role of the devil's advocate here...

From an outsiders point of view looking at our position I think this is a fair enough opinion to have considering the assistance that we've received from the AFL over the last 4 or 5 years and our crowd sizes, especially the sub 15k we had the other week.

I personally don't care what people like Jackson say but it''s his opinion and everyone is allowed to have one, however we have to continue to work bloody hard to prove to the rest of Australia that we can survive on our own.

Agree with this.

But also think it's a little ironic that he suggests this when it was his administration that signed off on [censored] stadium deals that didn't benefit the vic clubs at all.

The Melbourne Kangaroos wouldn't work at all, I think close to 90% of North supporters wouldn't have a bar of it. Many of the people on this forum wouldn't have a bar of it.

Rather than a superclub it would probably create a superbasketcase.

Rather than a superclub it would probably create a superbasketcase.

Spot on.

The Melbourne Football Club would merge over my dead body. Who would support it?

This is simply ridiculious.

We have the history. We have the tradition. We have the MCG.

We are on the way up while North are in all sorts of trouble, both off-field and on.

North should have gone to the Gold Coast while they had the chance.

However the fact that people still want to talk up a proposed merger of the MFC with whoever it may be, is a reminder that we have to keep working hard to ensure the clubs long term viability. The perception that we are a struggling club remains and in many ways the club is still vulnerable. We have made great strides over the last 12 months to do this, but we're not out of the woods yet. Let's be sure to maintain our focus and make the club again the power it once was.

North should have gone to the Gold Coast while they had the chance.

yes... they could certainly look back upon this one day and roo their lost opportunity to have survived

We have all seen how proposed mergers don't work.

As for Mr Jackson...10 teams in Melbourne does, and probably has a more financially secure base than 2 in Adelaide.

North members voted against moving. Brayshaw sold them a lot of air, the stories about Indian billionaires came to nothing, the white knights came to nothing, but all Melbourne supporters can understand and sympathise with the supporters from North.

With North's position so perilous, and now that the gun-sights of the AFL have moved off us and onto them, then Tassie will become the only viable option outside folding completely. Vlad has never had to propose a side in the apple isle, because someone will move there instead of face extinction.

We have a lot to thank Jimmy and Cameron for ......debt demolition, MCC re-alignment, biggest membership ever, rebuilding relationships within and outside the club. For the first time in a long time the heat is off us. Even though we sit at the bottom of the ladder.

This is a joke. The kangas lose a few games and now they are getting kicked inthe teeth, I suppose it's better than us getting kicked in the teeth every week like we have been. We shouldn't be talking about them relocating cause that's what everyone has said about us for years. We shouldn't be kicking them when they are down we should understand that better than anyone. The merger won't ever happen cause there is too much give and take like the Melbourne Hawks only a take over can happen like the Bribane lions. The Kangas will win this week I can see it now

They do have 1 major problem though and that is their president Brayshaw he is a gutless [censored] the way he bends over for his fat head mate at Collingwood is a disgrace he should resign immediately. If Stynes done the same thing I'd be wanting his head too lucky for us Stynes has a backbone.

North slams merger proposal.

http://www.news.com.au/heraldsun/sport/afl...6-19742,00.html

Here's a quote from Jackson:

"It (a merger between the two clubs) will be expensive and it will cause an enormous amount of angst amongst a relatively small number of people but I really do think it's in the best long-term interests of the game," Jackson said.

I guess we're the 'relatively small number of people.'

Pi$$ off Jackson.

I'd vote for this merger,

the 2 clubs would be come one, this is how it would go.

would be called the Melbourne Demons or Melbourne Football club, Demons nickname

train at Arden St and Casey

wear a blue jumper with red V, blue shorts, red socks

club song would be "it's a grand old flag"

so to sum it up, we could train at their ground and they don't exist anymore

anything else means I would only need to buy 1 membership a year and that would be for Melbourne Victory

North has distinct problems going forward..they are very real. The cavalry they were expecting must have stopped somewhere for a change of horses and then completely forgot where and what they were riding for !! There light is dimming a bit and should they fall into a pit as a result of poor form and unrealised drafting then they will be very much in the land of poo !! They are still careering about like a punch drunk fighter , still not sure of their future. Cracks appearing in team and cohesion of club and coach. Despite the murmurrings of Vlad and Boy Bobbin there may not always be ten teams in Melbourne. 9 and 1 in tassie will work for all concerned. Take it as read ..the next team in Melb to falter..that isnt called Melbourne...might start booking a cabin on the Spirit of Tasmania ;)

After their shellacking in the finals last year, they had to rejig the line up to improve.

Now Harvey is injured, Wells and others out of form and their experiment of running Firrito and Harding in the midfield after good seasons in defence has hit a wall and left their backline exposed.

You are right about the off field issues many involving the Coach whose use by date seems to be coming up.

I have said all along that North were the first club in the fire even when every poster was doom and gloom at MFC. We are not out of trouble yet by a long way. North were always that step further toward the cliff than us.

If they were keen on survival on their own terms, the North Board should have gone to the GC and taken the money. They chose not to and they will face the consequences.

I would hate to see North leave the comp. Having said that they ( Roos ) rolled the dice and thought they had good numbers appear. It has come to ..well, not a lot. I agree we are far from being in smug psotion. We have much to do to consolidate the good work of many and the trust given. But unlike the Roos the signs are good for Melbourne, granted signs alone dont a given make but if our signs are good, then other than a biased Kanga youd have to think the signs coming from Arden street arent too flash. ( at present )

Theres something very smelly about this Jackson crap...very smelly indeed <_<

So it's a take over then? :P !!!

Just be nice to all the Kangaroos fans (if you can find one) because when they fold we may have a nice injection of members if we stand by them. Meanwhile behind there back slowly twisting and pushing the knife deep into there spine MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHa

Any merger - even if it is deemed a takeover - wouldn't interest me at all. The heritage/history of the club would be diluted to some extent. How would you incorporate North's history into ours? NO WAY.

We're doing fine at the moment - crawling - but we'll get there !!!

Amen brother.

I'm sure that that scumbag Dwayne Snipe will continue the theme tonight on AW.

Yeah, thanks for reminding me not to listen.

Ditto. I am against a merger on principle. When we win our next flag I want it to be ours.

Merging with any other club dilutes your integrity. And this mob, while they have a miserable four premierships, two of those in the 1970s were virtually purchased with a foreign legion and a bit of monkeying about with the transfer rules which the Roos seemed to know about in advance.

But as well as opposing this on principle I see little practical value in it.

Arden Street is a joke and their list is not much better. The Roos are in need of a serious rebuild. Their best players are for the most part on the verge of retiring. They have a smaller supporter base than us (although still probably a bigger one than Jackson's Port Adelaide).

And we are more advanced than them in terms of off-field restructuring and on-field recruiting.

The only benefit in this for us is the same for any of the other Melbourne clubs: one less competitior for sponsorship. That's it. It's not much to gain for losing part of your identity.

When Brayshaw made a stand against Gold Coast it was always going to be tough. They have my sympathy, but that's all.

As for AW, you really have to doubt them and what they are up to. Man, I hate that station.

This is a joke. The kangas lose a few games and now they are getting kicked inthe teeth

It's hardly because they've lost a few games - North have had issues for years.

One of the major problems for the Roos is that they've had [one of] the greatest players of his time in Carey, they've had success and premierships in the past few decades (70's and 90's), but where's the benefit built on the back of those successes?

Despite our lack of success we have a larger membership base (and far larger if you include all MCC members that support the Dees).

North have also played their ace, turning down the Gold Coast carrot to live or die in Victoria, and the white knights with their promised millions have failed to eventuate. Apart from an artificial spike last year, North's call to arms seems to have done nothing for memberships either.

In contrast, our Debt Demolition campaign injected significant funds into the footy Club. Despite our poor on-field performance over the past few years we've managed to break our membership record year after year.

What I mean is what are they doing dredging up that bonehead Jackson anyway?

Whoever gives a rat's what he thinks? Dumb as dogshite and just as useful.

He did not rate when he had the top job so why is AW bothering to give him air now?

Should he also suggest Adelaide & Port merge?

Adelaiade are falling away on field & Port are broke.

  • REPORT: Fremantle

For this year’s Easter Saturday game at the MCG, Simon Goodwin and his Demons wound the clock back a few years to wipe out the horrible memories of last season’s twin thrashings at the hands of the Dockers. And it was about time! Melbourne’s indomitable skipper Max Gawn put in a mammoth performance in shutting out his immediate opponent Sean Darcy in the ruck and around the ground and was a colossus at the end when the game was there to be won or lost. It was won by 16.11.107 to 14.13.97. There was the battery-charged Easter Bunny in Kysaiah Pickett running anyone wearing purple ragged, whether at midfield stoppages or around the big sticks. He finish with a five goal haul.

  • CASEY: UWS Giants

The Casey Demons took on an undefeated UWS Giants outfit at their own home ground on a beautiful autumn day but found themselves completely out of their depth going down by 53 points against a well-drilled and fair superior combination. Despite having 15 AFL listed players at their disposal - far more than in their earlier matches this season - the Demons were never really in the game and suffered their second defeat in a row after their bright start to the season when they drew with the Kangaroos, beat the Suns and matched the Cats for most of the day on their own dung heap at Corio Bay. The Giants were a different proposition altogether. They had a very slight wind advantage in the opening quarter but were too quick off the mark for the Demons, tearing the game apart by the half way mark of the term when they kicked the first five goals with clean and direct football.
